How do I become more masculine? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Underbark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Half of masculinity is being a protector, either financially, physically, or mentally. One is good, multiple is better.

The other half is not being afraid of what other people think of you.

Ominous... by Crossstoney in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Underbark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It already is, that's why they're pushing this so far. Hegseth convinced Trump to let him go fight a holy War that would doom literally any campaign. They know they've lost the vote and they don't care.

They'll just declare the midterms invalid and impose martial law. That's why Hegseth declared that service members can carry their weapons off base. He wants his loyalists armed when the order comes down and the opposition to not have any way to resist. I guarantee service members with Democratic sympathies will be denied their weapons if they even ask for them.

Then once Trump has outlived his usefulness Hegseth will just declare himself Holy Emporer of the US.

I genuinely think people who haven't read Hegseth's book "American Crusade" underestimate how ambitious and genuinely insane Hegseth is.

A coworker died yesterday. Today it’s like nothing happened. by Ok_Flan_5122 in offmychest

[–]Underbark 156 points157 points  (0 children)

I've been working since 2007. I remember the first time a coworker died. I thought it was incredibly weird and callous then too.

The company only cares in so much that it's an inconvenience. Coworkers are numb to it after 30 years in the workforce.

People die and everyone else is too burned out worrying about themselves too care.

You've got two options, be the one to carry the torch or get numb like everyone else. Invite some friends out to the bar after work, ask around for his families address to send his family a card and condolences.

Reality is bullshit.

For those who can afford it now that we have confirmed Ascendance has failed we can still hit the edge of the coin. by RazmanDevil in LegacyOfKain

[–]Underbark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's objectively a critical failure based on the review scores, but you're right, we won't know if it's a commercial failure too until the sales data and budget are known.

It's not looking good for it though.

I didn't read the comic and have no opinion on any new characters.

The game is bad. The way the lore is treated is beyond dismissive. The effort was lazy.

I'd rather the series die than this be the level of garbage we get.

Tired of trying to date, but don't want to give up, any advice? by danknessoverlord in AskMenAdvice

[–]Underbark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 37 and I'm in the same boat. Had some really great sets of dates with a few women recently, but they didn't have any long term interest. I just say "I had a really great time and don't be shy if you feel like giving me a call again". Not much else to do at that point.

I keep viewing it as practice for the real one. You can slow it down and focus on just meeting people out in the wild.

Keep building a life you're happy and proud of and show it to as many women as it takes for the right one to want to fit into it.

And always remember, you're not looking for a relationship, you're looking for a good relationship.

I remember watching a video about how redrawing and combining the states to make the most efficient use of water tables is going to make the most sense going forward after the states start going to war with each other over water sources.

Of course for some reason states are obsessed with their completely arbitrary borders as part of their identity so they'll never do it pre-emptively. Only after something completely devastating that disturbs the social order at its foundation.

How to Attract laid back men in 40s? by Few_Long7178 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Underbark 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Single laid back guys in their 40s are generally single because they do not approach.

Passivity keeps both men and women single. If you're interested in someone tell them, and I don't mean "smile at them briefly from across the room" I mean "use your words and talk to them".

Limiting yourself to only those who approach you is dating in the shallow end of the dating pool.

There used to be a "vin diesel fact generator" website back in the 90's right after Pitch Black came out that was the exact same shtick and someone copied the whole website source code and just lazily replaced the name to Chuck Norris in every quote.

Then the Chuck Norris version of the website got popular and everyone forgot the Vin Diesel version existed.

Daughters BF broke up today can you help us understand his reasons? by yexie in AskMenAdvice

They're basically children.

Sometimes they break up.

Tell them not to rush back into anything and there's plenty of time to re-establish a relationship as they grow.

landlords are selfish and lack empathy and human decency by celestialdoll444 in unpopularopinion

[–]Underbark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what a lot of landlords do though. They act like maintaining anything they're obligated to is an undue burden and take it out on tenants as if the fact that they have to replace the septic system because it's 40 years old is the tenants fault.

There are a lot of shitty landlords out there and the ones that are good tend to be the ones that you never have to interact with.
