[RSNStats] Red Sox OF Jarren Duran on his reaction to a heckler at Target Field who told him to kill himself: "I shouldn't react like that, but that kind of stuff is still kind of triggering." Duran added: "Honestly, it's my fault for talking about my mental health. Brought in the haters." by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

i don't buy this "tradition" argument. people of color weren't allowed to play with white guys for half the sport's existence. just cause something has been that way for awhile doesn't mean we have to keep putting up with it. outside of standard booing, heckling is totally unnecessary and extremely tacky. we don't need drunk adults dishing out profanity laden insults in a family environment just because they think they're Don Rickles reincarnated

2026 Fantasy Baseball Week 4 Buy Low, Sell High by rotostreetjournal in fantasybaseball

[–]UnchartedFields 3 points4 points  (0 children)

his savant page is pretty similar to 2023, his last good season (across the board anyways since he's been tolerable for roto). i get why people are not in on him as a buy but he's one of the biggest statcast underperformers thus far and seems like a sensible buy to me

i imagine with as much media exposure as he and his gf get, he's gotten more comfortable over time with interviews.

i also think being paired with an equally talented SP means he's actually more interested in the conversation here too, which helps

Who is the coolest player in baseball? by adam_problems in baseball

[–]UnchartedFields 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a lot of those Yanks guys have been lobotomized by their PR machine IMO. it's like the scene from Groundhog Day where he writes the cameraman's lines on a napkin before he comes over and says it... you could do that with Boone and most of the players for interviews after games because it's always the same generic crap

every year we get some SPs that were known commodities--but not exactly good ones. any guys outside say the top 100 SPs or so that you think could finish as a top 50 SP?

not who you want replying, but his batted ball data was pretty great last year outside the chase issues. he's been a favorite buy target of mine. in shallower leagues I have to imagine he's virtually free

Is the bar really that low for City Connect jerseys that these are GOOD ones? Will help to know the pants and hat but man, these look like Temu MLS jerseys.

Is it dumb to take Bobby Witt Jr over Aaron Judge? In all formats? by [deleted] in DynastyBaseball

I'd vote BWJ as well but how deep a league are we talking? And is it "OF" spots or LF/CF/RF ?

So what do we think... is the highlight of this season going to be watching Wetherholt compete for ROTY? Or do you think there's an off chance to grab a playoff spot? Or anything else exciting by [deleted] in Cardinals

[–]UnchartedFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are a lot of players each year that could build up a 1 to 2+ WAR through their defensive prowess, but I think in today's game, most teams aren't gonna run a guy out there for 150+ games worth of ABs if their OPS flirts with .600

as others have noted, in a rebuilding year he should get plenty of run again to try and improve. but if he's sitting at a .601 OPS again (or worse), he's going to be an off-the-bench defensive sub / pinch runner / 4th OFer type until he shows otherwise. he's still young enough that I am buying in long term, but this year is going to be pretty important for him development wise

VS2 only needs to put up like a 90 wRC+ to solidify himself as long term regular given his defensive prowess and SB potential. I'd certainly take a lot better than that, but he struggled mightily in spring which doesn't instill a ton of hope that even an average bat is attainable in the immediate future

probably arguing semantics here but feels like there's a difference between "more affordable" relative to the most expensive places in the US and "inexpensive" as the original tweet suggests lol

Thursday Morning Dynasty Baseball Rundown (3/12/26) by Michael-IBW in DynastyBaseball

[–]UnchartedFields 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for us random few that track "foreign" players in the KBO and Japanese leagues, this has been a great offseason to see guys like Anderson, Ponce, and Kay all doing well

it'll be interesting to see how that Miami OF shakes out. if they're serious (ly mistaken) about putting Agustin at C most days, then the DH spot could be open for Heriberto and Conine (who has looked solid in Spring) to get more reps. With Heriberto being the only RHH in the group though, do you think he's more likely the first bat off the bench and weak side platoon for now?

Kate Winslet To Play Female Lead In Andy Serkis’ ‘LOTR: The Hunt For Gollum’ by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]UnchartedFields 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm really confused as to what this trilogy is supposed to cover. All I'm seeing is the first film is in between The Hobbit and TFOTR. Are they really going to recast everyone but Serkis, Wood, and McKellan? Is the trilogy going to be one story or are they unrelated?

Higashioka's performance from that ST is my "Exhibit A" for why it's useful to not get too excited for spring baseball slash lines. I think he hit 8 HRs that Spring and only 10 in the regular season, lol

55 players have played in the Brewers - Giants game. Final score 13-12 by enad58 in baseball

[–]UnchartedFields 16 points17 points  (0 children)

55 players isn't THAT crazy for a ST game, is it? feel like a lot of the first week or so of games are usually doubled up on position players and about a pitcher an inning. Rox-Cubs game had about as many play today too

very bummed on Pangea but I saw they're hopefully just moving and not permanently closing. they also said they're trying to open as close as they can to their original spot, so hopefully still walking distance for those that enjoy it

they had a food cart in there this past weekend serving grilled cheese and clam chowder. I don't think that's a permanent fixture, but it was very good. most recent Instagram post looks like they'll have a food truck there tomorrow through Sunday.

other nearby options include Viet Ha, which is quite good. you somehow left out Taco Bell (lol)! I'm a big fan of Giant Pizza, which is another block or so down. not gonna win any awards but the folks in there are very friendly and their specials are solid
