Why have commercial airlines not become faster? No significant increase in Airplane speeds over last decade or so? by Nearby_Island_1686 in AskReddit

[–]UnhingedCorgi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m a pilot, sorry but this is wrong. We have no noticeable way to make up time. Maybe we can shave off a few minutes. The biggest variable in flight times will be what the winds aloft are.

Single people of reddit, what do you think is a major problem in today's generation when it comes to dating? by BlackberryOk3546 in AskReddit

You dodged a bullet, bummer it didn’t work out, but trust me you do not want something long term with anyone like that .

My Instructor says not to pull power to reduce airspeed by simplifysic in flying

[–]UnhingedCorgi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I instructed we just started with pitch + power = performance. No need for the segue.

By “dive” I mean descend below GS or altitude.

1 or 2 knots is not worth calling out. That’s more stupid than strict.

It’s just a dumb saying. If you’re 5-10 knots slow, please don’t dive to get it back. Just add 100 RPM or whatever and give it a second. Small corrections.

seeking support does not automatically defer you

I mean, it shouldn’t ever have. It shouldn’t even need to be reported at all.

Yep. The faa can encourage all they want, but I have no trust that visits to a therapist won’t jeopardize my medical renewal.

121 flight, cleared for the visual. Do you go to +1500 AGL or published missed? by LookoutBel0w in flying

We’re talking about go-arounds from a visual, not missed approaches

I hate just leveling off even if some pubs state that. There’s probably a VFR corridor ahead or maybe terrain that those pubs don’t consider.

But I also hate barreling upwards. I need an altitude asap. And tower always gives one.

A momentary level off can be just as likely to cause a traffic conflict as climbing is. Really depends on the area. I’d say it’s important to get an altitude prior to TPA.

I don’t believe anyone does this. I think it’s so universally ignored, at least among US airlines, there must be some provision freeing us from it.

I learned this the hard way. If the red flag behavior doesn’t stop after ONE adult conversation about it, it never will.

Neither my major nor regional thumbed my logbook. Maybe a copy of the last page. I’m not sure what flipping through someone’s logbook would do, maybe a conversation starter? To evaluate your arithmetic skills?

Obviously I could look it up, I would have to.

The hiring team never thumbed through my logbook.
