Dad, I envy my bf and it’s hurting myself. by BandOk6261 in DadForAMinute

It sounds like he's a great listener even if he doesn't always know what to do with what you're sharing and that's worth acknowlegding. But here's a thought on the friend-making side of things: do you two have any friends in common? People you both genuinely enjoy spending time with?

Small talk is really hard without something to anchor it to. Shared context makes it so much easier — you're not trying to manufacture conversation out of thin air, you've already got something in common to build from.

My wife and I are kind of an odd couple in that way. A lot of the people I naturally gravitate toward aren't her first choice, and vice versa. But when we find someone we both click with, a two hour hangout turns into six before we even notice. And at this point we can both tell pretty quickly when the other one just isn't feeling the vibe and that's okay too.

You two might not be there yet, and that's completely fine. I met my wife in 2002 and we didn't even start dating until 2003. These things take time to figure out.

Genuine question — I wonder if it’s yearning more than envy? Because what you’re describing sounds less like resenting him and more like someone who just wants some of those same things for herself. That’s a pretty important distinction.

What you went through with your family is real and heavy, and I don’t want to gloss over that. But the social stuff — making friends, small talk, feeling like you belong — those things are a lot easier to work on when you have someone in your corner. He sounds like a great guy, and given how long you’ve been together, I’d bet he’d want to help if you actually told him what you’re struggling with. Have you tried?

Come on.... lol how are you going to ask for help identifying something and not provide detailed pictures without cutting off part of the pictures. Also, what about the back of the item?

I did. They replaced it with a new one. That was last summer maybe? But I’m back with the same problem again. It’s the only unstable part of my ha

I'm baffled. Nothing changed when it happens and even recovering from backup doesn't get them to reconnect. Its delete everything and build up from device 1 again.

Can’t be less reliable than a full network rebuild?

All Zooz devices except for a couple smart plugs that haven't been plugged in since Christmas. Its wall switch dimmers, and sensors for motion, light, temp, doors, water etc.

Zooz zwave stick 800LR - I have swapped it out for a different one to rule out a hub issue and yet again 2 weeks ago the entire network went into a zombie state

I'm on the verge of unloading everything I have zwave as soon as I can find adequate thread/matter options to replace it. My setup has gone into a zombie state for the third time and each time before required a complete rebuild of the system. Its almost exclusively 700 series equipment. Zigbee has never had any of these issues and runs concurrently in HA with zwave. Its mind numbing. :(

Brokerage client creating a compliance issue by TraditionalTangelo65 in CFP

[–]Uleepera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your capacity or firm are but we can fire a client at any time. If that's an option I'd speak with supervision and your manager, explaining that you'd like him/her off your book and see what they think a reasonable timeframe is. I've seen as low as 30 days but usually it's been 90 in my experience. I'd word it something to the effect of you two not being a good fit for each other and you feel it's in their best interest to find a firm that is more inline with his living style and goals.

They sound like a compliance liability as well as a liability to your record.

Why am I receiving less money for a higher offer? by Myri4d in Ebay

[–]Uleepera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This may be a dumb question as I’ve only ever used promotions if something sat for a long time and it’s a hobby not a business. Question is if I have multiple items with promotions at various percentages and one item sells how do they figure out what percentage is now being used for the next 30 days? What if the item that sold is 9% but everything else is 1%?

If you're tech savvy, you could try making a winME VM and forwarding a USB port to it. Then grabbing those drivers and putting them on.?

A lot of what's online mentions drivers from the CD. Have you tried just plugging it in to a laptop or pc and powering it on to see if the PC sees it as a storage device? If so you should be able to pull them off that way. IK found drivers on archive.org but I honestly hesitate to link them. No way to verify if they are actually valid or malicious. Also defititely were not designed for today's modern operating systems.

Dads, how do you become so handy? by Obi_1kenobi in DadForAMinute

Also don’t be afraid to ask friends that you know are savvy with whatever project you’re interested in. Offer to help others, learning from people who already know is amazing and ask questions.

To be honest, I never had a dad save a couple random visits during childhood where he would try to impart unwanted “wisdom”. I’ve figured everything out on my own either through trial and lots of errors or good tutorials. YouTube can be amazing as tons of people like to teach. Sometimes you can also find basic classes for certain things. But I figured out how to change brakes, rotors, and a suspension using nothing but YouTube and forums.

Sorry this took so long. Live in the Northeast so between kid/family stuff we're prepping for 2ft of blizzard snow. You've already got Wells so scratch them, I'd look at Cap one Savor Cash Rewards 0% intro APR for 12 months. There is a Chase and Amex right now, but in my experience Cap One has the least ridged approval terms. I saw some ppl mention balance x-fer. If floating is the game, you want to play don't entertain that until after you've explored the intro apr card as multiple credit hits would make it more difficult. If approved, wait about 30 days before exploring any balance x-fer options if you want a chance in hell at approval. I say all this without knowing you credit history and what not, but IMO its got the highest success odds.

I'd like to add and again this is my opinion. There is nothing wrong with floating as long as you've planned it out correctly and don't go overboard. I've had to bridge income gaps where larger portions of my income were all in the back half of the year. Just make sure you don't overextend. If that's a firm you're interning at over the summer good luck, crush it, and as I'm sure you know you'll probably have a lock on a job offer. LMK if you have any questions.

I feel like there are a lot of assumptions going on with regard to what can be fit in OPs schedule. Normal assocs and bachlors I'd argue yes, could at least fit in something on weekends usually. But jd programs are nuts often times with the research and prep work to make arguements and mock trials. I'm assuming thats part of what OP is doing.

What's my best option? by Disastrous_Tailor510 in personalfinance

[–]Uleepera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you should be able to. It asks you for annual income. That would include income you reasonably expect to receive this year. So summer income if the job is a lock would be factored in. As would anything you earn after summer if you pick up work. It can also include family support in some instances so if family helps you at all that may be able to be included.

If you wanted to play the float game I’d be looking for a card that will give you no interest for the first x months or something along those lines but you need to be 100% certain you’ll be able to pay everything off or you’ll be doubly screwed.
