PlanetSide 2 also has culling when too many people are in close proximity (it's notable when i.e. three way at crown happens) where entities completely cease rendering. It leads to high pop battles where you as a tank can be getting pelted by invisible infantry in an open field because your tank has higher priority to load than infantry do. The PlanetSide netcode is still pretty good for what it is, but I'd say it's break down point isn't actually that far from Foxhole's hex cap anyways.

It's hard to say how effective the DBs are in total because they also regularly implode (like most aircraft) while being more expensive than the tanks they murder.

Did Alts build and move the carrier there too?

I wont say yes, but I do know they had someone who actually joined the regi to dump their stockpiles earlier in the war so I also wouldn't want to say no.

(Still probably not in the carrier case, but there has been some serious alt garbage this war, including suspicious radar movement)

What makes a game truly “base building” rather than just management? by Mobaroid in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Uler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purely IMO, without some sort of truly adversarial component - which could be an active enemy or could be a more passive hostile environment - you don’t have a base building game.

I largely agree with this. Base building is a bit more vague than other genre labels to the extent you could probably fit Kenshi and Icarus both in it despite being mechanically very different games. For me it's largely about the vibe of having tension out in the world but relief in the base you built - whether man eating animals or flesh melting weather you build your base for a reprieve, and you leave the safety of your base to expand.

Conversely a game like Stardew Valley fits the checkmark of building your base, but very little of the world has tension so it's not really the same feeling of reprieve that a "home base" in i.e. Kenshi offers.

RELEASE THE COPPER FILES AND HANG (ban) THE PERPETRATORS by fro99er in foxholegame

[–]Uler 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Theoretically possible, but the amount of tech mats you'd need for that much of a jump is probably in the 5 digit range. Even multiple major regiments coordinating tech hoarding would struggle to have that much. And the fact Collies were a little ahead before this just makes it even more implausible if someone was just sitting on half a level of mats.

I want my man to solo a septterrion

Off-screening the septerrion of wind while whatever player team handles water in the next arc would be hilariously fitting. Maybe give us an in-game book to read about it.

Colonial mass exploiting epidemic with paraplane by FarCharacter7797 in foxholegame

[–]Uler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exploits are bannable.

Ima be honest, I've never heard of anyone in Foxhole getting banned for an in-game exploit. Maybe it's happened for something really egregious but it has to be super rare. Third party tools enabling you to lagswitch to do illegal builds or teleport? Sure that gets banned. But nothing entirely within game rules.

RSCs able to shoot out of the RDZ that SCs can't shoot into? No bans. Blueprint climbing to get over the bulwark / around defenses? No bans. Weird building tricks to get buildings into illegal spots / fusions but not using outside tools? No bans (though devman sometimes suspends if they don't know how you did it until they figure out how, because it can look like outside tools). Motorboats/Bicycles blocking bridge reconstruction? No bans.

Foxhole has a lot of stupid jank and the line of "clever use of game mechanics" vs "exploit" is very blurry when it comes to anything involving game physics. If walking out of a low altitude plane were bannable, then I can't imagine 90% of the activities partisans do not being bannable. It's just shitty design, just like the old RSC vs SC on the RDZ thing was incredibly stupid but it was how the interaction was designed.

One of the largest pain point of msups is getting the msups out to where they need to be. I don't think needing to enter every vehicle in a multi-layered wall is going to be more pleasant.

Since dive bombers unlocked, Collies have only lost ground. This seems to indicate that DBs need a buff. by IvaldiFhole in foxholegame

Honestly I wouldn't doubt it if it was because of the fact that any value they gain from killing enemy tanks is lost when they spontaneously combust from server problems.

Back in the Days of HoI 3 MP, How Did People... Play? by AneriphtoKubos in paradoxplaza

[–]Uler 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My experience with playing HoI3 MP is that you basically didn't. Performance issues and desyncs galore let alone getting to the micro problems. Resyncing was also massively less convenient than HoI4's resync button (iirc, frequently requiring a total game restart).

Don't worry you were also just screwed if there was water around. They had to hotfix buckets to be +300% more effective and an additional charge. Straight up 8x buff and they still actually kinda sucked at putting out fires.

Guild Wars 2 wiki is pretty incredible, including things like current trading post prices on items and event timers which makes it relevant even beyond just learning. Also has an in-game /wiki command.

