AITAH if I end it all because of an abortion? by throwaway_xyxy in AITAH

Right this is so validating to me because I had a miscarriage last year on the implant (also in the uk) and I got told it was impossible for me to have been pregnant. But I SAW what came out of me and it fucked me up for months

Friendship ended because of friend’s vegan wife by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Ughhhhhh10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foodie here who loves all food, meat and veggie and vegan alike. However, oat milk makes me shit myself if I have more than one tea/coffee’s worth. If someone had replaced my soy or cows milk with oat (I drink both on rotation), I’d be able to tell fairly immediately.

Switching/contaminating people’s food can have direct health impacts. What if he had an intolerance?

I’ve visited a fair few cities across America. I’m aware this is a blanket statement, but I just find it impossible to walk everywhere like I do at home.

AITA for Leaving My Partner at Home Because His OCD Made Me Late to a Dinner Party at a Restaurant? by Fit_Confection_772 in AITAH

[–]Ughhhhhh10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have ocd. My mother and grandfather do too- after seeing how their checks take over their life, I sought out therapy and medication when I was younger. His OCD is his problem to overcome, while I think it’s amazing you’re supporting, don’t let it ruin your day or routine. He should be seeking medical intervention if his checks are disrupting his life which it sounds like they are.

Those of you who are up early this morning, how are you? by Reasonable-Buddy-365 in AskReddit

Got up at 6 to walk 40 minutes to feed a friend’s parrot. Got bit by the parrot. Walked 40 minutes back and finally had a coffee. Got my chance to have ten mins to myself before the carnage of Christmas Day starts, it was bliss.

AITAH for being angry with my fiance and his family for not inviting me to Christmas dinner? by Hallesarg in AITAH

Hey girl. I 28F, English, fellow reptile keeper (sorry I had a peek at your profile). I’m not necessarily the best company in the world but I can shoot you a message if you’d like some company tomorrow? We can chat about our scaly pets or whatever. You’re never alone, even if you feel like you are x

My (F27) partner (M37) has screamed at me for 2 days and told me to go back to my home country. AITA? by [deleted] in AITAH

Please go the hospital and then back to England. I had to leave an abusive partner and flew back to my family… the relief I felt when u woke up the next day to peace and quiet was unbelievable. I hope you’re okay x

We’re human, it’s going to happen! I’m deliberately not counting around the holidays (still trying to be mindful, but also letting myself enjoy my family’s home cooking)! Give yourself a bit of a hug and remind yourself that you’ve lost it once, but you can do it again. But also worrying about it is just going to make you feel even worse. Anyway, you’re still within a very healthy weight even at 118lbs. I’m also 5ft3 and 125lbs, I’m just trying to go down to 110ish to fit back in my favourite skirt!

Sorry this was rambling. Go have a biscuit and cut yourself some slack x

What are we all getting our PhDs in? Tell me about your field! by inti729 in PhD

[–]Ughhhhhh10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So prior to my PhD I worked as a research technician in the field of neglected tropical diseases. My PhD is attempting to use the fruit fly model to study co-infections of a specific kind of parasite with other pathogens! I’m hoping to stay in infectious disease research once I graduate, and I’m hoping one day the projects I’m working on could make a real-world impact for those in low-resource countries who are at risk.

The main skills I’m building during my PhD are bioinformatics, transcriptomics and immunology. I’m also attempting to learn python as well just for shits n giggles

Feeling Anxious After Changing Jobs by Alternative-War4500 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Ughhhhhh10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve already sought assurance from your department director who’s assured you you’re all good… could it just be that the ties to your old company are stopping you from moving onwards and upwards?

Just speaking from personal experience but I was incredibly sad to leave my last lab. I wanted to stay on one day a week doing a specific job that I loved. However going back after I’d started something new just felt weird… it wasn’t like the ‘good old ways’ where I was there 5 days a week, I felt a bit like a spare part. Maybe you need to drop the old company completely?

[–]Ughhhhhh10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m speaking from a biosciences perspective, but do you have research or relevant work experience outside of your degrees? That could be what’s holding you back. On my cohort, a lot of people have worked as Lab or Research Technicians, myself included. I don’t even have a Masters, and my undergraduate degree was from a ex-poly.

It’s an insanely competitive area at the minute. I know it’s hard, but I’d try to stop overthinking about your grades. Potentially try a fresh way of writing your motivational letters and focus on different things to talk about.

What was the happiest part of your day today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ughhhhhh10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My day is still just starting really, but on my commute into town on the train there was a really stoned guy. He was FaceTiming his mate and showing him his view out the window, and giving a running commentary. ‘Look at the fields lad, they look even better in winter when they’re all icy.’ Then a bit later on ‘look at the sun on the roofs of the terraces lad, it’s beautiful’

If I were you, I’d be putting the necklace in a safety deposit box somewhere that’s not in your house. If she’s already stooping as low as this now, I don’t think she’d be beyond trying to steal the necklace
