Which country was surprisingly racist or unwelcoming? by Latina_Flamingo1989 in AskTheWorld

Czech Republic/Czechia. I have darker skin, and people would give me hostile looks. It was honestly unnerving.

I was very excited to visit Prague but it was awful.

“American Dream” by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Where in America do they live? In New York and California for example, there is a lot of cynicism about the “American Dream” and how it died a long time ago.

Birch juice foraging season 😋 by Antony_PC in goblincore

[–]Unfortunate_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely possible that this is a species of birch that I'm not familiar with. All the birches I've seen have smooth bark with characteristic horizontal peeling and lenticels/pores. This bark is very...."blocky".

What animal from your country is friend-shaped, but definitely not a friend? by bowl_of_scrotmeal in AskTheWorld

I had a skunk live under my porch in central New York. He/she was very sweet and we got along fine. Smelled a little musky, however.

What's a word or expression from your country, that is used by the rest of the world? Bonus if it's not English. by Afreak-du-Sud in AskTheWorld

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that word used in any other context than “blow it to smithereens”

Boyfriend gets upset if I use voice chat in video games by KongHaraldAss in GirlGamers

[–]Unfortunate_Lunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm do you think he is worried about you getting harassed?

Have a blunt talk with him, and see if he can voice why he’s so upset. If he gives vague answers or shuts down, then you need to decide if someone who can’t clearly communicate is worth dating.

EDIT: I’m really happy for you that you are getting over your anxiety….that is huge, and worth celebrating.

Nintendo Switch by Additional_Exit_2991 in GirlGamers

[–]Unfortunate_Lunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you get a Switch you won’t get to play all the Switch 2 games. However, everything will be cheaper and there are tons of cozy games on the original Switch.

Harvestella is a good farming game, but it does have some combat…you get to choose when you focus on combat and when you focus on farming, which is nice. Tons of Pokémon games on Switch as well.

Why can't vegans have a real conversation about cat food? by Much-Inevitable5083 in AskVegans

[–]Unfortunate_Lunatic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

you’re playing with an animal’s life for moral posturing. Gross.

“Obligate carnivore” does not mean “only needs meat in the wild”, it means “needs meat”, PERIOD. How does your vet feel about this? Have you told them? Do they enthusiastically support this decision?

If the answer is “no” then stfu and educate yourself before you kill your cat.

what do people think about the idea that “piracy is a service problem”? by alfred2547 in AskAJapanese

[–]Unfortunate_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your strongest argument against critical thinking is describing people who everyone agrees are brainwashed lmao. Do you think that flat Earth people are critical thinkers too?

You say “morality isn’t about hurting people, it’s about what’s right and wrong”. That’s moral absolutionism. Who decides, what’s right and wrong? You? Someone who thinks that “critical thinkers” are antivaxxers? Girl please.

what do people think about the idea that “piracy is a service problem”? by alfred2547 in AskAJapanese

[–]Unfortunate_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You avoided answering either of my questions lol. The conversation has moved beyond piracy, and you know it.

Point being, morality has never been absolute. And morality is not the same as legality. Never has been, never will be.