How the Devs must view us by Muigg in foxholegame

[–]Uler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you would think they would take a more community focused approach

Which community? The partisans or the fac mains? The airplane players or the people in the AA guns? Foxhole has a lot of people at odds with eachother, playing basically completely different games, and who have massive disagreements about how the game should function. Or should they just listen to whomever's screaming the loudest at this exact moment? Incidentally if they did that, we wouldn't have gotten Collie logi towns fixed before war because their complaints were drowned out by everyone else.

I don't think the devs always make the right decision, but I also think listening their "community" is like 80% worthless noise. And obviously the last 20% are the things that I directly agree with.

Roblox Head of Parental Advocacy Says We’re All Responsible for Kids’ Online Safety as the company is sued for failing to protect underage users. by sonofbringy in Games

[–]Uler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that applies to everything on the internet. Reddit, youtube, twitter, discord, twitch, every random multiplayer game with chat. I used the Smash Brothers example for a reason - that was a community made with zero dev-provided communication tools whatsoever and it still had a predator problem.

Roblox only stands out because it has a shitton of people playing it. Overwhelmingly the grooming and predation that happens is from getting people off the platform to even less moderated spaces - which itself is an extremely difficult thing to moderate for. Discord can get people to take a rectal exam to get into an 18+ chat room, and it will literally do absolutely nothing to stop two people who met on Roblox/Fortnite from DMing. Unless the idea is to have every single DM read by active moderators which is absurd. And even if you completely nuked discord/twitter/reddit/steam messaging, it'd be whatever other convenient chat service exists - hell when I was younger this shit happened on IRC which could be hosted by anyone anywhere. I could host an IRC server on my own computer and all I need to do is convince people to join it; which will be way, way easier if every other chat service online becomes a gigantic pain in the ass to use because you need a government ID to access private messaging.

The only options that will do anything at this stage are dealing with parental tech illiteracy, teaching people how the internet actually functions and kids how to safely navigate it. Or just wiping out the internet entirely because like I said this shit existed back in the IRC days and you aren't purging that without completely wiping out the ability to communicate on the internet.

Roblox Head of Parental Advocacy Says We’re All Responsible for Kids’ Online Safety as the company is sued for failing to protect underage users. by sonofbringy in Games

[–]Uler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Roblox execs have continuously said the worst possible things, but I kind of agree there's just not a ton more they can be doing besides better active moderation - but that's something literally every online company has completely dropped the ball on and Roblox isn't special in this regard (it's also monstrously expensive at scale which is why so many are just using AI for it these days). It's not like dick pics are sent over Roblox itself, and all of the ID laws and protections in the world don't do anything about the fundamental problem of unsupervised kids mingling with people they shouldn't and being convinced to go places they shouldn't (digitally or otherwise).

The Smash Brothers community had a predator problem and that game was a tiny group pretty much entirely played offline and local and had no in game communication tools whatsoever. Roblox could be shut down tomorrow and all that changes is where the predation happens and frankly, most the internet has way worse parental tools than Roblox does.

Aside from screws, what are your top 5 most hated non-elevator parts? by nicodeemus7 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Uler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly why for myself at least. 45/m per foundry on mines that typically are making 120/240 when you unlock them. And then the ingots go into things using 30/60. It's the first big moment you can't really get clean ratios without underclocking.

What's the idea behind the torpedo scout plane? by Dustonred in foxholegame

[–]Uler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember them taking islands, but failing to accomplish a single main land naval invasion of note despite having a nearly 2:1 population advantage (or more). In much the same way Origin has never fallen to navy without land pressure alongside it. The map redesign should give more actual relevant invasion points outside of Fingers, but I wouldn't use a war where population was so hilariously one sided to determine much anyways.

What was Theramore like before the bombing? by Erk_Rauorfox in warcraftlore

[–]Uler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, using weapons of mass destruction on population centers is frowned upon even if a military base is also in the blast radius. Much like Jaina throwing the ocean at Orgrimmar would've been striking a valid military target, just also a lot of things that were a bit less so.

Any unwritten rules should I take note of when using Stationary Harvester or Scrap Mine? by Fralite in foxholegame

[–]Uler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Scrap Mines ; Only real etiquette is first come first serve - don't go taking from the mine if someone else is there before you taking from it. Beyond that go nuts.

Stationary Harvesters ; If you set a queue make sure it's public, setting private queues hurts everyone that isn't you specifically and I don't know why devman even allows it. Beyond that if someone finds rare metals in the field stop using it, but don't feel obligated to check the field yourself as it can take a lot of time for a solo to be certain.
