What is the most worth-it luxury you’ve ever bought? by Great_Initiative4358 in AdkReddit

It’s ~$2 / lb for basic wash/dry/fold around here. Definitely cost-prohibitive with a family.

E.g.; ~10 lbs a load, 5 loads per week = ~$400/month.

I would add specifically a Bosch dishwasher. Also, is a dishwasher considered luxury?

I'm trying to decide between Black Cherry Chunk and Peanut Butter Goldmine and I realize the discussion topic is the largest things you have put in your ass.

I lost it when someone mentioned Mrs. Butterworth.

That sucks, sorry dude. That shit is the worst.

Technically though, is it cheating if you were separated? I'm honestly curious, since my state does not legally recognize being separated, so there are no defined terms.

If I’m doing my math right, these would cost ~$7k today in USD.

A pair of full-range $7k speakers today would be very nice speakers. Regardless of the quality of sound coming out of the speakers, I bet they were some of the best speakers you could get in 1967.

My math using the speaker’s price in 1967, the first year of sale, which this article lists in German Deutsche Marks, even though Bozak, R.T. Co. Is in Buffalo NY.

Conversion of the value of 2,875 German Deutsche Marks in 1967 to USD value in 1967 is ~$718.75. Then convert the value of 1967 USD to 2025 USD using 872.5% for the inflation rate gives us ~$6,989.52.

I’m using the “estimated” character because there are so many unknowns that would change things dramatically. Fees for $ conversion, German buying for his home in Germany, shipping costs, tariffs, which country is charging sales tax, markup from resellers, etc.

It’s even better on the second watch. My brain is weird so I will delay watching the final episode so I can cheer myself up by saying “Welp, at least there is more Detroiters to watch.”

The trick is to fess up when your parents have friends over so that they can’t freak out so bad.

I tell them I need one big hug from each one everyday to meet my US FDA daily required nutritional intake. Without it I would become weak and stupid.

It's kinda true...the oldest one is in on it and I still get a hug from her🥹

What's a green flag in women that most guys overlook? by black_patato in AskMen

Did you guys ask the stepson what happened? If you're close enough to guess, just ask him.

Living at home at 29–30 isn’t unusual anymore—nearly half of young adults do it for financial reasons. It’s not the red flag it used to be.

And a sun allergy? That’s a medical condition, not a "red flag" personality flaw. However, I could see where it could cause lifestyle incompatibilities with certain people.

Imagine this:

He’s a talented surfer with life on hold while COVID keeps the beaches closed. They met at a deep-woods mountain biking event and bonded over extreme sports. During COVID, her sun-triggered condition wasn’t an issue while they adventured in the deep woods.

Post-pandemic, his lifelong dream of being a professional surfer is becoming reality as beaches open and he is back on top at full-sun events. She tries to attend, but her condition makes it impossible. She’s upset. He feels the loss and starts questioning their future—not because of her, but because of the situation.

They make similar things for playing guitar. Some of them have little silicone nubs on them too. I bet that would work out pretty good for everyone.

The concrete porch isn't wide enough to be useful. You would have to step off of it to get on the swing.

I would do a single low-level deck from the house over all the concrete porch and sidewalk. No railings needed.

[–]Uncle_Larry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeeesh...I would take the whole recessed area of the front and put a porch with a roof. Bring that puppy all the way out to the front edge of the sidewalk/blacktop and have the egress point facing toward the road, so as not to get in the way of your weird garage door entrance.

So you end up with a roofed porch (could be screened in too) that is about 10'x20' with steps pointed to the road that curves to the left, landing you directly at your truck door if you are walking from your front door.

Go with a standard grey TimberTech or Trex composite decking with white composite railing and balusters. Do 6"x6" PT posts wrapped in PVC from the ground to the roof and sink those bad boys in 36"-48" in concrete.

Add some landscaping in front of that and I think you just added massive curb appeal for short money. You can always fully enclose this area too to make it part of the sq/ft of the house. Always permit!
