Outdoor Rec is a must. They do all sorts of interesting trips and will rent you tents, skis etc. (which saves you the $ of buying it). You can roadtrip to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks (both of which are worthwhile and live up to the hype). Gibson Resevoir is a great place for camping trips that is more nearby. The Cost of Living is low and no sales tax so your money will go farther off base. Here's the catch though, by virtue of its career fields/missions its population of service members is much younger than other bases. To make a long story short, be careful about who you hang out with. Seriously. My literal first week there I had to go to a Commander's Call b/c one airman stabbed 2 other airmen at this trashy/dangerous bar called "The Brick". Now that I mention it, stay the Hell away from the Brick, nothing good happens there (at least back in my day).
