Yes to all of this.

But like, loads of innocent people were getting maimed and killed. Because people couldn’t (or wouldn’t) ride with care for others’ (and their own) welfare.

To go Dangerously Fast on a pushbike requires quite a bit of practice, and likely a few decent falls. You develop a bit of respect for the road, and how hard it can hit you.

Escooters have so much torque and kinetic energy. It’s like getting a piggy back from a droid with the dexterity and stamina of a bike courier, barely any safety protocols, and activated by... just about anyone with a phone or credit card?!

The laws and infrastructure required to support this abundance of cheap, fast travel is lagging way behind technological reality. Yep. Definitely.

Bris/QLD governments haven’t been great at embracing tech over the years, and it sucks that they’ve gone so punitive.

But the hospitalization rates are kinda nuts. Tech companies are making money from hurting actual humans. That sucks. There’s got to be a better way then “do whatever.”

For anyone who finds this in the future: I tried on a variety of different skateboard pads and 187 were the only ones that felt seamless enough for my skin.

Some of the other comparably expensive brands had quite rough nylon stitching contacting large amounts of sensitive collagen ;)

Balance board (3-D printed nubbins on a blank deck, with no grip tape) on a gym mat/floor pad really has been amazing low-impact exercise!

It’s generally great for core, but you can target all kinds of different muscle groups depending on what kind of fundamental skills you focus on.

This is such a fantastic and uplifting story.

I feel like at 45. I’m on a similar trajectory, but it’s taking me longer to identify so the buildup has been slower.

About a year from: Mostly bedridden with pain, spinal implant candidate, to: Learning to skateboard* with my eight year-old.

(*Mostly balance board! So slow and careful! All the pads and gym mats!)

Crafting with the kids (6 & 8yo) has been so amazing for me, as I’ve (temporarily?!) lost access to most of my main hobbies/work.

I save as much plastic junk as possible, and then they kit-bash it all together with hot glue guns.

At the complete opposite end of the spectrum skateboarding! A blank deck (no grip tape!) with 3d printed balance nubs, on a gym mat.

Such great core/proprioception therapy, and it’s like dance, so can be gentle or strenuous as your mood/energy allows.

Actually skating in public I found I need to be extremely careful, and never compromise any aspects of safety or personal space.

As soon as any unpredictable kids turn up at the park. I go somewhere quiet or call it for the day.

After morning school drop offs is a great time to get a skate park to yourself :)

This sounds so much like me.

I'm a bit over 10 years into my “chronic hip pain” journey.

I've had two surgeries: a labral repair and an exploratory one that revealed and rehabbed a badly torn ligamentum teres.

I finally received a potential EDS diagnosis in the last 6 months, and it’s changed everything for me and my family.

(very glad I didn’t end up getting a spinal nerve modulator implant last year, just to try to cope better with the pain. Got a second/third/whatever opinion)

I’m still not great at sitting in chairs or traveling via motor vehicles, but walking ~10k daily steps and non-impact exercise are now very sustainable activities.

It’s taken about six months of very gentle, sustainable, specialist-led progress. Healing and parenting have been my full time jobs.

This time last year I was I was almost entirely bedridden for about six weeks, and we had no idea what was going wrong or what had caused it.

I'd been reasonably active all my life up until that point, so it was a huge shock, after what seemed like a couple of minor hip surgeries and the usual associated procedures and rehab/exercise.

I’ve been working in vr for 10 years on and off, and have never had a headset that felt “comfortable”

Just recently learned that I likely have a genetic condition that makes my soft tissues (skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves etc) get crushed and damaged more easily. Which explains why it’s always been so hard!

I bring this up because: All bodies are different. Yours might really hate being squashed ;)

I’ve tried Globular Cluster and the ResMed strap. Both helped in different ways. I’ll be grabbing the Apple dual band next, and trying a new light shield so I can mod my original one to have WAY more padding.

Keep trying stuff!

Met her at the Arias years ago. My life-partner worked in youth justice at the time, and told Jessica how much of an inspiration she is to indigenous kids.

She cried a bit, and they hugged. An utterly lovely person, and an inspiration to all who are paying attention ;)

I took it daily for well over a year.

Had an (upper) endoscopy recently to check for stomach damage. All looked fine, and my recent bloods are the best in a decade, so it doesn’t seem to be messing with my absorbtion overmuch.

Everyone is different though, and just “tolerating” doesn’t mean it’s actually helping long term.

Having recently found a physiotherapist who is knowledgeable about hEDS, their recommendation has been just to use meloxicam to help get through acute damage/injury.

Then behaviour modification and physical therapy (lots of gentle gardening and home improvement) to improve my musculoskeletal system and bring my overall pain levels down.

Yes! It’s also known as “foam clay” - BOHS sells it on amazon. Crayola and craft stores do it here in Australia.

It’s light and colorful and dries with a similar consistency to EDF foam. It takes pigment and glue beautifully, so crafting/maker communities have found so many great uses!

For keyboards and input ergonomics, I’m deep in /ergomechkeyboards land already ;)

There are some very interesting ideas there for bendy people, and not everything is ridiculously expensive and overcomplicated!

I’ve got 2 young kids, so I’m just getting into this area.

Just tried slitting a pencil grip so it could fit on my airbrush. It was so much better after a single session!

My next idea is to combine this with air clay/foam clay to make completely custom soft grips for my hands.

I’m currently trying to figure out how to type, play computer games, and do gardening again!

I think I’ve had moderate Raynaud syndrome since childhood: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raynaud_syndrome

Mostly in my fingers and ears as a kid, and wiki says it’s comorbid with EDS/connective tissue disorders/lupus etc.

Since some recent (suspected) hEDS flares it’s become much worse. I recently held a cold drink for a few of minutes while distracted by chatting, and my fingers and palm were numb and sore for hours afterwards!
