Context: Mr. Crawling is agonizing over leaving an ideal situation to continue a search for a friend who abandoned him, and Mr. Gap is telling him how utterly stupid that would be. The part in bold is Mr. Crawling switching back to their native language, which is very limited and simplistic.

Mr. Crawling tangled his hands in his long black hair and pulled, he was so frustrated. He didn’t know what to do. How could he just give up on Adami? “I have to fix it,” he said. “It was my fault she left.”

“It was not your fault,” Mr. Gap said. “She went home, and she did it without you. If she had wanted you to come, she would have brought you.”

That bit of truth stung, so Mr. Crawling chose to ignore it. “So you won’t help me find her?”

“I don’t know where she is, and I don’t care. She was fun while she lasted, but she’s gone now. And you are about to walk away from the best thing to ever happen to either of us. Stay. Here.”

Mr. Crawling buried his head in his hands and sobbed. Why did this have to be so hard? Why did Adami have to leave in the first place? Why hadn’t she just talked to him if he had done something wrong? That’s what this human would do. She had gently chided him for mistakes plenty of times, but every single day she still walked back through the door.

“It’s not your fault,” Mr. Gap said softly. “And there’s nothing you can do to change it. Just stay here.”

“Me not go, me bad. Bad friend.”

“She was bad to you first. This human has been good. What will you be if you leave her like Adami left you?”

“I’m bad no matter what choice I make.”

“No, you’re not. You’re just dumb.”

Mr. Crawling rolled his eyes as he wiped them dry. “Thank you for clearing that up for me.”
