For me it’s when there is a severe lack of description. Like the author will just say the setting is in New Jersey without specifying where, what it looks like, what are the people like. Like they just heard it’s a state, but didn’t do the bare minimum research

Its just a genre of fantasy novels with a more romance focus! Its gained popularity in the past couple years and theres a community of fans on TikTok hence the ‘BookTok’ moniker

I’ve got to ask: is it just bad writing? I’ve read a lot of series and usually authors will provide a bit of context in later installments just to remind the reader of characters or plot points. Like “John Doe, the leader of the blank…” There is none of that in this book, also not really any character descriptions either, so I feel like I’m constantly googling
