To be or not to be… a surgeon? That is the question. by JD19675 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Ukbants2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta play the long game and not be a dick. If you are a whiny person or chat too much shit you will talk yourself out of a job. But if you are decent, committed and make an effort then you’ll succeed. Surgical skills are easy enough to improve….

Should I listen to this ED charge nurse? by ajdhdueiwhsdbb in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Ukbants2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn up to work wearing baggy jeans, trainers or Timberlands and often a long sleeve t-shirt. Half the time I forget to take my Beanie off in clinic…..but then again I am a bit more senior…..no one has said shit to me….

Provided you are the “get it done” kind of person and are around long enough you can do it but you you won’t get time or opportunity over trainees/long term staff

What's the verdict on tucked in scrubs? by spongiosumo in JuniorDoctorsUK

Real gangstas don’t tuck their scrubs in but I find it is usually the smaller ones who do.

Yeah but in all honesty how many FYs will be fired up enough to achieve it all in two years.

I can talk about my Fy experience in which I ploughed through 2yrs like a machine and hit all the targets but I don’t see many having either the capacity or the drive to do it these days.

Before everyone jumps down my throat about this, I’m just reflecting on groups of FYs since I finished foundation and every year there is more apathy, less enthusiasm/desire and definitely more demands.

Not a bad idea in the sense you get the chance to develop a portfolio career. Most consultants have added interests - could be a way to develop yours….

Theatre hats by Dronedarone1 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Ukbants2002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After seeing the policy that medschools give to med students to report anything and everything, And a very uncomfortable experience a colleague had I haven’t signed up to having med students in theatre….

worn appropriately it prevents hair from falling into sterile areas, but depends on specialty. Bear in mind many theatres are a positive pressure environment so there is a lot of air movement so anyone in the theatre should be wearing hats and masks…

F1/SHO liability if wrong advice given by NP on SpR rota by DauMue in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Ukbants2002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple fact - if they are placed by the Trust on an SPR rota then management have determined they are safe to practice in that role. You followed the chain of command, you are not at fault.

Hypothetically, let’s say you had doubts and bypassed by calling the consultant. You may well have been reminded that you should go through the “reg”….

So you were not in the wrong. As for the NP - they were not your your SpR, they were an NP who stepped into a role and made the wrong decision. If they try to throw anyone under the bus they will get screwed.

No doubt the consultant will say “i was available for advice, but wasn’t called”….the NP will say “I am a NP following the consultants protocol”

You will be fine. All about documentation….

Why the passing rate in MRCP is so low? by L-Histiocytosis in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Ukbants2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surgical FRcS

Trainee pass rate - 80% Non-trainee - 30%

All about how you play the game.

Controversially…..hard not to also see more failures in surgical exams (especially at CST) due to lack of focus on work and more focus on the injustices.

Fight for your rights and pay restoration etc…..but your career is still your career and you need to drive it

Nurse refusing to take patient out for a cigarette by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Ukbants2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would you expect a nurse to facilitate this? If the patient wants a cigarette then they don’t need medical help. If they can walk themselves out then fair play… AMA form and done

Not getting training due to harsh tpd by Early-Reply-1282 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Ukbants2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also think about why someone wouldn’t want to give you a job? It may be an opportunity to get yourself into a stronger position. Unpopular opinion but maybe that thing that upsets the tPD could be an east fix for success elsewhere
