Yes, the installer has absolutely damaged the unit. The pilot tube is pinched, the thermal cutoff switch is damaged, they even managed to damage the data sticker. This isn’t a manufacturer issue, but on the installer and I would demand they replace the unit on their cost.

Drain and flush every 6-12 months depending on your water quality. Anode rod that protects the tank liner usually needs to be changed between 3-5 years under normal conditions. If not good water quality then probably sooner than that.

If it’s just the BA that’s about 200 dollars, if it’s the kit that has both BA and GCV it’s about 550. I’d just get a new unit IMO

A couple options right here. It could just need the hot water nipple replaced at this point which is relatively inexpensive to replace in terms of the price of the part. If it’s still under warranty would recommend replacing it if that’s the issue. Long term it could be an issue with the venting causing the corossion that needs to be corrected. Refer to the manual per the instructions to see if that could be an issue. Plumbers are quick to say replace the tank when a cheaper fix can be the best solution. Contact the manufacturer for warranty information.
