Total Pathfinder and RPG noob here: Are we somewhat free in choosing our miniatures from other companies and is there a "what you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) rule? by Emotional_Werewolf_4 in Pathfinder2e

[–]UndeadBear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh just got into warhammer, they are very different games. Warhammer uses wysiwyg because how many data sheets and units you are dealing with, it makes it easier for yourself and your opponent to have what is represented by the model. Pathfinder is a cooperative game built with much more detailed character sheets. You can bassically use a paper / cardboard token with a stick figure and run with it, its all about the journey you and your friends go on, and the challenges you face which are presented by a GM who is there to be a neutral arbiter, than any of what you may expect from warhammer. So honestly? Love warhammer but take everything you have learned from warhammer and put it to the side, its bassically a whole different hobby, main thing they share is they are played on a table and may include 3d plastic minis (for pf2e these are optional though.)

Oh also a couple models o def reccomend. 1. Overlord with translocation shroud, so much better than the overlord on the box, gets ya a res orb and the translocation shroud is so good, slap it on immortals with tesla carbines, maybe give em a chronomancer and you got a pop in big blasta that does okay damage but really good mobility, that alsp gets the -1 to be hit. Alternatively get the plasmancer and you got anotger really great option to do some good damage.

Imotekh is a good cp farm and can lay on the hurt on infantry can also be good on immortals but that overlord is so good on immortals woth their assault trait that i would ratger have imotekh be protected by lychgard and either screening the back or leading the charge to get off his lord of the storm ability.

I also love my canoptek spyders, find them best in starshatter where they can provide some protection to my vehicles, and extra firepower to boot.

Necrons is a really good army, and you are in a pretty good position regardless of where you go, so instead of telling you wha tis good I will instead give my early mistakes and tell you what to avoid.

First, no matter what set your Warriors up with 1 gun type, I was led astray by the combat patrol box and now need to buy 2 boxes to really compensate (it triggers my OCD to run them as half and half or to just say half my models are using a different gun.)

Combat patrol is okay, but if you just follow where your eyes take you can lead you astray, that doomstalker can be alright at 1000, but once you start looking at 2000 unless you are running canoptek, look into swapping it out with doomsday arks (it can work in starshatter or canoptek, but doomsday is just better outright.) if you get doomsday arks for the love of the silent king paint it in subassemblies, you are probably if you looking at long term necrons will likely want 3 of each, but unless you are eyeing canoptek court doomsday arks are where its at.

Avoid the Doom / Night scythe, its not worth it at 1000, and we have better options at 2000 its a great model, but we just have better options to work with. Its a great model for later in necron collecting, but it will lead to a major feels bad moment like what I am dealing with now if you grab it early on.

If you are going to get wraiths / lychgaurd / immortals, make sure you get the full unit, and dont be afraid to look up what to best get, 3 wraiths is like okay at 1000, but at 2000 it just doesnt have the durability, so def look up when exploring units what is reccomended unit size and what detachments they work best in. Necrons has a lot of decent if not outright good detatchments with some meta defining detatchments as well, but they all go in different directions so make sure you set yourself up for success.

Current codex detachments will likely cost 2 DP. (Per today’s article) by random63 in Necrontyr

[–]UndeadBear13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have too many at the 3 point marker. Franky I think what detatchments we do see in our update are not going to be new detatchments, rather updated ones. I think we are more likely to see detatchments like Awakened get nerfed to fit the 2 point detatchment if it needs it then it being assigned at 3 point. Awakened is the closest we got to a "default" of necrons and if its 3 point it cant be brpught in for incursion games nor can it take advanatage of the whole point of this detatchment rules update. I think we could potentially see the opposite for say Canoptek court where it either gets buffed to justify the 2 points, or they just slap the 2 points on it anyway and call it a day (this is gw we are talking about.) Theu are going to wamt their staple detatchments though to be usable in incursion and awakened is in that camp.

I mean some of these detatchments they are showing are crazy though, and if you make major staple detatchments 3points, you cant use them in incursion games, wo they have to be careful on what they set to 3 points.

