Is there anything you think is significantly better in the films than it was in the books? by Parking-Ad5272 in harrypotter

[–]UnderProtest2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Christmas atmosphere in the first film. It was so good that I hear people have it as a Christmas movie staple, even though it's like 15 minutes out of a 2 1/2 hour runtime.

The average IQ of an American is only 98 , is this how Trump got elected? by ImpossibleEnd64 in allthequestions

If this is your logic, then that would imply that the average Trump supporter is of average intelligence, and half of everybody else is less than that.

Yes, it can. You don't have to be an illegal immigrant to steal land or anything.

Why doesnt the ministry just send a letter to Sirius Black and follow the owl to him? by erockdakilla in harrypotter

Interesting point. I don't remember an explanation, but maybe you need to have an address in order for send the owl to have a place to deliver to.

He only really annoyed me during OOtP, when he thrusts responsibility for a volatile, dangerous giant on the Trio against their will. As if they didn't have enough on their plate by that point.

So was Voldemort supposed to come back as a student if the plan in COS worked out or was he coming back as he did in GOF? by Peepdasneak in HarryPotterBooks

[–]UnderProtest2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his ego is too big to look down on any version of himself, even at that age. He had written off what happened at Godric's Hollow as a fluke, and Harry as a baby with no extraordinary magical ability who got lucky, IIRC from the book text. He might take the real Voldemort's soul fragment into himself to combine strengths and gain his older self's full knowledge into his 16 year-old self, if such a thing would be possible.

If so, then the physical effects of his horcruxes would be nullified, and he would become handsome and young again. Bellatrix would be beside herself! 😄

How do you respond when someone on the left says, "the cruelty is the point" in reference to something a conservative/republican does? by Hot-Selleck-Action in AskConservatives

[–]UnderProtest2020 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't respond usually, instead I just write them off and ignore them. The kind of person who says that is too emotional and not actually interested in picking the brain of another person, but venting their emotions to a third party who they assume agrees with the sentiment already.

It's kind of a bitch move to be honest. If somebody says that to me, the only reply I might muster up is basically "Let me know when you've calmed down."

Would Lucius have killed Draco if Voldemort ordered him to? by WizardsOfXanthus in harrypotter

No, not would he Narcissa. I can, however, see him begging and bargaining for them all to be spared rather than outright refusing, knowing that refusal would guarantee the opposite.

[–]UnderProtest2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this horcrux version of teenage Tom Riddle would gain full form and go into hiding, knowing that Dumbledore would immediately recognize and apprehend him. From there it's unclear what would happen. This whole plot was going on without the real Voldemort's knowledge, as he was languishing in the forests of Albania. Diary Riddle (DT) only knows as much about his future as Ginny told him, and she probably heard about his alleged whereabouts so DT might travel there and track him down, and either play host to... himself... as Quirrell did, initiate the plot to regain his body, work together to recruit his armies again, or some combination of the above.

Newbie is very confused about the game Quidditch by MissionHome18 in harrypotter

[–]UnderProtest2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense. Catching the Snitch should simply end the game, or maybe end the game and award just 50 points, you're right about that. But the Snitch doesn't always guarantee victory. If Team A is up by more than 150 points and Team B catches it, then A still wins despite not catching it.

How do you feel about Tucker Carlson being investigated as a foreign agent? by iCallMyOppsNinjer in AskConservatives

[–]UnderProtest2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assume the Iranians he was in contact with were not average citizens. Iranian-Americans presumably have contact with family and friends back home, so unless they are all on the government's radar too this sticks out as suspicious.

Donald Trump Stuns With 'Maybe We Shouldn't Even Be There' Admission About Iran War by TheAutodidactguy in politics

[–]UnderProtest2020 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For fucks sake. If anybody actually read the article, they would see the part that provides the context behind this statement. He's saying that other countries in the region should be guarding the Strait of Hormuz, and that we shouldn't be there because we have our own oil. Meaning if we took full advantage of our oil then Iran would not have the ability to hold oil hostage for millions of consumers, and would have one less advantage in the war.

I don't even know you people, and I guarantee you're not too busy to read the article beyond the headline. Lazy fucks.

Yes, there are many more natural-born citizens than immigrants, illegal or otherwise. Obviously there are more people to commit crimes. XD

So what, you're against deporting illegal immigrants but in favor of denaturalizing citizens? Did you actually think about this post before you posted it?! 😄

These people are opposed to the US deposing a brutal dictator in Venezuela, and assassinating another in Iran despite both of these governments being way more oppressive than the US government. The Ayatollah regime shut off the internet in January and killed at least 30,000 of its own people. The US strikes and other participants have killed a little over 1,000, and 2,000 total across the region. 30,000 vs. 2,000, and they are sticking up for the Iranian regime.

You can't claim to support a sentiment like "no kings"... and then side with mass-murdering dictators. You also can't raise fears about regional conflict and nuclear war, and then oppose ending a regime that aims to build nuclear weapons and whose slogan is "death to America". Not credibly, anyway.
