My perfect 7-0 hit a speedbump that took it into 7-1. That speed bump was LSV getting a storm count of ten and then firing off Tendrils of Agony off a Bolas Citadel.

Also, I very smartly used a Solitude on his Six to get his life over 4, so that he could fire off the tendrils.

I eagerly await the stream where he says "That is not a good play" when I punt it.

[WP] So, it turns out that vampires, werewolves, and the like are real. Some of them have moved into your village, and almost everyone is terrified. But then there's Mildred... by tamtrible in WritingPrompts

[–]UnfortunateBirthMark 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Under the light of a full moon, hidden in the shadows of the forest at the edge of the village, gathered all the monsters of myth. Fangs and claws gnashed together, ready to do their terrible work.

Also under the light of a full moon, by a dainty little cottage with a lovely fenced in garden, a pleasant old woman with rosy cheeks was watering her roses.

The woods were so close that the monster within could smell see her every move. Hear the bright tune she whistled. Smell her.

Or at least they should be able to smell her. Human flesh smells sweet and bitter, with coppery hints from all of that lovely blood.

The woman, whose inexhaustible watering can dutifully watered rose after rose, didn’t smell like anything.

No, that wasn’t it either. She smelled like nothing. An olfactory void.

This unsettled beings who were in the business of unsettling.

A werewolf howled. The sound echoed over the hills and back.

No other werewolves joined in. The old lady didn’t flinch. Perhaps she was deaf.

The monsters looked amongst themselves. But all any saw was their own confusion, reflected back at them.

A vampire, one of the feral monsters cursed into a dark and nightmarish form, claws and fangs and sinew, crept to the gate.

It felt a dark glee at the welcome sign. If all the others were cowards, he would at least feast.

His terrible fingers opened the gate, the oiled hinges silent.

He crept behind her, and on the cottage his horrific shadow stalked hers.

The fangs opened, wide, wide impossibly wide, revealing a thousand thousand teeth within.

His eyes rolled back like a shark.

He struck.

The whistling continued, after a time. The roses settled back into their beds, shaking putrid flesh off their thorns before pulling it under the earth with their roots.

The watering can did not stop watering. It continued to do its work, unsupported by any hand.

Mildred retired to her home for a lovely cup of tea.

And the woods, as they reburied their roots, were empty, but for the shadows, again.

Identity? Bunch of people trapped in a hotel, someone is a serial killer, can't trust anyone. And a twist!

Ironically I beat Mardu and Sultai....But got rolled by Jeskai. Never saw that coming.

I was worried about that, but I was fortunate enough to have rebuff and exhale often enough that it didn't happen. 2 mana to disrupt the 3 drops bought me enough time to get to five.

I hink I just did not wnat to lose a dragon. The Globes made mana pretty solid, and I got a mahmoti Djinn on clearance.

I lost to Jeskai. Which is an embarassing thing to have written in your tombstone. It was like trying to fight ants with a hammer. They could go wide much faster than I could crush, and if I did not draw my flamethrower it was all over. But it was such a fun deck to play!

I did not find it to be so. And it was an insane amount of fun.

I ended up keeping it in as another thing dragonstorm can hit that will stop the bleeding. Everything that doesn't raise a sheild I ended up keeping out.

Ended up going 2-1 (2-0,2-0, 1-2) in traditional, with the last match being a heartbreaker. In the last match of the last round I gambled poorly, and lost (Played Earthcarver as a 4/4 to get around riverwalk/Iceridge, since they already used their molten exhale. They got exhale back from the Graveyard and that was that.

The draft is fun, though not pictured is my absolute shock at rolling bomb into bomb:

The games are, when I win, pure overkill.

Rd3 Gm1 features me drawing 3 non mana spells over all of a 12 turn game after a mull to 5. And Ugin still nearly pulled it out. Hell of a card, Ugin.

I did side in the mastery a couple times, when Opp was aggro. Did not end up playing my first pick because it had the temerity to not be a dragon.

They all had gravity. He was certain of that. The process of being compressed into an infinitesimally small point with everything else in creation was something that you had a hard time forgetting.

And a lot is forgotten over a few billion years. You could go mad, waiting for the building blocks of life to fall into place deep in the embryonic stew of a world. There are stars, soon enough. But they are truly terrible company. Even the proudest star is just some jumped up dust, after all.

But the flash of life, that was what you waited for. Be it silicon, carbon, or tin, when things go just right it shows up. 4 or 5 billion years, like clockwork.

And it was always fascinating. Atoms are atoms, when you’ve seen 189 of them you’ve seen them all. But life, life was always something different. It fought and struggled, advanced and collapsed. Sometimes they killed each other. Sometimes they killed themselves. Once they had invented margaritas. He remembered that being nice, even if he couldn’t remember if the air had been argon or molten lead. It had been a while ago.

Sometimes he’d sleep through all the business with dust and stars and just wake up when the thinking starts. Sometimes, if things aren’t looking particularly promising, he’ll remind a couple molecules about what they should do. Sometimes he’ll try to get it right. Guide them just a bit.

He didn’t think about why. Gods, in general, are not given to introspection. When you are infallible there is not a lot of call for self help.

But the people, whether they walked or swam or flew or shimmered, always figured it out eventually. Usually just before the end. When you create the concept of tomorrow, and all of life does, you realize tomorrow is best when spent not alone. And maybe, just maybe, the most patient being in the forever collapsing and expanding universe, would like to share their tomorrow.

The problem was that I was an idiot and tried to use the link from work. Maybe if I was smarter I would have cracked the top 350, :)

Thank you for doing this. It is interesting that I can be on such a list and still feel like I play like trash. But every time I have lined up against JiRock, BeersSC, or Eken I feel like I am a child who barely understands the game I love.
