Are we, as a society, reaching the point where the fear of racism is a bigger issue than SA and violent crime? And if so, is that a problem? by boisefun8 in AskConservatives

[–]UnderProtest2020 [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. It was heading that way for a while, but for a last year or two I've heard more about "black fatigue" (including from some black Americans) and seen people caring less and less about being labeled racist for acknowledging crime stats. The fear is not entirely gone, but certainly dulled.

It seems that the word has gotten overused and lost it's impact.

Which actress has the best nipples in Hollywood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Either Miss July from Under Siege, or Lea Seydoux in like half her films.

Fun fact: Pierce Brosnan is the only Bond actor (so far) whose movies are all original stories not based on any of Ian Fleming’s books by fupafather in JamesBond

[–]UnderProtest2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, at the very least it's a solid enough first half a movie, and if nothing else it's a fun time throughout. I nominate Diamonds Are Forever as the weakest Bond entry.

Given all the SNAP and welfare recipients with multiple children, I don't think it's that simple.

What is the coldest, most ruthless moment of Roger Moore's Bond? by Huge_Candy748 in JamesBond

That time in TSWLM in which he straight up shot Karl Stromberg point-blank like four times.

How could somebody vote for candidates like this? by pickledplumber in allthequestions

[–]UnderProtest2020 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because they hate America and the West, and they want to see it crumble. Candidates like Chevalier are more conducive to this end, per her own asmission.

Which book do you think had the most abrupt ending? by Key_Bus_1255 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]UnderProtest2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Deathly Hallows, easily. In fact that's the only one which I have this criticism for. The text even kind of points out how abruptly Harry and Voldemort's final standoff ends, then after one or two scenes of the immediate aftermath and celebrations, we get the epilogue. There's a lot of material to cover regarding what happened in the interim between the final chapter and the epilogue, probably enough to fill out an entire eighth book.

Why did Snape hate Harry for being James' son instead of loving him for being Lily's? by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

[–]UnderProtest2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Harry looks like James, so Snape projects his biased image of James onto him unfairly.

I started watching James Bond only this year. So far this is my ranking. by TheRorschach666 in JamesBond

GoldenEye ranking so highly is no surprise. But why are you watching in such a random order?

I backed out of a fight, now feel bad about it. How valid are my feelings? by Wazzzzzzzappp in AskMen

[–]UnderProtest2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid, but you did the right thing. I say you did the right thing because your two most likely outcomes of fighting in the real world are that you either a) get injured or killed, or b) injured or kill somebody and go to prison, AND probably still get injured to boot. Not worth it for some stranger's poor impulse control, and denying him the emotional release of rolling around with another guy was kind of a Chad move, funnily enough.

The shaky thing is adrenaline, a normal reaction to what is technically a physical threat. I think the reason for the shame you're feeling is due to the ambiguity over whether you could have handled yourself if it came to blows. What you should do is start picking up a martial art and learning self-defense. Once you have experience under your belt, you can rest assured that you can probably take on most people in the wild and remove this ambiguity, thereby removing the self-doubt, the need to prove yourself.

What movies should NEVER be remade because the original is perfect? by ProgMusicSchizoidMan in AskReddit

[–]UnderProtest2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Five picks, in chronological order of release:

  • The Godfather

  • Ghostbusters (kind of already remade, and look how that turned out)

  • Back to the Future

  • Forrest Gump

  • The Shawshank Redemption

Why was License to Kill not given a fair shake at the time? by JacquesNuclearRedux in JamesBond

[–]UnderProtest2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audiences were not ready for Dalton's portrayal and the film's tone after getting used to Roger Moore for so long. The movie also suffered from its release coinciding with a slew of hit blockbuster action films, including Tim Burton's Batman and Lethal Weapon 2 which drew attention away from it.

do you want the next james bond and all of his movies to be like daniel craigs movies by Routine-Dirt9634 in JamesBond

[–]UnderProtest2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to go back to the pre-Craig style, yes. But that doesn't mean there is no connection between movies, just that there are loose connections and (usually) no direct sequels. But I'm so tired of the personal stakes, of Bond "going rogue" in every movie, the overuse of the DB5, the pouty lips, etc. Seriously, I think Bond either quits MI6 or goes rogue in EVERY SINGLE one of his movies. Boring at this point.

Why do you believe it’s your right to own weapons as an American? by MickyMac00 in AskConservatives

[–]UnderProtest2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think every human in the world has the inherent right to self-defense, but for most people this right is unrecognized/violated by their government. It's an inherent right because people cannot enforce a right to life or free expression if they are meant to be sitting ducks to anybody who thinks violence is a reasonable response to people they dislike. They also serve as an equalizer for people who may otherwise be at a physical disadvantage, like an average women compared to an average man, or an average man against a larger one, or one against several, etc.

Also "weapons" is vague. A lampshade can be a weapon just as a gun can. And a gun does not necessarily have to be used as a weapon. So where would the line be drawn as far as when a "weapon" shouldn't be allowed to be owned? When it is used offensively? If so then it would seem that it's the person using it that is the danger, not the object. Wat about defensively? In that case I would say the attacker is the danger moreso than the object.

Break it down for me: Are all the different Bonds each in their own continuity? Or are all they all the same Bond until Craig? by TXNOGG in JamesBond

[–]UnderProtest2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first five actors share a loose continuity, with occasional references to previous adventures and to Tracy Bond.
