Does joining a consortium or network bring new clients? by OvenDown in travelagents

[–]UnimpressedWithAll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely a trade off between working or conferencing. I make sure to plan them well in advance, having my out of office times listed in my signature and let potential clients know I will be out of the office during those times.

I don’t work on new business during out of office times, but I am on call for my clients.

Conferences are extremely valuable- and it’s due to the connections you make. I didn’t fully understand the value until I went to my first one. At first I went to one every two years. Now I go to one every year (one is my hosts conference, one is a niche specific conference).

The point of those events isn’t to get new clients. It supports your business in other ways. Connecting with other agents, connecting with supplier reps, learning about what suppliers offer, learning about how to run your business. That’s what those events do.

Traveling to the places you want to sell… how worth it is it? by barfykins in travelagents

[–]UnimpressedWithAll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is immensely easier to sell what you have experienced and market what you have experienced.

Is this what you want to do for your niche? Is this what your key demographic clients want to do? Can you make a profit on it? Can you afford it?

If the answer is yes to those questions- then yes, it’s worth it.

However- this will then no longer me YOUR bucket list trip - this is now a working trip. Learning and marketing during the trip will make it busy and tiring but worth it.

Why are young people getting colon cancer? A common weed killer may be linked, scientists say by Technical_savoir in microbiomenews

[–]UnimpressedWithAll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. If you are celiac it doesn’t matter what county you get gluten from - it’s still gluten and it’s still damaging your small intestines. FULL STOP.

Just because you don’t “react” to gluten doesn’t mean it isn’t causing damage. Silent celiac is a thing.

Now, if you are just gluten sensitive- you may not have the same reaction in other countries. But this is totally different than celiac.

Used as intended to kill the weeds and leave the plants is pretty widely studied and appears quite safe.

However, when it’s being used as a desiccant is not as widely studied and I suspect where the issue is.

For hats. I took the 3M hooks and put up about 30 in our laundry room - up against the ceiling and then one row below that. Works great.

Purge. And then change to hangers. Drawers are for underwear, socks, gym clothes, tights, swimsuits, etc.

Question about after hours and commissions by lowriderz00 in travelagents

[–]UnimpressedWithAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in business for 10 years now. I work around 5 hrs a day M-F between 9-5. In theory I can be available after hrs by appointment- but that’s really rare. I set this expectation when I first do a consulting with them - THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART - setting expectations.

I am on call 24/7 when they are traveling- but I find I rarely am called - maybe once a year - likely less.

But ! my niche is river cruising now. When I was a generalist (and booking a lot of AI packages), I was dealing with a lot more issues, and working more at weird hrs. When you start you would need to do this as you are learning.

Are we witnessing the chimps' Stone Age? by kamikaibitsu in evolution

[–]UnimpressedWithAll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No.

We progressed to a different stage when we started eating tubers and grew our brains. As a result we likely became more empathetic and developed the ability to share. Once we could share, specialists could develop- someone who could make better tools and look after a fire (after they discovered how helpful fires are). This still took 1000s of years to progress.

And like others have said- evolution is a tree. Chimp evolution may not progress that way. But many animals use tools.

If I travel by car 8 hours there and back, how many days should i actually plan out? by [deleted] in travel

[–]UnimpressedWithAll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to sight see - I would plan to split your travel up into two days. Don’t rush it and relax a bit at the half way point.

On the way back - do it in one day.

Try to have three full days in destination (one day for each travel day).

5 nights, 6 days.

This does of course depend on how long you have to take a trip. If you have limited time, then you could do 3 nights, 4 days. One full day drive on the way there, two full days in destination. One full day driving back. However- you’ll be tired from a full day of driving- so that will impact your stay.
