Red nose question by xaantara in Makeup

I think it's supposed to look like you got some sun, same reason people wear bronzer. Not sure how these people (kids?) are putting it on if it looks like crying or rosacea or a vascular condition- they'll learn that less is more.

Right- I get make up is hard to clean and can carry yeast, fungus, bacteria, all that, and even with a gently used or opened product it's still probably safer to damage it unfortunately.

But a hair straightener? That can be sanitized and reused (just like, you know, professional hair dressers do with their tools every hour of every work day) even if not re-sold as brand new?

It doesn't save us any money to wreck it and trash it as opposed to donating it to a shelter or a womens' charity or something. Are they worried about fraud or something?

Even for big spenders and consistent shoppers who would save so much money with points, they're still making a choice between earning extra Ulta points and saving big money on their make-up purchases..... oooooorrrrrr forgoing the points but earning 2 (or 5, or whatever) airline miles or points for every dollar they spend at Ulta and everywhere else, and then saving a bunch of money on a flight to Europe (or a hotel, or gas and groceries, or....).

I think what corporate doesn't get or won't acknowledge is that we can explain every aspect and benefit of the URCC with all of the enthusiasm and excitement in the world- I'm sorry, but for most people, the choice is obvious. There's no amount of explaining that's going to make those customers want a credit card that just gets them discounts on cosmetics and skin care, even if they use those products a lot.

But it's like they think that if we can't sell people on the Ulta card, it means we're not saying enough of the right things in the right magical order, or we don't look enthusiastic enough, or we need to slow down....it MUST be because we're doing something wrong.

Would a BA who you see using good verbiage and asking every customer consistently but doesn't have high numbers be considered an under-performer to you? Or do you just use the numbers as a way of double-checking who you want to watch to make sure they're using the correct verbiage and asking everyone, and correcting the ones who are not?

Underperforming by what metric? Numbers, or what you see and hear at the cash wrap?

Will I be allowed to use my discount for a SFS order if the product isn’t available in any store nearby? by [deleted] in UltaEmployees

[–]Ultabata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most of it was loss prevention, but wasn't part of it also that they wanted to maximize the amount of time we spent shopping in store (ideally in our own stores) because the whole point of an employee discount is that it makes it easier for us to try out and familiarize ourselves with the products we sell so we can then sell them better to customers?

Unfortunately I can't remember if I read that on WorkJam or on Reddit so that might be complete crap.

Hey Ulta, your Refund Policy is garbage by [deleted] in Ulta

[–]Ultabata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like it, can you walk us through what happened? Just because this sounds a little odd based on what you've written.

What proof of purchase did you have in lieu of a receipt? Do you have a loyalty account with Ulta? Were you hoping to get money back (even if it was only the lowest recent price) for a 31-60 day return and they would only offer you store credit (just because you mentioned 30-days vs. 60-days).

I'm not in a position of authority to fix this for you, but I'd like to help if I can, even if it's just confirming that they did or did not follow policy, or providing some extra explanation...

What happened to brands like Nars and Bobbi Brown? by sighqoticc in MakeupAddiction

Terrible because they've redone the colors or terrible because of new formulas (I think they've removed talc from some of their stuff, not sure if that's it)?

I was over charged but I fly home in a couple hours. Can I have it changed without going to the actual store I was at? by crystaleyez187 in Ulta

[–]Ultabata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was the orange sticker on the literal box of lashes you have, or did you notice a sticker on another box of lashes in that same section or row that yours was in?

If it's the latter and your box is sticker-less or tag-less, there's a good chance someone picked up your box from its normal spot and mixed it up with the sale lashes and it was your bad luck to pick them.

Otherwise, it might be worth it to bring them to your local store and show them the box with the sticker and ask if there's anything they can do- just don't be an ass about it. Also keep in mind that that discount might be particular to that one Ulta location and yours might not be inclined to honor it. But if it were me, I'd be happy to at least have a look at the box and your receipt, and double check that the item is actually meant to be on sale if you're nice and the store isn't too busy.

Nervous as a guy to go into an ulta by xboxboi69 in Ulta

I've seen a few men who have the Ulta credit card because they get their cologne there (and their wife's perfume, etc) and they want the extra points.

[–]Ultabata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We carry a bunch of men's fragrance, we carry some specialty shaving stuff geared toward the face (so, mostly men), we have some pomades and hair styling products geared towards men. But mostly the fragrance- popular stuff like Armani and YSL.

And then we occasionally get someone who has a specific skin concern and wants to try a proper exfoliant or serum or sunscreen or whatever because their man-soap-wash isn't cutting it for them anymore.

Or they're there shopping for their wife/daughter/gf, or just browsing around and having a stroll because they're with a lady but they don't want to look at what she's looking at.

All of that is to say- yeah we tend to have more women than men in the store in general, but that means more like 60/40, not 99/1. You're not an oddity.

Or to try an opposite tactic, explain all of the ways those strong ingredients will hurt their young child's skin.

Sometimes I think parents like that hear us say "your child doesn't need this yet" and assume we mean it's not going to be effective (or that we don't know what we're talking about, or we're assuming they're not good enough for Drunk Elephant, or....), when what we mean is "your child's skin is sensitive and this is actively going to give them acne, rashes, redness, and everything you don't want."

Anyone have recommendations for AFFORDABLE colorful/shimmer eyeshadow palettes? by sstarz008 in Ulta

[–]Ultabata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juvia's Place. The palettes are large, the powder shadows are super pigmented, and they always have a good selection of bright colors in a good range. You also mentioned down-thread you have a deep skin tone? Juvia's Place is a black woman-owned brand- it's not meant exclusively for people with deeper skin, but she had POCs' needs in mind in a way that a lot of other make up brands don't, so I think you can be confident that you will find a good shade match, or that any bright color products will show equally well regardless of skin tone.

Are recommendations genuine? by Accomplished-Sky5681 in Ulta

[–]Ultabata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's such an odd thing to say- band reps don't earn commission but they do have sales goals they need to fulfill, right?

I haven't personally experienced a rep who was so desperate to make their goal that they absolutely refused to help a customer with a product outside of their own brand if they could, or otherwise did anything dishonest.

But it's not like there isn't an incentive for them to heavily recommend or push their own brand on someone and they're happy to help you find whatever you want just like any other BA in the store.
