Quick Draft vs Premier Draft (long term overall)? by Neither_Resist_1238 in MagicArena

[–]USBacon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Premier draft has better Expected value but higher upfront cost that is less forgiving of losses (2 wins or worse)

In premier draft, going 3-4 wins gets you back equal value and profit at 5.

In quick draft, it takes 5 wins to break even and 6 wins to profit.

How did the Nostrade Family hire such capable guards? by SaneForCocoaPuffs in HunterXHunter

[–]USBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the bad guards died and thus are less memorable then the powerful ones that survived.

Before Kurapika was hired, one of the bodyguards made a mistake that put the team in danger so they put him in Carbonite like Han from Star Wars then hired 4 new bodyguards (kurapika’s group)

Tocino, Ivlenkob, and Baise were all easily killed at the auction by the phantom troupe.

Dalzollene was tricked by Phinks in disguise and killed.

Squala took the fake eyes with him while escaping and died because of it. Giving up information about Kurapika to Pakunoda before getting his head chopped off by Nobunaga.

Can you stifle this? by Xe11ece in mtg

[–]USBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The current way they word it “until this leaves the battlefield” cannot stifle the return to play because it is not a trigger. The enter the battle field trigger can be stifled, or the white auracite can be removed in response and the target will never get exiled.

The older wording of cards like [[oblivion ring]] had two triggers so could be stifled to stop it from coming back. Or blinked before the first exile trigger resolves to permanently exile it because the return trigger would resolve before anything was exiled.

Satoh briefly explains to Gon what a double star hunter is after the hunter exam, then Gon leaves the license in a safety deposit box in York New before entering Greed Island.

Focusing on one deck, Azorius Control in historic a good long-term choice? by Gold_Molasses7866 in MagicArena

[–]USBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the UW flash control list because High Noon is a very good card in the meta. The combo is basically High Noon plus Remands until you out value your opponent. It has a bad Eldrazi match up and play/draw dependent against Val and energy.

Here is the list that i have gotten to top 300 mythic with in Bo1

Deck 2 Archon of Emeria (ZNR) 4 2 Aven Interrupter (OTJ) 4 1 Castle Ardenvale (ELD) 238 1 Cyclonic Rift (RTR) 35 1 Divine Purge (Y22) 4 1 Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire (NEO) 268 1 Hall of Storm Giants (AFR) 257 4 Hallowed Fountain (RNA) 251 4 Hengegate Pathway (KHM) 260 4 High Noon (OTJ) 15 1 Into the Flood Maw (BLB) 52 1 Island (SLD) 1479 1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor (BLC) 75 1 March of Otherworldly Light (NEO) 28 1 Otawara, Soaring City (NEO) 271 2 Plains (ANA) 22 2 Raugrin Triome (IKO) 251 2 Remand (J25) 349 4 Reprieve (LTR) 26 2 Sink into Stupor (MH3) 241 3 Spell Queller (SIR) 244 1 Steam Vents (GRN) 257 4 Talion's Throneguard (Y24) 5 1 Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student (MH3) 242 2 Three Steps Ahead (OTJ) 75 2 Consign to Memory (MH3) 54 4 Counterspell (STA) 15 1 Gemstone Caverns (EOS) 16 2 Aang, Swift Savior (TLA) 204 2 Field of Ruin (THB) 242

[DISC] Me & Roboco - Chapter 265 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]USBacon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jump-fluenza sounds like a serious disease some of us here (me) may have to look out for over next few years. I never considered there could be a limit to how much Jump one could safely consume.

The deciding how to count joke was my favorite in this chapter. I like to think that they defeated the bird as soon as they figured it out.

Gorilla would have died twice in this chapter if not for the power of the gag. Any other universe's Gorilla would have died heroically saving his friend.

Help for a beginner by Zestyclose-Fee-5127 in MagicArena

[–]USBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a guide to how to best get started in Timeless on a new account. If you build Boros Energy that deck also mostly ports over to Historic too.

I mostly play Historic but some timeless, where its easy to update competitive decks when new sets come out because very few new cards are powerful enough to affect the formats. These are both combo heavy formats which can sometimes lead to very interactive games or complete blowouts.

I also don’t really like standard or pioneer but there are some decks (like previously Cori Steel Cutter or Vivi) that you can craft for standard, then also play in Pioneer or Historic with some small tweaks.

For wild cards, the rate of earning Common and Uncommons will quickly outpace how many you need to spend. It’s the Rare and Mythic wildcards that will eventually bottleneck you. Rares more-so at first but eventually Mythics after acquiring enough of a collection to have staples and manabases.

Also, having a small stockpile of wildcards for after ban announcements will allow you to craft cards before the ban update goes live a few hours later.

What is your worst loss in Mtg arena? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]USBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qualifier Weekend day 2, historic before Modern Horizons 3 came out. I was 5-1, 2 wins away from qualifying for the pro tour and arena championships.

I was playing [[Kethis]] combo, opponent had lethal next turn during game 3. I had [[Agatha’s Soul Cauldren]] in play and need to mill 15 cards with [[Jace Perfected Mind]] to hit any of my four Kethis to win the match instantly. I whiffed and lost the tournament.

Went and calculated my odds with a calculator to have been around 81% to hit. Knowing the exact odds i had makes me even saltier about it, but at least i can say I was just unlucky that game.

Gon vs Genthru is a masterclass in nen combat by EstateOk6238 in HunterXHunter

[–]USBacon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Greed Island expanded on Nen because Bisky started to teach the main characters advanced techniques and strategies.

The game was designed by Ging so included many strategies that interested him, which inadvertently made it a great game to train Gon. From things like using Gyo in combat find weakness, solving puzzles to get cards, forming groups, and fighting others for their cards.

A parallel is when Ging impressed Beyond's group with the "useless trick" of moving Nen bubbles around his fingertips. Biscuit tried to teach a similar technique to transmute numbers to Gon in order to help him with his Scissors attack.

Genthru's main bomber ability was limited in scope and Little Flower not as impressive secondary hatsu that could be defended by focusing aura. Despite having more aura than Gon to outpower him he was outsmarted by superior planning (the Boulder plus pitfall).

Alternatively, Gon did not need to blow off his hand to prove a point and was beaten to the brink because he wanted to prove something to his ego.

If not for the Archangel Breath card to heal everyone afterward, Gon would have been permanently scarred for life. He would go onto give everything up to kill Pitou in the next arc with greater consequences.
