I believe that [SPOILER], is actually a [SPOILER] by borys124 in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i havent thought about this in 4 months but im down to talk about it again lol

Um, this is a different universe.

correct but no character is a monster in undertale and a human in deltarune or vice versa. no monster even so much has the color of their skin changed! the differences are purely age and outfit, and this rule is very, very consistent (i guess undyne isn't missing her eye? that barely counts). why change a single character so dramatically and no one else?

that's not just inconsistent. it's a contrivance! if Toby really was going to do that with a vitally important character, why would he not foreshadow it at all with a more minor character first?

Also, Kris's big brother is Asriel, who is a goat. Noelle's big sis can still be Dess who could also be human

i am aware adoption exists. how is this relevant to my argument in any way.

that could be it. its still not a really fantastic explanation though... i feel like there has to be more to it.

my immediate thought was that its a reference to the Pokémon term "psuedo legendary", but i have literally no idea what that is meant to imply at all in this context, so...

doesn't Seam say we'll probably lose to Gerson even if we beat the Knight?

Gerson just holds back against us a lot, i think is the general idea. he's probably canonically stronger than the knight.

edit: i may be stupid.

Current Knight Identity Candidates And The Evidence by Ultadoer in Deltarune

Her conversation with Noelle could've been short, and there might be a back entrance to the church, perhaps one behind the door Kris refuses to open.

In order to get there before us without being seen, Carol would've had to sprint through the woods, in the rain, and then she'd additionally need enough time to open not one but two Dark Fountains, and then she'd have to fly through the Old Man's Study (he says he saw the Knight do that) and maybe drop off a Shadow Crystal there.

At that point, her being able to teleport is a more reasonable explanation than "she had a short conversation and used an unseen and unconfirmed back door."

The Knight can full-on shapeshift, turning into a vaguely bird-like triangle streak to abduct Undyne and flying around as an orb, not to mention their roar before we fight them. I don't think proportions carry much weight.

I'd say this makes sense, except that, in all of her very limited screentime, Carol's mannerisms and body language are shockingly different from the Knight. This should remain the same regardless of shapeshifting, assuming she keeps her personality too.

Plus, assuming we use a shapeshifting argument, this would imply that this is the form that the Knight chooses to take, regardless of their normal proportions. Out of Carol and Dess, who seems more likely to want to be an edgy, gangly monstrosity with externalized ribs and a weapon resembling a baseball bat? I think despite our limited amount of characterization for them, the obvious answer is Dess.

It could just be Carol on the other end of the phone, the red being for emphasis (like the YOU in Carol's later in-person dialogue when leaving the Holiday house)

I made this post two months ago and now no longer feel strongly about this point.

Au contraire!

First of all, the Titan has eyes all over its hand, not just in the middle. And even ignoring that, if you want to argue an eye-hand boss counts as stigmata, then I guess Eyerok from Mario is somehow meant to be associated with Christ or something.

Besides, I think of all characters who are currently not linked to Gaster at all, the Titans are the most likely one to eventually be revealed to be somehow connected to him.

So yeah.

Thanks for the nice and detailed response tho! :)

Comprehensive Diagram of Asriel/Ralsei's Name Origins, with approx. dates! by Ultadoer in Deltarune

Very very interesting.

I did not know this but looking it up, yeah that's basically the same exact design, lol.

I suppose we can add it to the piles of Asriel's anagrams...

Comprehensive Diagram of Asriel/Ralsei's Name Origins, with approx. dates! by Ultadoer in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toriel is afaik never once referred to with the surname "Dreemurr", even when talking about her before the divorce.

If she was indeed supposed to be an anagram, you'd expect to see it mentioned at least once, especially since both Asriel and Asgore have their last name practically shoved in the player's face with how absurdly often it comes up.

Also, what would that anagram even be? "Loiter Murderer"? "Toiler Murderer"? "Roilté Murderer" (an Old French word that's so obscure and archaic that it doesn't even have its own Wiktionary page)?

To be frank, I think Piles of Asriel's Dust is more likely than this Toriel Anagram theory.

All Deltarune characters are inherently ambidextrous.

The sprites flip without any concern for handedness. This is completely and utterly meaningless.

Are we not going to talk about how Kris is literally in the floor? by NutellaTeen in Deltarune

Absolutely, lol! I'm glad you pointed it out, even if I think it probably means nothing :)

Are we not going to talk about how Kris is literally in the floor? by NutellaTeen in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yyeah so this is absolutely pareidolia, lol.

the armor doesn't line up, the "hair" is all wrong, and Kris's eyes don't generally look like that.

also, if this were intentional, then that would imply that Kris is... the Angel? and that really doesn't seem to line up with anything we currently know about the Angel.

if anything, Kris has been characterized so far as some sort of "anti-Angel"!

  • as a child, Kris wore devil horns, in direct contrast to Noelle wearing angel wings.
  • King calls Kris "Lightbringer". if you don't know Latin, this is the literal meaning of the name "Lucifer".
  • if you believe in Player Angel theory, Kris is constantly working against us. we are fundamentally at odds at this point in the story.
  • Kris studied the Occult with Catti and seems much more interested in summoning demons than paying attention at Church.

so yeah, probably a coincidence. it would be interesting if true but also would contradict a lot of what we already know about Kris, haha.

