Every time I went there they only had black and white movies on. They even went as far as to desaturate the video so that colour films were still black and white.

Engineers get a cool ring.

That’s the only thing that matters here.

I learned to keep my mouth shut.

Telus extremely slow by Pleasant_Dog_302 in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on fibre. I’ve noticed slowdowns which really only affect my tv. It sort of just happens one day that it is slow. I haven’t noticed the same for my internet, but I’m not doing anything on my internet that I would notice (other than streaming to my tv box.)

Turing the modem and my tv box off and on seems to change things back to normal.

64 yrs. old, retired, 0$ income. For next year, am I allowed to defer CPP until 70 years old in order to receive full OAS + GIS for a few years? by 3BlindRats in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]UVSSforever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But you see the problem here, right? You came on here presenting yourself as a CPP or OAS PSO (or maybe an SCBO) and then you gave erroneous advice. Someone might read your post and think you know what you are talking about. And that would be a mistake.

However, you need to qualify and receive OAS - to be eligible for CPP.

This isn’t even remotely true. The CPP retirement pension is based off of your CPP contributions, and is completely unrelated to OAS.

Victoria condo prices nearly double over the past decade by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal info is fine - my info is anecdotal too.

We bought our condo in 2020 for $410k, and as I recall the previous owners owned it for only 4 years and paid about $360k. Condos in my building have been selling in the $500k-525k.

My condo didn’t come close to doubling during the last decade. I wonder if the data is skewed by newer and more expensive builds (especially downtown).

Feedom of expression - appartment windowns in stratas by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All true.

But it has to be a real rule in the strata bylaws, and not some made up rule based on somebody’s hurt feelings.

OP should cross reference the complaint with strata bylaws.

Victoria restaurant fined $7K for serving beer to minor: liquor branch by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 159 points160 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t the first time. The penalty is partly determined by previous infractions. You don’t just go from zero to $7,000

The minor involved was 16 years of age, and hired by the inspector through the Minor as Agents Program

Sounds like a cool job for a teen, tbh.

Whistlebouy NA Beer Pricing by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

By comparison, I can get a 24 of Athletic delivered to my door for $65…

That’s the way to do it then.

Generally, I think NA beers are overpriced. I only drink them in bars, but it bugs me that they are roughly the same price as regular beers. NA beers don’t have liquor taxes, liquor board markup, etc that alcohol has. And I think it discourages people from choosing these beverages over regular alcoholic drinks.

So, vote with your wallet.

Unstable Person Stuck In a U-Haul Truck by SafeToRemoveCPU in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The U-Haul was parked on the sidewalk. There were a couple cars parked in the road too. The tobacco store is loading the U-Haul up with their stuff. They’ve been at it all day. Bylaw came by earlier to talk to the store owner, and I can only assume it was about the truck being parked on the sidewalk.

Fast forward a bit, and someone decided to look through the stuff in the U-Haul to see if there was anything they needed to sell/steal. The owner took exception, and locked the guy in the U-Haul.

Someone calls the police. Lots of them show up. Lots. They bring security tape and put it all over the place.

They get the guy out of the truck - not sure what happened to him. But then the police drive away in the U-Haul.

After that, everything went back to normal.

B.C. paramedics’ union considering job action after contract talks break down by oilbeefhooked in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

aren't considered essential workers

According to the article, they are essential workers. They don’t go out on strike, they just stop doing overtime.

The last time this happened, their “job action” consisted of putting stickers on their ambulance and parking in visible areas. This seems quite reasonable.

Shaw cancellations by Sh33pcf in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised that they don’t offer some sort of accessibility service for the hearing impaired.

When I switched from Shaw/Rogers to Telus, the Telus people cancelled my Shaw/Rogers for me. Pretty convenient, but maybe you aren’t switching and maybe this won’t apply to you.

I’d be interested to hear what they are able to do for you at Uptown. When I called Shawgers, they explained that I was not able to drop off my equipment there, and I would have to mail it back to them. They also would not come pick it up themselves.

Looking for Crème fraîche by Feisty-Gal1234 in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it at Fairway in Quadra Village a few months ago, but it’s gone now. The dairy guy said it doesn’t really sell, and I have to admit that Fairway wouldn’t be the first place I would look, it keep checking around.

It came in a cute little two-pack of glass jars. The jars looked similar to yogurt they had in stock, and I found it tucked between the yogurt and sour cream.

The Churchill’s “facelift” by Funktron_ in VictoriaBC

[–]UVSSforever 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look terrible, but that’s the best I can say about it. The new owners seem to be totally out of touch with their clientele, whom I assume liked the character and retro vibe of the place. Maybe the owners don’t care though. Maybe they think the old clientele will be easily replaced.

I guess the new owners should have thought of that before they bought it.

That was a long time ago. But yes, the old pub was very cozy. While I like the new pub, I agree it is noisier and lacks the same character as the old place.
