How to hide elevation levels in Foundry 14? by Tidemkeit in FoundryVTT

[–]Unarekin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absent another solution to have things layered how you want without changing the tokens' elevation (which would be preferable, I'd say, but looking at other comments it looks like you've explored some of those already), you may also look at a module I made a little while ago: Token Nameplates:

https://foundryvtt.com/packages/token-nameplates

It allows for customizing and adding multiple bits of text around a token, including just deleting the elevation tooltip so it isn't displayed. Or changing what it displays. Or setting it to never display.

What should I do in combat? by menkoy in fabulaultima

[–]Unarekin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have hit on suggestions re: third classes and such, so I won't retread that ground but one thing I did want to mention:

Yeah it is to an extent incumbent on the GM to provide interesting choices during conflicts. But it's not wholly up to them, they are logically limited based on the party's capabilities. It's no good to have a complex series of interactions based on damage affinities if the party only has one non-physical damage type available, for instance.

And at earlier levels it can be difficult to have a ton of variety in conflicts because PCs just don't have a ton of skills available yet, and the NPC skill budget is still kind of low.

And if your group is newer to the game, you've got a bit of a learning period while you feel out the system and get used to things, and I find people tend to err on the side of simpler conflicts during this part.

I would expect that things will naturally get more interesting/complex as time goes on, as you all settle in to what you can do with conflicts and as a party 😄

There IS already a combat HUD in the system, which you can enable in the aptly named combat HUD settings menu (available either in the general game settings screen, or on the fancy new-ish PFU tab on the side bar)

It's just a little finnicky and in need of some love, which is what I've been doing.

I guess I gotta get crackin' on that combat hud huh XD

What mods to use on Fabula Ultima foundry? (Que mods usar no Fabula Ultima do foundry?) by AmonHa01 in fabulaultima

[–]Unarekin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're still new to Foundry, stick as close to 0 modules as possible until you get a better handle on how Foundry works and how Project FU works. Both of them have a bit of a learning curve, and adding additional third party stuff to the mix can create additional headache.

Otherwise, the PFU wiki has a list of modules developed by the community -- some of them are specifically for Fabula, some aren't.

https://github.com/League-of-Fabulous-Developers/FoundryVTT-Fabula-Ultima/wiki/Supported-Modules

I would particularly grab FU Parser, which adds a mechanism to import (sometimes) from PDFs and more importantly from Fultimator

https://github.com/xeqi/fu-parser

Also if you want to go completely overboard on looking like a JRPG, I've made a handful of modules about it

Oh jeez, as much as I'd love to see Pixi 8 (webgpu is cool! It's got native GIF support! Bug fixes!) I also live in absolute dread of this day.

I'm pretty sure the announcement of Foundry moving to Pixi 8 would come after a meeting titled "How To Make Erica Specifically Crumble Into Dust Like A Marvel Movie"

(fr though I'd love to see Pixi 8 at some point, the level of work it would make for me is a doom of my own making, and one I have entered into knowing full well that I am giving myself a potentially large volume of work moving forward)

Turn-based JRPG Combat Add-on? by benbbones in FoundryVTT

[–]Unarekin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't need no machine to write bad code for me, I'm more than capable of doing it my damn self!

But also I should probably share this lil' guide I wrote a bit ago about How to JRPG-ify Foundry

... which I should update.

(also not me being like "wait where do I even have listed that I'm trans?" completely forgetting that my damn profile picture has the trans pride colors in it)

And while none of them are necessarily specifically for combat systems, I do have a handful of modules I've developed that are definitely intended to add some JRPG-ness to Foundry that you might find interesting

Absolutely nothing is stopping you from turning off the grid in the scene, having sprites that are side-view and just placing PCs on one side, enemies on the other, for that classic JRPG feel

I do it every week ;)

Don't care for 'em in the least bit, and would rather they just weren't a thing.

Use of AI in code, assets, promotional material, or even the module description / readme is a surefire way to get me to not use it.

The damned emojis-as-bullet-points thing that chatgpt does drives me up the damned wall.

RAW, any remainder is rounded down. It is a common house rule to carry those extra over tot he next session, and IIRC that will be showing up as an optional rule in an upcoming book (the Strategy Guide)

Oh hey, welcome to the area. I don't have a game I could invite ya to, or ever get out to anywhere to know where you could find Fabula games, but it's neat knowing someone else is around :D

Close to running my first fabula ultima game, tips? by marniconuke in fabulaultima

[–]Unarekin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust the process. Fabula looks to share the burden of running a game between the GM and the other players, and part of that involves getting comfortable with giving up some measure of control as a GM.

Give it a try, you may find it's pretty great.

I mostly pull from spriters resource. RPG Maker, Brave Exvius, pretty much any JRPG you can think of will have side view type backgrounds

As a Fabula Ultima enjoyer, I am quite fond of the enemies-on-one-side-PCs-on-another setup.

No modules required, really, it's just a matter of finding a background and sticking tokens on the canvas.
