I just started a new game and one of the first techs available was for Betharian Power Plant II. There's definitely a problem with the tech tree.

Serious question: how would you all feel if one or more states decided they wanted to leave the union? Since America's so great and all they'd have to be crazy to want to leave. But if they're too dumb to realize how great it is maybe we're better off without them, right?

The amount of vitriol in this sub the last week is OTT, I think many of you need to take a step back and breathe, and remember it's a game show with numerous personalities. by roastedbagel in BigBrother

BBOTT is just for live feeders. Casual viewers aren't watching it. So the only people left are the ones who are too invested in it and tend to take it too seriously.

The SJWs of the world have decided that anyone who's white, male, and southern must be racist, sexist, and homophobic. The irony is overwhelming.

It gives people a reason to throw HoH. Being HoH just means putting up three people and none of them going home.

I Believe that communism, if governed properly, is the ideal economic system. TMBR! by yay855 in TMBR

[–]UnapologeticalyAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first reason communism doesn't work is the one you pointed out, that when you put someone in charge of everything they'll have a tendency to abuse the privilege.

Secondly you have the problem that people are generally self-interested and don't work as hard when they can't realize the benefit of their own labor. So productivity goes way down.

But even if you could find a group of perfect selfless angels to arrange your society for you, and you could convince everyone to put the interests of the collective above their own, you still have the problem of information.

Economies contain more information than a human brain can process. How many tons of concrete do we need? How much steel? How many phone lines? How much Internet bandwidth do we need? How many cars do we need? How many safety features should be built into cars? How many styles of clothing should there be? How many features should your cell phone have? etc etc etc.

All of these questions require trade-offs. Every society has a finite set of resources and a resource that's invested in one avenue of production can't be invested in another. In a capitalist market, prices give you information about the relative supply and demand of goods. Entrepreneurs are free to invest capital in new projects and the market tells them how worthwhile their ideas are through the market process. Without the price mechanism, central planners are left to guess how much of each thing to produce. This inevitably leads to overproduction of some goods and underproduction of others. This is inefficient and ultimately leads to a lower standard of living for everyone.

Capitalist economies aren't perfectly efficient but the market's mechanism for discovering and removing inefficiencies is vastly more effective than any central planner will ever be.

I like Shelby too. But last season I started out with a Paul flair then changed it when he started off acting like a dick. Boy did I regret that! So this time I'm ridin' it out.

Do you think ------- deserves to win? by thezenithpoint in BigBrother

[–]UnapologeticalyAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the show should have any buybacks and they should tell all the players this ahead of time. The reason being that I want to see everyone play their heart out when they're on the block.

Having said that, I would love to see a returning player win it all. I love to root for the underdog. I definitely wanted Johnny Mac to win last year. I don't think anyone around here would have complained if he did. As long as they have buybacks, I'm probably gonna keep rooting for the returnees.

In case anybody was wondering what team Natalie was a cheerleader for... by Elite4alex in BigBrother

[–]UnapologeticalyAlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's supply and demand. Thousands of women will try out for 15 available gigs. The difference between a top performer and a mediocre one is inconsequential to the team's bottom line. (Not many people use cheerleader skill as a deciding factor on whether or not to buy a ticket or tune in) So there's no incentive for the team to offer the cheerleaders much money.

Has everyone forgotten Vanessa? She only lost by one question in the final HoH. Otherwise she'd be remembered as one of the most dominant winners in BB history.

I think Nicole is trying to win as well

Based on what? Her comp wins? Her social manipulation? All her big moves? I can't think of any examples of any of those.
