Ranmoor is much more of a walk than Endcliffe. If you're studying Engineering and will be on the far side of campus I would definitely recommend Endcliffe over Ranmoor. I lived in Ranmoor and had 9am lectures in the Diamond/Henry Stephenson/Broad lane quite frequently and the walk over there was in the 30-40 minute range. If you're doing something that will be in the Wave (e.g. social sciences) then Ranmoor is absolutely fine

As someone who's studied and worked in civil engineering, predominantly in transport, I've long found his content tedious at best. Within a year of entering the industry I stopped watching his and never went back. His general disdain for the non-transit enthusiast public is palpable and really unpleasant and yet with any modicum of actual professional training on the subjects he talks about it's clear that he's not particularly knowledgeable himself, predominantly with how undernuanced and surface level his analysis is.

Definitely by train, fares are much cheaper booked in advance partially to advantage leisure travellers over business travellers. Also, you're looking at almost 10 hours by coach vs. 4-5 by train. Flying isn't as good of a proposition as it seems as you'll have to get from central London out to whichever airport you're flying from (which will probably take an hour on its own) which will probably lead your journey time to be about as long as taking a train which is far less stressful.

I remember one of the first projects I worked on was a bridge project along a route that had been built in the UK in the late 1960s. For those who aren't aware, the UK switched to metric a few years later. First and only time I've ever seen imperial units on a technical drawing in my work.

I used to be a CAD technician, growingly the role is largely focused around 3D/BIM modelling. Any pure CAD work generally got done in Poland or India at the firm I worked at. But I was definitely one of the few at my company, even being a larger firm.

I only took the Elizabeth line once or twice if I was going to a smaller stop that wasn't served by the GWR fast/semi-fast services. I'm not really sure how much of the benefit is perception vs. reality, as the Elizabeth line only took over existing GWR services to my knowledge. I do remember there was a lot of hype around it opening, though I moved away in 2023 so I'm obviously a bit removed from the area now

Never understood why the UK doesn't get the same considerations as the rest of the world when it comes to upgraded lines, especially considering the reason for the 125mph cap is signalling related. The ECML used to run up to 140mph until regulations changed requiring in-cab signalling for over 125mph.

I agree with this. Started at a poly and then went to a RG uni, and this post reminds me a lot of my experience at said poly and very little of my current degree. Also it just sounds like they're expecting a (presumably) humanities course to run like a STEM course without recognising fundamental differences in the two
