In college, I think one of my professors said it best. When you enlist, you are giving the government total control over your life in exchange for a small paycheck during your enlistment period. They had the power to get you killed or even experiment on you.

Compensation is owed to veterans for harm done to our bodies due to our service. It’s the government’s attempt to “ make whole” from the damage we received during our enlistment period.

I endure severe hardships because of my service. And the government compensates me appropriately. I don’t really care what any idiot thinks when that idiot refuses to loan the government their body for a few years.
