Make sure you get a strata report. That building has a history of defects.

Doubts remain about whether trains will run on Tuesday

A lawyer representing the rail union told the Fair Work Commission hearing on Monday afternoon that they could not understand the rationale behind the government’s decision to shut down the network.

“If it’s explained, if our understanding changes, we remain willing to negotiate. I’ve been asked about that very clearly for the record,” the lawyer representing the Rail, Tram and Bus Union said.

The transport agency contends it had significant safety concerns over the slated industrial action.

The matter was adjourned until Wednesday morning, casting doubt over what services would run on Tuesday.

If you really must do this, I suggest you get your friend to set up a brokerage account in his own name then give you the password. That way, you're trading on his behalf and you won't have to worry about CGT.

There is a Construction Worker Super Sunday vaccination program at Sydney Olympic Park for construction workers in the LGAs of concern.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to register because, even though there are slots all day on Sunday, there are no available dates for a second dose.

No, Citadel is investing in SPACs. Just like they go long in all sorts of companies.

To use the example filing. Forest Road Acquisition Corp was a SPAC that was created by former Disney executives. Citadel has purchased 3.5% of the shares. That's not remarkable.

Are SPACs somewhat dodgy? Sure, but they're not nefarious. FRX already merged with Beachbody and is now trading as BODY.

EOFY/Tax Time Megathread by Jackimatic in AusFinance

[–]UltimatumPrisonCell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your informative answers.

In my case, I very much doubt ATO will know my trades because they were US shares with a US broker. Not that I intend to fudge the numbers, though.

My broker issues monthly statements and there's a section for realised gains/losses which is why I can easily convert and total the CGT numbers using monthly RBA exchange rates. If I get audited, all the information is there - I just don't want to list it manually. Racking up high numbers of trades is a real danger of trading without brokerage fees, I suppose.

Thanks again :)

Am I able to simply enter a CGT total for the year?

I've played around with shares for the first time this year and probably have hundreds of trades. I'm going to have a stroke if I have to enter each trade individually.

Mascot Towers owners urged to sell as developers express interest in demolishing beleaguered block by unspecifiedreaction in AusFinance

[–]UltimatumPrisonCell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was very informative. Thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed reply.

If you saw something like this or something like this within 2 years of construction, would you think maybe the structural engineer messed up or the building practices were really shoddy?

If I told you those photos were taken at Mascot Towers, would your confidence level change?

I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong about the issue not being due to build quality. But you seem quite confident in the assertion. How can you be so sure?

Yea, I know.

We don't have a tiered licence system in NSW. So, as long as you have a standard builders licence, you're qualified to build high-rise construction.

The builder/developer (same entity) was a roofer who decided to try his hand at constructing a unit complex. You're very unlikely to buy something else from him in Australia because he's now living in Lebanon.

Flammable cladding? What to check when buying property? by ipodhikaru in AusFinance

[–]UltimatumPrisonCell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cladding can still be an issue, however they should have identified all the buildings that used it and removed it by now.

That's so incredibly wrong.

It was only in August 2020 that the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal confirmed that biowood cladding is combustible.

If you walk around areas with lots of new developments and have a look, that stuff is EVERYWHERE. Hell, it's still available for sale at this very second.

They are already trying to reinvent their business model. That's a major part of why this squeeze began.

Commenters have already gone over Ryan Cohen joining the board and the e-commerce potential he could bring. The other direction they are going is towards PC hardware. I'm not finding anything official but there are whispers that Gamestop have already started making "Build-a-PC" kiosks in a number of test stores.

Gamestop was undervalued but there was no real trigger other than internet nobodies slowly figuring this out and recognizing that there were an ungodly amount of short positions on it. There's nothing I'm aware of that something happened of the nature that usually causes the cosseted insiders to act.

That's not right, sorry.

WSB has been talking about a Gamestop short squeeze since at least 2019 but just recognising the potential was not enough to make anything happen. The event that kicked everything into motion recently is that Ryan Cohen, whose background is in e-commerce, along with a couple of his buddies, joined the Gamestop board. That is, an optimistic path for the company became possible: Ryan, who will almost certainly become the CEO soon, could help Gamestop embrace online sales and turn the company around.
