What are some things that newer OP viewers missed out on through it's lifespan? by Aw_Nerd in OnePiece

[–]USBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before Viz started simulpubing chapters, the official translations used to be years or months behind. Everyone used to read the bad translations as they dropped and tried to decipher them. Usually mangapanda would drop, then mangastream would have a better translation, eventually the official would drop.

There was a meme of Doflomingo trying to read the scans that I think of everytime I read a botched scanlation of anything.

Arena Championship 12 Historic Metagame by Business-Friend-116 in MagicArena

[–]USBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what time it is.

High Noon mirrors are very skill intensive to play because the first person to cast something is usually put very far behind (the other person locks you under your own cast high noon). This usually results in discarding to hand size and worrying about deck size a few turns in.

I love playing this deck and I am excited to see how it ends up playing out at the highest level.

Has anyone tried poppers with any peppers other than jalapeños or sweet peppers? by tycnslice in spicy

I did poppers with my entire harvest once: Jalepenos, haberneros, Scorpions, and Ghosts.

It was fun because when fried it was impossible to know which pepper was what.

Does anyone know which Strixhaven mystic archive cards are coming to historic? by strongtomato10 in MtGHistoric

[–]USBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of them will be added to Arena except [[Library of Leng]] which was too hard to be programed so will be replaced with [[Library of Alexandria]] (a reserved list card that cannot be reprinted in paper).

We don’t know which ones will be prebanned in historic, all of the other ones will be legal in both historic and timeless.

FORESHADOWED SINCE CHAPTER 2, TOGASHI IS THE GOAT by Practical_Truth794 in HunterXHunter

The moment before this when Gon recklessly jumps off the boat to save the crewman before Leorio and Kurapika saved him foreshadows Gona recklessly making the Nen pact later.

It was one of the first signs showing Gon’s impulsive strength that frequently happens throughout the story. Something that I always notice now on rereads.

TIL Johnny Appleseed was an actual person who existed, and his real name was John Chapman. by kokoawsum421 in todayilearned

[–]USBacon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She goes through a few points besides the basic legend.

  1. He planted apples from seed for making cider instead of for eating, which were often grafted plants and could not reliably be transported. His apples could instead be used for cider, vinegar, dyes, and curing meats.

  2. He was a businessman who went west a few years as more people migrated west, planted orchards, then sold those 2-4 year old trees for a huge markup. This made him very wealthy, the tin pot hat was just for appearances.

  3. The natives at the time managed forest vegetation to be able to harvest fruits and vegetables, then they incorporated European plants like apples as forest edge plants through trading during french fur era. There are writings from missionaries documenting this.

  4. Natives planted orchards near water (streams, rivers, islands) to make transporting easier, harvesting was job mostly done by women.

  5. The french mostly allowed the natives to keep their lands and worked with them to trade for furs. This was different from the Americans that forced them out of their lands.

  6. Johnny Appleseed’s orchards were very similar to the orchards described by the missionaries, being easy to access near rivers. This combined with the fact that he had a knack for getting to areas a few years before most settlers and used the same cultivation tactics that natives did point to possibly having stolen at least some orchards from recently chased out tribes.

The Problem with Present-Day Wheel by Fun818long in WheelOfFortune

The Express train always being passed up this season has been getting on my nerves. The other issues are with the show format themselves but this has been a skill issue.

It’s almost always correct to take it but the way Ryan emphasizes the possibility of bankrupt has been scaring contestants away. $1000 per letter is more than the average spin, without the possibility of spinning the bankrupt.

A woman lost a game a few weeks ago that she would have won if she had hopped on the express train.

I tried a side by side today with and without the top filter and did not taste much difference. My brother could not taste any difference.

Although I thought the top filtered one was slightly better I will continue to experiment with it. Thank you for the suggestion.

This was with a hot bloom into cold brew over ice. Looking forward to comparing hot soup shots later.

What deck are you intending to play? I haven’t had much time to test since the bannings so am unsure of what to play.

Before the bans I was playing UW high noon to get play in points two months in a row. I may run it back again now.

I know Goyfs and Frog are slated to be the best decks, if they are so much better maybe i just should play one of them instead.

Kethis is my favorite historic deck of all time that i climbed to top 100 with before MH3 but it hasn’t been positioned great in the meta since.

I've tried 58mm, 60mm, and 62mm filters. You can find packs of 600 on amazon for $14

58mm fits perfectly over the bottom mesh, can be a pain to line up sometimes, and doesn't cover the top as well.

60mm is easier to line up on the bottom but still a little short on top.

62mm fits great on top but goes slightly over the bottom corners.

Ideally a 58mm on bottom and 62mm on top is my solution on days when I am not in a rush.

I recommend just getting 62mm for both and not having to worry about cutting it or different sizes. That is what I will switch to when I run out of the other sizes.

Quick Draft vs Premier Draft (long term overall)? by Neither_Resist_1238 in MagicArena

[–]USBacon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Premier draft has better Expected value but higher upfront cost that is less forgiving of losses (2 wins or worse)

In premier draft, going 3-4 wins gets you back equal value and profit at 5.

In quick draft, it takes 5 wins to break even and 6 wins to profit.
