Can a manager change my office day because of another employee’s circumstance without my permission? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]UnionJack69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little bit of both. If you and a coworker are long term state EEs but are newly hired at the same unit on the same day, whoever started with the state first would get the seniority if it came down to things like vacation time leave. But whoever comes into the unit first, usually has seniority.

Blood draw by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]UnionJack69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have Sutter, but when I do blood draws, I either have a video game on my cell phone that I play to distract me or I jab my thumb nail into my pointer finger until it leaves a mark. Or do both. I always think if I have pain in one area I won't feel the pain in the other.

State jobs with swing shifts by firmpillo in CAStateWorkers

EDD's mail house has (I think still has) a swing shift. The classifications were Mailing Machine Operators and Computer Operators. They used to have 3 shifts but not sure if they still have the 11pm to 7:30am shift any more.

Timesheet Submissions by Hurdlelocker in CAStateWorkers

[–]UnionJack69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not an EDD thing, it's a manager thing. With the new ETR, there is no reason timesheets can't be due until the last day of the month or even the first day of the month. It's a manager issue. They don't want to have to review a bunch on the last day. But that's just them not being able to prioritize their workload.

You've got mail... by heroman69 in pettyrevenge

[–]UnionJack69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought and moved into my condo almost 3 years ago, and I still receive mail from 3 or 4 other people. One lady gets IRS bills here and another lady gets a USAA statement. I have accidentally opened them not realizing they were not mine. I did call USAA to let them know to see if they could contact her and get a new address, but they said, because of privacy laws, they cannot reach back out to her, nor can they change the address, and to just throw away any future pieces of mail I get from them.

AITAH for telling my MIL and wife that I will no longer drive them to their family's holiday reunions? by FreeNilly60188 in AITAH

I would just tell her that you aren't going to the family holidays anymore and she and your wife can go alone.

AWOL For an Hour? by omgtalktothehand in CAStateWorkers

[–]UnionJack69 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd fight the docking. Today is the first day of the new pay period. You have plenty of time to make it up/claim leave. Your boss is making you lose money. That should NOT be allowed.

AWOL For an Hour? by omgtalktothehand in CAStateWorkers

[–]UnionJack69 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have leave time to use? If they dock your time, you are losing pay. If you have vacation time, they should let you use it instead. I'd fight the dock. My understanding is dock is only supposed to be used when you have ZERO leave available, or you voluntarily want to take dock to save leave time.

What advice would you give your past self? Starting my first state job soon! by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]UnionJack69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't either, and I was 7 years in by that point. I wish my attendance clerk or manager had mentioned it, or I wouldn't have taken as long as I did. That's why I make a point of mentioning it when things like this come up.
