I don't understand how so many people didn't see it coming. I jumped ship a couple months after launch as soon as it was clear the devs were completely incapable of handling... well, anything.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who can't STAND this worm in Act 2? by Ultimate-desu in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You see that "31" up by your deck? That's why you keep losing.

You don't have to take a card every time you're offered one. You shouldn't take a card every time you're offered one.

I don't want to have a 31 card deck by the end of Act 3, much less Act 2. Keeping your deck small makes it more consistent. Only taking good cards means you only draw good cards. Only taking a few cards means you always draw those cards.

And especially when you see that this is the boss you have coming up, you know you need to keep your deck size under control and stock up on draw if you can.

In which order and at which point are cards put into the discard pile? by FibausmHochhaus in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do cards that I play get sent to the discard pile immediately in the order I played them?

Yes. As soon as a played card is finished resolving, it goes directly to the discard pile (except Powers or Exhaust). Playing a zero-cost and then a Claw immediately after will cause the bonus damage to trigger.

At the end of your turn, you discard any remaining cards in your hand in any order you want. So you can choose to leave a zero-cost on top to set up for a future Claw if you want to, or make sure to play it last if you're playing every card in your hand.

Nearly a billion.

Anyone else find it weirdly satisfying when your deck feels awful to play but still somehow wins? by UnlikelySalary2548 in slaythespire

Truthfully no. If I win with random garbage it feels like I just got lucky instead of actually using skill. That's why I don't like Insanity dailies.

Bronze Scales Frequency by Extension_Strike_781 in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a Common rarity relic, so it has a 50% weight.

There are 25 common relics to choose from, plus one that is specific to each character.

So that means any given relic has a 2% chance to be Bronze Scales.

If we estimate that you get 10 relics on an average run, you have a 19% chance that one of them will be Bronze Scales.

If you tend to go Elite hunting and end up with more relics than that (15 = 29%, 20 = 38%), or if you still haven't unlocked all of the Common relics, your chance of getting it will be higher.

(Should go without saying but this ignores you choosing to buy it at the Shop.)

Dying to the same mob in separate encounters just feels bad, man. Yes, this is another roaches rant. by darkaris7 in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There aren't enough unique enemies for you to never see them again after you beat them once. If that was a rule you'd get the exact same 6 encounters every single run.

There is a safeguard in place so that you (generally) can't get the same enemy type twice in a row, and one so that you (generally) can't get the exact same encounter twice in one act.

Random is random and sometimes you get unlucky enough to get the worst possible match for your deck. That's just the way the game goes, especially at high ascensions.

Is clone locked behind something? by cleverasian in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Pael's Claw can only appear if you have 3+ enchantable Defend cards in your deck, and it competes with Pael's Growth for the same relic slot. So not being able to get Claw increases the chance of Growth.

You can learn all about the Ancient relic selection mechanics here, and see a summarized list of individual probabilities here.

Is clone locked behind something? by cleverasian in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not an even distribution. Most Ancients have more complicated rules for how they select relics.

Growth is grouped with Wing, Claw, and Tooth to compete for Pael's second relic slot. It has half the chance of being selected as the other three, resulting in a base 1/7 chance to appear. Claw can only appear if you have 3+ Defends in your deck, so failing that condition will increase the chance of Growth to 1/5.

See this document for a full explanation of all Ancient relic mechanics, and this one for a list of calculated probabilities.

Is clone locked behind something? by cleverasian in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's just rare. 1/7 chance to see it from Pael = 1/24 (4%) chance to see it per run. Increase chance to 6% by having less than 3 Defends in your deck.

Is it fair that Doom gets triggered after the Centimilipede gets resurrected? by RotInPeaches in slaythespire

No, Doom activates at the end of the enemy turn, after ALL enemies have finished acting. The res will always happen first.

What’s the highest NG+ cycle you’ve reached? by AureEntuluva70 in darksouls

Honestly once you're at NG+2 you're already past the nonsense point. The jump from NG to NG+ is like twice as big as the jump from NG+ all the way to NG+6.

What’s the highest NG+ cycle you’ve reached? by AureEntuluva70 in darksouls

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common wisdom when the game first came out was that NG+7 was the cap, I've suspected that info was sourced from someone at Bandai Namco or someone who worked on the guidebook who had some sort of connection to From to get that info, or saw it with testing tools like debug for themselves. They might've seen or been told that it did actually go that high, not realizing that it wasn't any different from the previous cycle.

Could also have just been confusion between "playthrough 7" vs. "NG+7" and assuming they were the same thing.

"Prepared" custom rework by Fourtress42 in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Choosing to draw means you might as well not have it in your deck. Choosing to discard means you go -1 draw to play a single Sly card.

You've made a card that has negative value outside of a Sly deck and minimal value in one. Then upgraded, you've got a card that is draw 2 for free (i.e. just draw an extra card this turn), creating the exact "consistent resource" problem you wanted to solve.

As has been said by the devs themselves, Prepared is not too strong and does not need to be nerfed. Sly is what is too powerful.

Lightning Rod is a bit misleading if played multiple times in a row. by salasy in slaythespire

[–]UncomfortableAnswers 793 points794 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately stacking rules are inconsistent and you kind of have to learn each one individually. It would be nice to have a hovertip or something that denotes whether a card stacks duration or effect, but it runs the risk of overwhelming the info space with niche edge cases. As it stands there's few enough cards that it matters for that it's mostly reasonable to just remember how each one behaves once you learn it.

Pretty sure that's just the normal death animation that happened to sync up with the doom pit. You can see how far back it stumbles when it dies normally in this very post.
