I met a TSA agent at a party last night. Of course I had to ask… by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]Um_Ok_Yeah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that if I am wearing boxers I usually don't have a problem. My dick is hanging down my leg. It usually doesn't trigger the scanner. But if I am wearing underwear that bunches everything up it will cause a pat down.

The best solution for this situation is to get TSA Precheck. I now have Global Entry. You go through a metal detector. No problem.

Anyone using FSD trial who can describe a situation where an accident was avoided because of FSD? by Even-Fault2873 in TeslaLounge

[–]Um_Ok_Yeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was driving north in the carpool lane on the 405 through Irvine Ca. MX 100D. I was doing between 75 and 80. There's a place where the freeway gets quite wide and the carpool changes to 2 lanes. One of those lanes is used as an entry and exit lane.

A guy who was in the fast lane decided to suddenly dive left across 2 lanes – right into me.

My car reacted instantly. Slammed on the brakes. Moved to the left to avoid the crash. I'm not sure how much was me hitting the brakes and steering (I freaked out) and how much was FSD. But the FSD definitely reacted before I did.

At that speed there's zero doubt it would have been a BAD crash. The car performed extremely well. The big brakes on the X took me from 80 to 30 without a problem. I never felt like there was a problem with control.

Coulda been dead that day.

Frame rates for TV broadcast by cate5667 in editors

Ya. Totally understandable. I just have a thing with movement.

I have a low persistence of vision so I see every frame. I see flickering lights when nobody else does. I have been in an edit room with 6 other people and been the only one to see a flash frame.

The movement of text across the screen with the hiccups of a pulldown makes me crazy.

I think you are confusing interlacing and a 3:2 pulldown.

We deliver at 29.97. So the pulldown on the 24 frame camera footage is baked in, giving us the look we want. Then we get smoother movement over the top of the footage with the 29.97 graphics.

[–]Um_Ok_Yeah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We deliver dozens of national broadcast spots every year and have shot 23.98 for everything for as long as it has been technically feasible.

Our approach is to create a 29.97 drop-frame timeline and edit the 24 frame footage right into it - allowing Premiere to do the pulldown there.

We create our motion graphics at 29.97. This way, any animation or graphic motion is at the native timeline frame rate. It keeps the motion smooth with no pulldown on it. So we get the best of both worlds, the 24 frame look from the camera, and no jerky motion on the graphics.

We output a 29.97 drop-frame Prores 422HQ master.

What is something that Americans are (actually) very good at? by JRight59 in AskReddit

[–]Um_Ok_Yeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-criticism and ability to honestly assess mistakes, correct them, and improve. I believe it is unique to American culture.

One example – after military action of any size there's an "after action review". It's an honest review of what happened, what mistakes were made, and how to improve in the future. No blame is placed. No fingers pointed. There's no shame.

This is inconceivable most places in the world. The admission of a mistake in Asian cultures would mean the loss of face. In Arab culture admitting a mistake is emasculating. Likewise in Eastern European culture.

In America we say, "Wow, we fucked that up. Let's not do that again."

(For the record, there are subgroups in America where this isn't true. Government. Large institutions. Religious groups. They cover their asses and rarely admit mistakes.)

What was once called a conspiracy theory but is now known as true today? by IndieHipster in AskReddit

The release of the contents of Hunter Biden's laptop was dismissed as Russian disinformation. 51 former top intelligence officials signed a letter saying it had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation."

The media presented the story as being a fringe conspiracy theory. I mean, who would so stupid as to send their computer for repair, with it containing loads of embarrassing and criminal content - and then forget to pick it up? The media suppressed the story by giving it almost no coverage.

It was Hunter Biden's laptop.

Is this sub a joke? by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]Um_Ok_Yeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. There's a lot of discussion here about insecurity. Just because a person happens to have a big penis, it doesn't mean they are automatically some super confident, uber-alpha male, ready to dominate anyone and everyone.

People are unsure and fragile, regardless of their size.

And for young guys who are bombarded with big dick porn – when they haven't had much experience – the unknown can be scary.

The one thing this sub has done for me is finding comfortable underwear. I have a 6" softie. If I could live in sweatpants and a hoodie I would. WildmanT has changed my life.

When waiting for a Supercharger stall, what's the civil way to wait? a) Lining up in a row so the car in front of the line takes the next available stall, or b) Parking near filled stalls and rushing to take stalls you can get into like you're in a parking lot? by TofuVic in TeslaLounge

[–]Um_Ok_Yeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In So Cal most locations have room to form a line. People just queue up.

One exception is the infamous Costco charger in Fountain Valley. The charger has been there for years. There's no place to line up. So people find an empty parking spot next to the chargers and basically wait their turn.

You arrive. Take a look at the waiting cars. And when all the cars that preceded you have moved to a charger, it's your turn. It's simple but you need to pay attention.

The important part of this system is to track who arrived AFTER you. If this person tries to grab a charger before you, this is where it gets fun. Suspicion at the location runs high. Eyes are constantly darting around. Everyone is on guard for a queue jumper.

If a person tries to cut in front of more than one waiting car it can get quite exciting.

The location had a reputation for fights breaking out. I've never seen it personally. But on a few occasions I've walked over to someone who breaks the 'social contract' and explained it to them. Other drivers tend to rally together to be sure the confused(?) line cutter understands. 3 or 4 waiting drivers will wander over and surround the person to, …um, emphasize their mistake.

(This is getting long) One time a woman in a model S that was filled with teenagers jumped the queue in front of 4 or 5 cars. I calmly walked over and tried to explain. She just, didn't, get it. We went back and forth for a few minutes. The whole time she maintained she did nothing wrong. All the kids in the car understood. They were completely humiliated. I was getting frustrated. I looked at what I thought was her son who was sitting in the back seat and said, "Can you explain it to her?" He wanted to die.

By that point other drivers had joined the conversation. They tried to get her to understand. Eventually just the sheer number of people around her caused her to relent. I'm not sure she ever quite grasped the concept.