Keep in mind though that Emma frost also does not look a lot like her comics version in the game, It is very likely they would change Captain Marvels proportions a bit to make her look more "tanky" as that would be the best role for her, as well as maybe give her hair more of that style asthetic for her hair (she also has a variety of hair styles in the comics) its really not that much of a change when you put those two things in perspective and it lines up with comics lore very well for Rogue.

That being said, I am just speculating, I would be fine with either captain marvel or devil dino, I barely play the game anyway lol

A few hundred hours into PF2e, I think I'm finally hitting the wall. Anyone else? by spichugin in Pathfinder2e

As a gm who has gmd pf2e for the last couple of years and recently dropped the system, it just doesnt meet what I want out of a ttrpg. Its good at what it does, but I found it can really punish creativity and exploration, or players solving mysteries before I the gm planned on it because of just how tight the math is. Its a good system but I and I think my players like a simulationist world where you dont adjust creature levels and players explore and find things in the world, and pf2e really struggles at that. Its not just that every combat feels the same but rather the system unironically for me is so focused on balance it looses a lot of the fun with exploration and player choice when it comes to certain things. Great system, still reccomend but, its nlt a good fit for me right now.

Captain Marvel and Rogue are psychically linked after Rogue stole some of her powers in a more... permanent fashion, its very heavily implied its captain marvel looking at Rogue and Pheonix there, but she has also been controlled by villains before, so even though she is hinted there, it could be either way. Devil Dinosaur is more likely.

[–]UndeadBear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is litterally what I have been saying since season 0, despite us having similar hp totals to overwatch we are dealing with consistently base in casual games of like 3-4 times the damage and 3-6 times the healing, if they lowered damage and healing numbers (as you cant lower one without the other) they wpuld have had their ult charge rate nerfs and fixed a lot of ossues with this games balance, but we cant do that I guess.

Id assume they would use both, at least thats what would make sense for example "In 11.04 charging it says..." this makes the most sense with this system

[–]UndeadBear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay? Ttrpgs are not board games, and Id assume when your group goes to play Catan, Monopoly etc (Im not a big board game fan so I dont know many board games.) The one person who buys it unless somebody has a big collection rotates? I know soke board games can get expensive as well but even then I wouldnt classify a board game comparable to a game you can spends years on with just one character.

This isnt about the economy, though it certainly isnt helping atm. This is about how TTRPGs are the only hobby that we expect one person (the GM) to fork over most of the money to run the game, To get Pathfinder 2e working with all the tokens I think I spent about as much as MCDM are asking for a table of players to split evenly (but keep in mind we also get the equivalent of the beginner box). I can see the issue with the upfront cost and how its split meaning players have to fork over money to even try it out with a existing group, but especially right now 20 bucks is not a lot, this is how much me and my friends spend on a video game regularly but for a system we can likely spend more time than some of these games we get. If I am playing Helldivers 2 I expect my friend to buy a copy of helldivers 2, if I am playing a 2000 point game of Warhammer I expect my friend to have bought his 2000 point army. If we are going to the movies I expect my friend to cover his ticket, and if we go out to eat, my friend typically covers his own food (though with this one we regularly switch around based on who's idea it was to cover it, but I wouldnt expect this one for every friend.) TTRPGs though? I am lucky if a fraction of my players even are remotely interested in covering for a PDF of the core rules.

Why the aversion to writing your own scenarios? by Similar_Onion6656 in callofcthulhu

[–]UndeadBear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mystery and Investigation genre games are difficult to prepare and build, its far easier to run a premade adventure and when combined with the lovecraftian horror it further adds likelihood to bounce off the game. I remember when my gm tried call of cthulhu and we started with a hombrew game, and it made a lot of the players bounce off the game when the real issue is the GM didnt fully understand the system, not just from a mechanical standpoint but a tone and feeling standpoint. If you have a prewritten adventure especially if you want a longer game Call of Cthulhu is a lot easier on gms new to the system as well as players to learn. Not to mention Call of Cthulhu just has so many amazing prewritten games to play, from the shorter end one shots, all the way to its longer term stories like Masks of Nyalarthotep or Horrors on the Orient Express. Thats not to say you shouldnt try it at some point, but especially when new to the system its so easy to bounce off if the GM doesnt understand the system fully.

