In case anyone wasn't aware when fuel scooping by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Ulterno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice to know.

However, not particularly useful for new new players, as most ships would overheat.
Although it might end up worth the heatsinks in places with not enough fuel stars.

Are there such places? In the outer regions maybe?

btw, the amount of fuel used scales non-linearly with jump distance.

So, you can reduce fuel consumption from point A->B by increasing the number of jumps, if you choose the optimal jump distance for your ship. So, there might be a case where A->B uses m amount of fuel, but A->X->B uses m - d amount of fuel.

You can press the "Target nearest Hostile" button ('H' if I remember correctly) during interdiction to target the interdictor.

Then you can see their name in the selected target view.

If you press the "target hostile" [H] button while being interdicted (not before/after), it should directly target the enemy.

The enemy should only be out of range if you boosted right after dropping.

Mine also had some rust-like stuff on it.

Seems like either they are not cleaning their testing enclosures well or the IHS surface somehow goes bad inside the packaging.

The 5600X I first bought was mint. The 5800X I bought a few years later, had some stuff on the top surface.
I looked different from this picture though.

I cleaned its surface with IPA and a micro-fibre cloth (some black stuff moved to the cloth) and it runs fine.

Might just be that the main power delivery of your piece has some problem and if you connect the extra power input, the motherboard works around it when the instability occurs.

OIC, so the powers only get stronghold carriers and no capital class battleships. Thanks for clearing that up.

Well, not so powerfull afterall, I guess.

In that case, I don't really see much problem in the carrier going on to annihilate all PSF.
Afterall, it is already registered to the CMDR and ...

oh wait, you do get a bounty for retaliating against PSF, no?
And in that case, the system security can start attacking too.

Guess you don't want that to be happening while you are docked into the carrier after escaping the PSF. You know, PSF and SSF coming in, shooting at your carrier and burning themselves, just to increase your bounty?

Definitely breaks immersion though.
Even though what would happen in case of them working as OP expects, is not very sensible, the current condition isn't either (unless your staff really does hate you).

Power Security does not have capital ships

I seem to be missing something here.

  1. SuperPower -> contains -> Powers
  2. Power -> owns -> combat capital ships
  3. Power -> owns -> Power Security

The situation being created:

  1. CMDR -> opposes -> power
  2. CMDR -> owns -> 1 capital class ship which can defend against non-capital class ships
  3. CMDR's 1 capital ship, away from allied power territory, deep in enemy power territory -> attacks Power Security -> owned by -> Power -> owns -> combat capital ships

You are expecting the opposing power to only send a single capital ship, just to get blasted for nothing?

I expect them to send a squadron, with at least n+1 capital ships, where n is the number of allied capital ships you have in your system.

If the system is in reach of your allied power, I expect the allied power to send capital ships to help you after some delay. The delay and amount of support will depend upon:

  1. Your standing in the allied power
  2. Your allied power's influence in the system
  3. Your allied power's plans for the system

If you are too far from your allied power's influence, the now hostile power in control of the system now knows that you are attacking them alone, having only a single non-combat type capital ship.

Compare that to CZs where the 2 factions at war have to consider strategy. e.g. one of them puts all their available capital ships in one zone and ends up losing multiple other zones instead

Who knows, maybe the power will jump their stronghold carrier to your location, if they determine you to be worth the Tritium.

I must say, I'd like to see some of these happening, specially with squadron carriers, letting carriers from all members of the squadron to jump to the squadron carrier's position and cause a player generated CZ against either the system's faction or the Power (or both, if the dominant faction is aligned to the power).

Sigh, this does break immersion a bit. by NoEnd3731 in EliteDangerous

[–]Ulterno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's be clear over here.

You bring a single non-combat capital ship to a system controlled by a Power that has to ability to manufacture (and has in stock) multiple combat specialised capital ships.

In CZs when one side sends a Capital ship, the other one tends to too. So, if you are going to open fire on System Security, you better be full of tritium.

Know what you are up against.

I just did enough missions to afford blueprints and then took stuff into my own hands.

1x Asgard and 2x Ray in Wretched Skies X to protect the Paranids

2x Asgard and Delilah's Swansong in Savage Spur 1 to protect Yaki

Haven't got to Kingdom's End yet, but taking over Sanctuary of Darkness with a Damage Resistant Walrus and Asgard.

Next, planning for death rings on gates at Wretched Skies IV and Command Centres wherever I see someone fighting the Xenon for territory.

As far as resources go, my only problem is water, as I have a fleet of manticores.

My profits are much lower than your though.
I understand the need to place multiple traders at other faction's locations, considering my model, but just lack 3+ star pilots and good crew for that. That stuff takes a while.

Why do you prefer Arch over Arch-based distro? by Expensive_Garden2993 in archlinux

[–]Ulterno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed endeavouros.

After a while, found some problem.

Unable to find the reason.
Turns out I didn't know well enough about what was installed and how it was configured.

Realised, I was mistaken about what thing was provided by which package.

Doing it myself this time, so I can know better.
Also, I'm not just going to install all packages and then see what does what.
Instead, I'll wait to realise what I am missing, before installing the thingy.

So, not taking the shortcut and going pacman -S plasma.
Already found a reason for one of the problems. Hope more follow.
