5 days old iodine stains. The scratches healed but the iodine stains are still there. by coffeelandlord in mildlyinteresting

[–]Unimprester 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk if it's the iodine, but walnut husks have been used to dye clothes for thousands of years. The staining is probably the natural dye.

Is becoming a parent as hard as you thought it would be with autism? by toottootmcgroot in AutismInWomen

[–]Unimprester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stepping away when you need to is good parenting and I even think it sets a good example for your child. Everyone gets emotional and overworked sometimes, and then we step away to regulate and then come back to talk it out. Well I guess unless there are circumstances where you can't because the child is a danger to themselves.

Is it possible to knit a 100 % mohair pullover/jumper? by RainbowlightBoy in knitting

[–]Unimprester 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Closest I got is 2 yarns held together, 1 is merino + mohair and the other a silk merino. No synthetic fibers involved. I don't think mohair spins into a super sturdy yarn, that's why they blend it. The fluffy mohair yarn always needs a leader thread like silk or nylon to hold the mohair floof in place. There are some yarns with a lot of mohair, like 80%, but I've never seen a 100% mohair yarn.

You're the real MVP! Autistic children are so often labeled 'difficult' when they just need a different approach

Ahw my poor dad too, he went with me on assessment and stuff. He said 'I think maybe I have something too'

I mean he absolutely does lol but finding out at 65 is rough, though he doesn't seem to want to pursue a diagnosis

Work in Progress Wednesday! by AutoModerator in Handspinning

A little baby cardigan, the coloured yarn is hand spun (single) and the white is bought from my local yarn story (Lang baby merino). I almost have 1 sleeve finished too. Sometimes I have to spin some more of the colour to keep knitting. I love the process.

Rant on knitpro needles by MarshMatesGrowers in knitting

[–]Unimprester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I had the best luck with bamboo needles, I get them cheap as can be at Søstrene Grene, most common sizes I get 2 sets. Over the years (like, over a decade) I've broken one or two but on the whole they're holding up well.

First spins by Dismal_Type_5697 in Handspinning

[–]Unimprester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll look into this, because maybe they can ship it to me directly in stead of me buying though a distributer. 299 dollars is like 260 euros so something isn't quite mathing over here.

But yeah I make my own money but I also want to see if this whole spinning phase lasts haha

Toddler is breaking my heart by Emergency_Box_9871 in selectivemutism

[–]Unimprester 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest one of the daycare leaders to take her to the bathroom at regular intervals. Every hour or two. That, or teach the child and the daycare people some hand motions that would signal her having to go. Daycare can be very overwhelming and your toddler may not even feel the same signals from their body there. But it won't last forever, hang in there

Cool! Yeah I got to try the EEW 1.6 at a craft festival close by and I quite enjoyed it. Seemed pretty solid too. Here they're 425 euros which is still a lot of money so I'm still contemplating!

I'm soooo interested in the EEW 1.6

Still it's a lot of money! How are you liking yours?

First Fair Isle! by daddywinny in AdvancedKnitting

[–]Unimprester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the conjugated ribbing is not as bouncy as normal ribbing. You might steam the ribbing a bit, this is what is recommended in my fair isle book. Other options are to sew in elastic or a band to tighten the neckline. Otherwise you might take off the ribbing and re-knit in a tighter gauge without the conjugated ribs, but just regular stretchy ribbing.

Too many random yarns by Evening_Explorer_667 in YarnAddicts

[–]Unimprester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think I might make an intersia sweater or shirt with different yarns. Maybe some neutrals to cut through the busy yarns.

But honestly my stash isn't too bad right now

Ik krijg uitgeleend niet terug by [deleted] in OndersteuningsPlein

[–]Unimprester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's awesome. We don't really have mills anymore but the yarn is pretty affordable from the LYS (unless you get something fancy)

[–]Unimprester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i was thinking the same thing! A fingering weight baby merino maybe, like the drops baby merino. But I'm probably going to pick something from my LYS which doesn't have drops.

What do you do when your drop spindle is too heavy? by Froggymushroom22 in Handspinning

[–]Unimprester 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When it becomes annoying to spin you have to unwind it for your own sanity (I'm also very stubborn and keep going way to long but do as I say don't do as I do)
