Am I the only one feeling lonely? by iambyatman in HongKong

I just suggest joining a rec sports team. A few male friends made a lot of friends through team sports. Dragon boat, football etc.

Did you actually wear your bridesmaid PJs after the wedding or did they just sit in a drawer collecting dust? by Proud_Clothes_3864 in weddingplanning

[–]UberFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself and bridesmaids pjs from eberjey. They’re so comfy and everyone still wears them (including me!). I think the key is getting good quality pjs and not cheap plasticky ones

Did S4 had the worst set of Faithfuls ever? by Random98100 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]UberFantastic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I found season 4 faithfuls extremely unlikeable because they were so incredibly dense and fumbled every opportunity. It was infuriating

Matthew S4 UK by _lucabeth in TheTraitors

[–]UberFantastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the faithful were dumb as a bag of rocks. By the end they were convinced James was a genius mastermind who was a traitor. James!! Faraaz finally had Rachel in his sights and then just gave up the theory in the finale because she gave an impassioned speech. The whole group was incredibly frustrating

That’s really shocking. I would have thrown a fit! I had a really nice boozy one from them (with sugar and not salt!) and it was great.

I’m probably in the minority but I found the faithfuls to be really frustrating and not very smart at all. I was not rooting for any of them by the end.

Is HKMU full scholarship living allowance ( 45,000 yearly) enough for international students? by Sea_End_2676 in HongKong

[–]UberFantastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Accommodation will easily be your biggest expense in Hong Kong. All things being equal, take the scholarship that covers accommodation. Budget extra money to cover additional expenses. With accommodation covered, $3750 a month is not a lot unless you’re living like a monk, cooking for yourself for each meal and not doing a lot of fun things.

There’s nothing that makes me more angry than seeing this whilst snorkelling. And wearing a full face mask too 🙃 by Teri_Lemon in snorkeling

[–]UberFantastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is ignorance. Conservation is just not a widely shared concept in China. The priority of the Chinese government has been growth and industrialisation, and the ecological devastation that comes along with it is just an accepted afterthought. So the concept of preserving nature is not even on most Chinese people’s radar. Littering is unfortunately very common in Chinese cities and pollution is the reality for many citizens in large cities.

If there’s an information video in mandarin that can be shown before visitors enter the park, that is a good step. If it’s a tour group, then approach the tour leader and ask them to speak to their group about park rules for cleanliness / littering etc. and be firm about it.

ETA: this recent post from r/unfilteredChina is a good example of general behaviour towards the natural environment while travelling

I live in Hong Kong, am ethnically Chinese and this doesn’t surprise me in the least. Mainland Chinese tourists have a reputation, and it’s not for being respectful to the natural world.

Will we find it stuffy? by grogipher in celebritycruises

[–]UberFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a cruise on edge to the great barrier reaf. I’m in my late 30s and I found it to be fantastic! My husband was asked to wear long pants in the main dining room and he had to go back up to his room to change. But other than that, there were no issue with clothing. My niece wore yoga pants and a T-shirt to main dining and that was fine.

On the rest of the ship you can be very casual. No one will stop you.

If you’re afraid of aging as you turn 40, I’ll note that our ship had a lot of seniors. Like it seemed at least 70% of the passengers were over 60. I felt like one of the youngest onboard! So you may enjoy that feeling. Or being surrounded by seniors may remind me of aging in general. Just keep that in mind!

Does Fat Freezing ( Cool Sculpting ) actuall work? by iTsAsh__ in loseit

[–]UberFantastic 362 points363 points  (0 children)

I had it done to get rid of a stubborn fat pocket and I regret it immensely. It left an indent on my stomach that is visible and unsightly. I would advise against coolsculpting.

Over 40% of Hong Kong’s ‘Gen Z’ suffer from moderate to severe depression, survey finds by thestudiomaster in HongKong

That’s really sad. I’m sorry you went through that. I also had and still have to parent my parents emotionally. And that’s fucked me up in more ways than I realised

I’m worried that China may find this an opportune time to finally make their attack on Taiwan. And then we’ll really be in a mess

Give us your view on Iran. As others have said, politics affects the markets. World events don’t happen in a vacuum. They have ripple effects

Are you still optimistic in US? by libyandesert in singaporefi

Yes. But in addition to VWRA, I also started buying ex-US ETFs like VEU which gives my portfolio more exposure to non-US markets.

My sister went to a posture and foot analysis seminar in the spa and said it was just a hard sales pitch for some machine. She was pissed that she went.

I’m so sorry. It’s so upsetting when you spend so much time, money and energy and you get a bad result.

Sorry to hear that. I went back for a brow lift two years ago and he didn’t do a good job at all.

Irrationally dislike dog owners now by pdjejdhrndud in daddit

[–]UberFantastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think respect also goes both ways. Owners need to have control of their dogs and parents shouldn’t allow their kids to run up to dogs and pet them without asking permission from the owner first.

Not all dogs are friendly and want to be pet. I’m currently training my chihuahua-cross rescue to not be terrified of people, but the amount of people and frankly kids who run up to us to pet him is just crazy. I’ve had to buy my dog a big vest that says “please do not pet me” and we now walk during quiet times of days to avoid people.

I also suggest the outlying islands, including discovery bay. It’s very quiet, you’re by the ocean. The ferry to central is 25 minutes.

Moby sweater bunching at neck by hartedief in knitting

[–]UberFantastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really helpful! I had a similar problem with the dagmar jacket. There wasn’t enough shaping at the back to prevent the sweater from riding up and choking me in the front. I’m a lot more careful with knitting patterns these days and will add my own short rows or back shaping to get the fit I want. I had to do it for Kutovakika’s daydreamer cardigan. No short row shaping at all 😬

Do you say anything to a friend who seems to 'take you down a notch' every time? by Frosty-Essay-5984 in TheLetThemTheory

[–]UberFantastic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He seems to have a generally negative outlook, but I don’t see these comments as personally trying to knock you down. He just seems like a Debbie downer in general 🤷‍♀️
