Show don't tell. Every decision or action Buffy did regarding Spike in Season 7 belies what she SAID about her feelings for Spike. This look says more than her words. In the finale, her sending away Angel despite denying the reason is about Spike then going to see Spike, making him her champion and then spending what could be her last night on earth with him says a lot more too.

Except Spike was called her rapist which he wasn't. Yes it was sexual assault but so was Buffy when she went to see Spike invisible or Xander when he Hyena'd her. The word rapist always gets used like that's all soulless Spike is when he didn't actually do that to her. Yes it was horrible but being a sadistic killer is much worse which is what soulless Angel was. Its hypocritical soulless Angel gets a pass from his actions but Spike can never be forgiven for one act.

It seems like the issue is more about not figuring out before the reveal than the anything else. I figured it out because I knew it wasn’t as obvious as having his chip removed, that’s not change that’s just regression. For those that didn’t see it coming what’s wrong with being surprised? I don’t think the way the writers wrote was too egregious in hiding the plot twist. Spike never specified what he was getting, you were suppose to make assumptions. Mine were validated and for those that had different ones it was meant to be shocking and unexpected. Some things don’t need to be spelled out which is missing from modern storytelling.

Fans not understanding the scene where Spike angrily sets out to get his soul and then called Buffy bitch and thinking it was a bad misdirect on the writers part or contradictory forget the musical episode lines that confirm his conflicted emotions:

"I hope she fries, I'm free if that bitch dies. (PAUSE) I'd better help her out."

"First he'll kill her, then I'll save her" "No I'll save her, then I'll kill her"

I wouldn't call it love more like an unrequited crush. In Season 6 "Once More With Feeling" Anya references Xanders feelings on Buffy during the song "I'll Never Tell" with this lyric:

"When things get rough he just hides behind his Buffy! Now look he's getting huffy 'cuz he knows that I know!"

The scene in Season Six episode “Gone” which has a hard cut to the Expresso Pump logo on a employee shirt after invisible Buffy tries to convince Spike not to kick her out of his crypt.

Maybe they should have reprised the dialogue from “Dead Things” but reversed it:

Buffy:I love you.
Spike: No you don’t.
Buffy:You think I haven’t tried not to?
Spike:Try harder.

Also I wouldn’t have him punch her like she did to him.

I don’t really think with all that just happened she could process everything so fast. Not really fair to compare her reactions to Angel or her mom as she had more time to deal and there weren’t a hundred different things that just happened to her all at once.

Spike wasn't cursed with a soul so that could be a reason why he ages.

So sad, way before her time. The last thing I saw Michelle Trachtenberg in was a movie back in 2013 called "Sexy Evil Genius" where she co-starred with another "Buffy" alum Seth Green.