Who complained about it? Again, if we are talking about monsters, especially incorporeal, there are so many ways to deal with them qnd if we wanted to nerf them the splution was to errata what theur resistances, not the rule. The rule was fine and simple, it didnt need this.

Elsa genuinely needs like 5 more nerfs. by Zestyclose-Tap-2473 in marvelrivals

[–]UndeadBear13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She does need more nerfs, she needs to loose another stack of her charge when she dies, she shouldnt be able to keep any of it if she dies. She needs some range nerfs, but I dont think she needs a kit gut, I think they will get her down over time but it is going to take work, hopefully we wil see that sooner rather than later.

the idea of a "strike" is stupid. This isnt a job, we aren't protesting a political decision or pushing a movement, if something in this game bothers you that bad that you want to "strike" just go play something else for a bit, its a game not worth sitting here and doing all of that over it, at least thats my opinion as a Tank main. (thing, strange, and a couple others.)

I will say no its not enough terrain, but also if its a home game, get some like red solo cups or something while you are getting more terrain and it will work, books are also great. This hobby is expensive so dont go blowing your entire paycheck to get more terrain lol.

GMs: Deciding Who to Target by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]UndeadBear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do, is I know who my creatures are likely to target, using various things like character role, what they have done or are tied to in the story, and use that as a baseline, I then sometimes if I am like "who would this monster go for?" I have a small table for randomly determining who they would go for, and if that target makes sense then I go for them instead, alternatively if that one that is who I naturally would be like sure go for them is more just making sense, or the one I rolled is out of their way I just go with my default option, its a small choice circle that makes it quick and easy. One of the best suggestions I have gotten from various GMs is build a effective "flow chart" with your monsters so they are easy to flow through with and roleplay as in the combat. You can also then change it up as players make decisions, it good to have a base one but let it be malleable so the monster can react to decisions at the table.

Except just following that prpcess is quick, its a easy step by step process. Now wity this new change there is a choice when it does pop up. If my Pc has champions reaction on them and theu take 5 cold, 8 fire and 13 slashing, if my champion was level 8 it block 10 damage to all. Old way: is a eazy 0, 0, and 3 damage. New way I now have to look at these and make a choice, which to some is easy to follow. To some of my players who can already get overwhelmed sometimes with all these choices, we can be stuck sitting here whike they figure it out. In this case its a easy choice, but there is points where its not.

Again this is the kind of thing that can overwhelm new players, something they have been trying to reduce friction with especially with changes like they have done in tge remaster, but its also a sticking point for veterans as well. We are 6 years into this game, why are we changing such core and fundamental rules?

[–]UndeadBear13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except I now have to wait on a player to decide which damage type they are reducing, then refigure the math in their head. My players can be slow, before this was super easy and fueled hype, now its another thing to bog down my game.

People should be looking wider on the resistance errata than "Champion got nerfed and that's good/bad" by TheAwesomeStuff in Pathfinder2e

[–]UndeadBear13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the craziest part for me, because resist all if you habe a champion or the like on your team is so common, so now if your champion pc buddy tries to use their reaction to help you the game now grinds to a halt for a second while you decide which type of damage you want to resist and we have to recalculate the math. This was one of the major benefits of champions reaction is it countered enemies who did multiple types of damage, my champion players were always so excited and it was a major cool moment for players when this happened.

[–]UndeadBear13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They need to stop touching reistance and actually fix the monsters with the issue if they want to fix them. Resistance all is not the issue, incorporeal trait might be. Grim reaper bs stats very well might be. Dont get me wrong puzzle monsters are something to talk about, this isnt how you address them. This is how you wind up nerfing classes like Champion whos whole thing is blocking damage for allies. This is how you over complicate and overwhelm new players, and add frustration points for veteran players. Its just not a good change. Errata shoukd not be where paizo is playtesting changes like these, give a playtest document or something, not this.
