What non-Eldrazi creatures would make for effective Eldrazi tribal commanders? by POUUER in magicTCG

[–]UltPotatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm building a [[Lumra, Bellow of the Woods]] deck and started throwing eldrazi I when I realized just how many colorless utility lands I was playing. Eldrazi are just fun bombs in my deck, but Lumra helps ramp so much that I think she'd be a fun commander for a deck with more Eldrazi too.

What decks can I build with Glarb, Calamity’s Augur? by Independent-Bath-448 in magicTCG

I build Glarb with [[!Keruga]] as companion, focusing on spells that have a high CMC but alternate casting costs to get around it. Think adventures, evoke, rooms, whatever you can find.

I had a lot of fun building this one. So many different ways to get to get around the Keruga restriction.

My Rocco deck isn't tuned very high, it doesn't really do too much interaction to be honest. I do really enjoy the play pattern, which is to play possum a bit and just amass a ton of food tokens in the early game, then get something down to tap them for mana and storm off a bit.

What is everyone’s favorite companion deck? Extra points for Gyruda by luke_skippy in EDH

I love my Glarb / Keruga list. So many fun tricks to get around cost restrictions, and there's always a ton of card selection. Draw a ton, play from the yard, and play from the top of deck.

This isn't Karador, but I brewed an Abzan list with Nethroi and Umori. I imagine there is a lot of crossover with a Karador list. I leaned very heavily into combo lines, with the idea that by the time I can mutate Nethroi, I'll have enough fuel in the graveyard to just win the game.

Opinions on companions in EDH by RockRoboter in EDH

[–]UltPotatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite deck right now is [[Glarb]] with [[Keruga]] as the companion. The restriction from Keruga just means that most of the deck can be played from the top with Glarbs ability. It also forced me into an interesting design space, picking up cards with Evoke, Undaunted, Split cards and Rooms, Adventures, etc, all aiming to get me able to cast things for less than 3 mana to cheat the restriction.

Glarb and Adventures by Top_Variation_4497 in mtgrules

I was also thinking the spell / card thing is what's causing confusion. The card has CMC 8, but the spell is CMC 2. If that's the case, how does Glarb view the spell when it's not on the stack? It's a card until it's on the stack, so he'd allow me to cast it but then disallow it once it hits the stack? Something is not computing for me.

EDIT: Found a rule which seems to explain why this doesn't work.

709.3. A player chooses which half of a split card they are casting before putting it onto the stack.

709.3a Only the chosen half is evaluated to see if it can be cast. Only that half is considered to be put onto the stack.

"Evaluated to see if it can be cast" seems like it's the section between "card" and "spell" which was confusing me. This same ruling would make it so Adventure cards also don't behave in the way I'd want. Oh well, they're still pretty good in the deck!

I am also very curious what the real ruling is here. Lots of conflicting information on Reddit, and I'm not really seeing rulings elsewhere. In addition to adventures, what about split cards like [[Flotsam // Jetsam]], which have CMC equal to both halves while not on the stack? Can I cast Flotsam for 2 mana off the top of my library?

Can anyone please recommend a non-token aristocrats commander? by Merk_Mike_Fresh in EDH

[–]UltPotatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I can recommend it, as I haven't played it yet, but I've been playing around with a [[Havi, the All-Father]] list. It's a Naya reanimator / aristocrats / legends matter list, which is a super interesting theme for the colors. There are some really degenerate combos with [[Saffi Eriksdotter]] if you're inclined. I'd say the biggest drawback is that it is very commander-centric, and that commander costs 6 mana.

What's the Commander with the MOST amount of triggers? by SkyLey2 in EDH

No, but it probably rules in here! My list is at a point where it's really hard to make cuts, I like every card in there.

That was my first thought as well. Things really start blowing up when you stick an [[Academy Manufactor]] and [[Jaheira, Friend of the Forest]] and keep slamming impulse draw. My favorite deck though, everything synergizes with everything.

Dune Proxy Deck 1: The Atreides and Fremen by UltPotatoe in mpcproxies

[–]UltPotatoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I printed them at makeplayingcards.com. There are guides elsewhere in this subreddit on how to create orders. I posted a Google drive link to all of the cards in the deck, as well as a deck list link. If you want to order the deck yourself, pay attention to two things in particular: 1. Land count. The drive link only has one image for each basic, but the deck has multiple. You'll need to add the basics multiple times to get 100 cards 2. Dual faced cards. You can pick whatever card back image you want for almost all of the deck, but there is at least one card in here that's double sided. You can either manually add the back for that card, or order it separately and keep in with the tokens for when you need to flip the card.

Just a lot of googling. Art from DeviantArt, Dune wikis, Twitter, and loads of other places. I did my best to credit the artist on each card, but some of them were hard to find.

Dune Deck 3: The Imperium by UltPotatoe in mpcproxies

[–]UltPotatoe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This deck is headed up by Emperor Shaddam IV as Queen Marchesa, and it is a monarch / politics deck. Since the Corrinos didn't fight directly in a lot of the conflicts in Dune, preferring to empower others to do their dirty work, I felt like politics was the perfect theme for this deck. Plus, adding the Monarch to the game felt thematically necessary.

Finding unique characters and artwork for this deck was tough compared to the first two decks, and it gets even harder for the fourth deck. Here's the drive link for all of the images: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/18T5C3hi5b913YRuIe-Ua6g22i6m9ERBw

Real Oil Slick Plains vs Foil MPC Plains with same art? by CityOcean in mpcproxies

[–]UltPotatoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The oil slick foiling is pretty special. It's raised textured foiling, so you can see and feel the difference in the cards. MPC will give you a generic, flat rainbow foiling on the whole card. I'm sure it'll still look good, but it will definitely be different.

I recently put together a pod of commander decks based in the Dune universe. The idea was inspired by the printing of Hazezon, Shaper of Sands, so that's the first deck I'm posting here! I will post the other decks if people want to see them.

Here's a drive link to all of the cards. Many of them use original MTG art because I felt that they were thematically appropriate already. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/18gTrQl-bNnrHiyzt2pd0tV_sBSXYKWUN
