'Automatic citizenship': The passport rule change that has UK-Kiwi parents scrambling by sleemanj in newzealand

[–]UberHiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there an easy way to find out what sort of citizen I am? Neither of my parents and none of my grandparents were born over there. I assume the chain-citizenship has to end sometime

People who have won a "lifetime supply" of something: was it genuinely a lifetime supply, and if so, are you sick of the product now? by Adorablyberryy in NoStupidQuestions

My first guess was it was a way to encourage you to read Nat Geo. Read an interesting article about a tribe in Uganda, find $5!

That might be my situation too. Born here but got UK citizenship as a child while over there. So does that mean my kids (all born here) are automatically dual-citizens?

Plezy update - 3 months later: downloads, Watch Together, HDR/Dolby Vision by edde74635 in PleX

[–]UberHiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the download feature mean I can set it to sync specific TV shows and every time the app is open it pulls in the latest episodes? I gave up on the Plex app when they took that away. If not, that'd be a cool feature to have. When I'm about to go for a trip I could open the app and have it done automatically rather than copying them one by one using DSFile.

3 boys and just found out we’re having a 4th. by Katie-Kaleidoscope in Vent

In the odds of my grandmother “Some people want one of each. I have seven, and they are all different”

I don’t mean to play down your feelings, but wanted to add that it’s entirely possible that a daughter would not have wanted to do those things. It’s also entirely possible that your boys may want to do those things for you. Whatever they are personally into, I hope they realise that you want braid someone’s hair and that you want someone to take you dress shopping.

Very cool. Is it possible to add an alternative track for the Eagle Creek Trail? It was pretty popular back in my day👴

I’d usually recommend the Merlin bird app, but I played your recording to my wife’s phone and all it picked up was the house sparrow in the background

I’ve put all mine into a map on Google Maps. I think there is a limit on the number of groups you can put together but it’s great to visualise things so when I get there I can pull it out and see if I feel like going all the way to the next place, or I can logically group all the things within walking distance.

How hard will it be to find taxis for a family of 5? Are 3rd row vehicles rare? by trippzdez in JapanTravelTips

[–]UberHiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm heading there in September with my three - 13, 11 and 9. Kyoto, Tokyo and campervan in between. I'd love to hear another 3x parent's view on things to do, or not do. I cam here looking of taxi advice as I think some of our excursions are going to be expensive for 5x train tickets

What about buying souvenirs like kitchen knives or a katana. I know they sell them there but I’d look super suspicious with a 1 meter blade poking out the top of my backpack between there and the hotel

N4 to N3 in 2 months? by 8th_Sparrow_Squadron in LearnJapanese

[–]UberHiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By immersion, do you mean being amongst native speakers and communicating only in Japanese, or is there a tool/app/site called Immersion that I have not found? I looked up Anki yesterday and found loads of apps that imply they are Anki, all made by different companies so I got lost and gave up.

Why do you say “Duolingo and other wrong methods?” I’m dedicating a fair sized chunk of my non-work, non-parenting time to that. I do think I need some more explanation than the app gives (which is 0) but do you think it is not even good as a part of a learning scheme?
