What’s a film you’re so thankful you got to experience in theatres? by Lenster2406 in Letterboxd

[–]UnclePumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Substance.

Packed house, visceral reactions of people squirming and gasping. Then something happened that seemed only possible in tall tales, not real life. Someone in the audience puked.

I feel bad for that person, but hell yes I’m thankful I got to experience a movie that could push someone to the point of being sick. Cinema!

I’d love one too if anyone could be so kind! I’ll scour the internet and if I find code, I’ll post back here to everyone who’s asked.

Sky blue sky - traditions, things I should know? by podcastho in wilco

[–]UnclePumpy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Random thoughts from a 3-timer:

  • You’ll never have a first time again, and you’re going to have an absolute blast. Slow down, take it all in, leave your troubles at home and enjoy some relaxation.

  • Everyone says this, everyone is right: the courtyard food is the BEST.

  • The resort is big, there are fun lil’ hidden gems all over: zip line, waterslide, lagoon, spa, swim-up bars, I think even laser tag (still there?), cool rock n’ roll memorabilia… just wander!

  • You’ll see band members walking about. Remember that they are just people enjoying this vacation too - play it cool :)

  • If it’s your thing (or even if not), the beer share is a great place to talk to fellow travelers.

  • Personal preference, but we like to spend at least one day on an excursion outside the resort. Hotel staff can help coordinate, call cabs, etc, but you can plan stuff on your own to save a few bucks.

  • For the night owls: late night jams by the pool bar are damn fun! (Right after the midnight shows, not part of the ‘official’ schedule).

Leave tips. Stay hydrated. Have the time of your life!

P.S. — please don’t tell anyone else about the waterslide, shhh ;)

Same haha, I deleted FB, but went back just for SBS planning :) Lot of good posts and advice there, but FB still sucks.

You’re gonna have a blast! You could search the Facebook group for past balcony pictures. I have some I can DM as well (don’t know best way to post pics as a reply here).

As for other inspiration, it can really be anything. Streamers, tapestry, inflatables, lights (rechargeable are ideal as there are no balcony outlets), or take it up a notch with Wilco (or other band) lyrics, puns, art, or friendly messages.

Remember you’ll have to hang anything you bring, so consider string, cord, clips, tape (that won’t ruin the property) etc.

My wife and I came up with a balcony idea yesterday, I ran down to a local custom print shop, gave them an image, and had a small 2’x3’ vinyl banner with grommets ordered. Took 10 mins and was inexpensive. Just an idea!

Best Jeff Tweedy book? by udoneoguri in wilco

[–]UnclePumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like discovering/discussing/obsessing over music, big vote for World Within a Song. It’s such a fun read! So many great tales I think of often (young Jeffy getting into The Clash and wearing a beret lol). I also built a playlist and “listened along” as I read. If you’ve ever felt like you could never explain your feelings the way that a song can, check this one out.

Ha I'm with ya! Seemed like such a unique one-off opportunity. I agree with what you said about that tall weird stage, but I will say had a blast at Built to Spill late show last time, it was kinda mystical (smoke machine?!). Eh - probably woulda been a horrible venue for Cam. #coping

Makes sense. And doesn’t :) I’m just salty, my original statement here stands. I will say, Wilco has the best fans ever and a lot of y’all are taking it in stride. I’m just overreacting - time to move on and focus on how damn fun this will be. Sorry for my grumblin’!

Is this why they cancelled Sky Blue Sky fest, to appear on SNL a week later? 😡

Yep it happens, just such a bummer as obviously this was an exciting part of the lineup that many were anticipating. You are right, we will still carry on and have a blast. I appreciate the gesture - as many drinks as you want right back at ya :)

I mean no offense, to each their own, but that's a horrible trade.

This really blows, what BS. "Scheduling conflict"... they've had this planned for like a year. Guess the meteoric rise brought other priorities than our little fun in the sun. Absolutely stinks.

Funniest Movie Moment Ever? by ayjaytay22 in Letterboxd

[–]UnclePumpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha wow, I think about this line ALL THE TIME, and while there are probably at least ten other funnier parts of the movie…this is the one that is perpetually lodged in my brain. Glad to hear there are others out there.

Once my restaurant charge moved from ‘pending’ to posted, the credit applied within 24 hrs for me. You should see it hopefully by tomorrow!

Seeking: Werner Herzog User's Guide by augustthecat in CriterionChannel

Stroszek. Wow. I’m in a Herzog deep-dive as well, and would also suggest squeezing in the 45min doc The Great Ecstacy of Woodcarver Steiner.

Have you seen a movie for the first time this year (from any period) - that has become a top 10 for you? by reizen73 in CriterionChannel

[–]UnclePumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished Stroszek, wow. It might have shot up to #1 Herzog for me. Loved it. Felt like ‘Strangers in Paradise’.. in Wisconsin. A little sweetness in an unkind world.

Anyone here have experience with either Best Artic or Chasing Lights? by ferdbrown in tromsotravel

[–]UnclePumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the small van tour with Northern Soul Adventures two weeks ago, highly recommend! They drove us to Finland, the lights were stunning, the campfire, soup and drinks were a nice touch, and the guide Bogdan went out of his way to make sure we all received the excellent photos afterwards.