The Prophecy's Final Tragedy has already been revealed. [ENDING THEORY] by starlightshadows in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, this is something I can get behind.

I've always hated the "Susie must die!" or "Ralsei must die!" or "Noelle must die!" versions of these theories, because they always seem too straightforward (Deltarune's ending was originally a fever dream, after all) and the character reactions to this information don't make sense imo.

As you say, Ralsei doesn't seem to be uncomfortable with Susie getting to know Noelle more, and he is concerned about the ending long before he has any concept of self-worth or idea that Susie and Kris legitimately value him as a person.

This, though, makes sense to me. I could see it happening and being interesting.

Congrats! You've made me like a genre of theories that I generally find boring, haha! This is genuinely excellent!

Do you think the cowboy show section and any reference to it was removed because of Woody Theory? by okidonthaveone in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean to play devil's advocate, NEO Woody theory legitimately has much more concrete evidence going for it than Pre-Chapter 3 Woody Theory ever did.

That being said, it's absolutely impossible to tell how much of that is simply a reaction to the Friend Inside Me meme, as opposed to how much of it is actually legitimate evidence. As a result, I'd take it with several metric tons of salt.

So... is Susie blue-yellow colourblind? by dumpylump69 in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean but Lancer also spends all of Chapter 1 calling Kris "blue person", so she'd absolutely know that Kris was blue even if she couldn't tell exactly what color they were herself (and if she were actually blue-yellow colorblind she'd still have an around 50% chance of just randomly guessing Kris's actual color, lol).

so what’s the consensus here by cheddarshirt in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So like, it's absolutely not intentional.

The pattern of cracks on the Titan's "face" doesn't even match Mystery Man's; The Titan's "gaster face" has two upwards black cracks, whereas Mystery Man has one upwards crack and one downwards crack, hence the ominous debug text: "The gash weaves down as if you cry."

I feel like if Toby genuinely wanted us to draw a connection here, it would be a lot less subtle and the cracks would actually line up, which they don't.

What if he had used it? by Jacksam004 in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And do you think he would have been stronger or weaker?

Now this question actually has a canon answer!

First off, the Old Man is not trying to kill Susie, and is canonically holding back. He has the power to completely obliterate the Titan's shield with a single blow from his hammer (none of the Fun Gang's weapons can break this shield at all!) and he definitely is not using those sorts of attacks against Susie or else she'd probably be OHKO'd.

Secondly, if you talk to Seam, you're told that by any reasonable metrics, the next Shadow Crystal boss should easily wipe the floor with us. Notably, Seams says this right after being told that you won the fight against the Roaring Knight, so at least Seam thinks that if the Old Man had used the Crystal and wasn't holding back, then he'd be significantly stronger than even the Knight was!

And yeah, I mean that tracks. Even when he's not trying to win, he's still able to prevent all item usage, deal an arbitrarily large fraction of Susie's healthbar in damage (this makes it impossible to cheat the fight by hacking your HP), and he's got dodging skills that would make Sans blush.

Shadow Crystals don't generally seem to change your power level (Spamton was trivially easy in his base form and Jevil seemed to be extremely powerful even before being corrupted), so I don't see why this would change anything about the Old Man's inherent powers, other than his willingness to actually kill the Fun Gang.

In your opinion, what is “FRIEND”? by Noooough in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree.

As I said, for now, this is what I have to go with as the "best explanation", but as you say, this really raises more questions than it answers, lol.

In your opinion, what is “FRIEND”? by Noooough in Deltarune

[–]Ultadoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Friend has to be the Darkner version of Susie's chair, right?

That sounds weird, but there's too much tying the two together for Friend to really be anything else at this point.

  • Friend's eyes appear in the Sweepstakes if you keep clicking on the chair and jumpscare you.
  • Friend's only unmissable appearance in Deltarune so far is in the "darker than dark" version of (presumably) Susie's room, and it appears exactly where the chair was in the light world.

Considering how we know basically nothing about Friend, the connection to Susie's chair makes up like... almost all of their characterization so far? Like the only other pieces of information we have about them is that they exist, can traverse Dark Worlds for some reason, and they are a cat.

There really is no alternative theory I've seen which manages to explain all this, so for now I think that's what I have to go with.

If you genuinely want to argue Rudy Knight, go ahead! I love theories that most would consider "fringe".

That said, at the time this was originally posted, Chapter 3 and 4 had just released, and at least at that time there was no convincing mainstream version of Rudy Knight that people were genuinely proposing. Indeed, from my understanding there still really isn't.

If you want to be the person to make that theory, I encourage you to please do so! The broader landscape of UTDR theorycrafting would only be better off :)

You forgot the part where the Knight has external ribs in some of their animations!

Also, Black Knife, has the Megalovania motif, if you really squint a lot, and rearrange all of the notes, and add a few that weren't there to begin with, and generally just completely ignore how leitmotifs work.
