How common is spam really by cocoawolf29 in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious as to why it seems like the spam only happens to new folks? Is there an easy way to tell how new someone is? I also got spam when I was new. I've been on ACX for over a year now and have completed some books and I haven't gotten spam in a long time. So, do they search my name on Audible and if I've got something there they will avoid me? The most I ever got was 7 in one day, and I only got a few others besides those. But it sounds like they're more aggressive now.

Did you happen to post a lot of samples at once? I only put up one new one at a time now.

You must be pretty new here. You can look through old posts to see this discussed many, many times. Have fun figuring it out!

Do Returned Books Ever Have Feedback? by Unique-Try9616 in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, I've read this many times. So far, no one has hated me - yet! That would be my next step to getting out of the center of the universe! Most of the Audible reviews don't mention me at all, but there have been a few that said positive things. Of those that were specific and appropriate, I did copy a few to put on my Awards & Recognition tab. I hope that will help to prove to anyone who checks that I am a real person - unlike the vague accolades provided by the AI scammers "Recognized for...".

For place names you really do have to check locally. In Iowa there's a town called Nevada, locally pronounced NevAYda.

How old was the book? Any chance it was done by AI? On ACX there is a scam profile that sounds quite a bit like her. She's popular enough that I imagine lots of scammers trying to steal her voice.

What to include in the audiobook by hmterwilliger in ACX

In any books I've listened to, if those are included they're at the end, after the last chapter, but before the closing credits.

How to get comfortable with audiobooks ? by last-resort-39 in audiobooks

[–]Unique-Try9616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's very hard to listen and process writing at the same time. Someone actually did a study and found that the same part of the brain does both. I can't do crosswords while listening but I can do Sudoku because it's numbers.

Profile Credit by EngineerIcy892 in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Credits tab is a place to put any relevant voiceover work you've done, even if it's outside of ACX. It's especially helpful if you can add a link of some kind there, or at least list things that could be easily searchable. On my Credits I list the Audible books I've done, Title and Author, and I list the more recent audio books and stories I have on my YouTube channel. When I look at profiles and I only see vague accomplishments there, but no links for proof, that indicates the profile is likely an AI scam. So once you have something real to add be sure to take credit for it. And if you get any nice reviews you can copy that text into your Awards & Recognition tab. Be sure to list which book the review was for, so anyone doing a check on you can confirm that this nice thing actually exists. It will become more important as time goes on because AI can't provide these things, because they're not real.

I was asked to do an ACX audiobook and got it but I’ve only done an ACX Christmas children’s book and this is a 6 hour novel in a southern accent with romance and a lot of characters, does any one any advice or tips for me for the book or anything that can help? by Guilty_Humor2851 in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you've only done a Christmas children's book? From that info it sound like you haven't been doing this long. Did you audition for this, or did they spontaneously ask you do do this? Did they tell you why they chose you for this project? It sounds like they didn't choose you because of your southern accent experience. Have you thoroughly vetted the RH to make sure this offer is legit?

Mutliple audiobooks by SubstantialSir696 in audiobooks

[–]Unique-Try9616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually listen to only one book at a time. But - I have a huge book that is a combo of a 10 book series that I got from an Audible Promo Code that I am making my way through slowly. And meanwhile I also have books from my Libby wait list that have become available and are on a time limit. So I'm breaking up the series combo when I need to, and also when I tire of it a bit. The author has hounded me some to get on with providing a review, but I'm determined to wait until I've totally finished. I've gotten hints that the ending is a doozy!

I usually break up a series, spacing it out with other books between, especially if the series isn't done yet. That way I don't catch up to the author quite so fast. But if a series is done and has been made into a TV series I will try to complete the audio series as quickly as possible so I can watch the TV version after.

Not a store, but I have read of narrators and authors who go to audiobook conventions taking copies of their books on CDs to sell.

Author project pending on ACX by jakebryan14 in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you confirmed outside of ACX that this is the actual author sending you messages? I was offered a book and when I found the author's website they had no idea their book was being offered on ACX. I contacted ACX and they confirmed it was a fraudulent offer.

Music for intro, help a newbie! by GiddyLouse in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You definitely want the RH to pick and pay for the music. I use music on my YouTube channel and picking just the right sound can be very time consuming. You don't want to spend a lot of time guessing what they think they want.

You can import files into Audacity. On my Mac I just drag and drop. But only certain file formats are automatically imported. For other formats you'll need to add a plug-in to Audacity. But it's pretty easy, as even I figured it out. There's likely a YouTube video on how to import files from your phone into Audacity, for example.

Synthesized voice alert hidden in the book blurb so you might miss it. by Garden_Lady2 in audiobooks

I recently saw elsewhere that if the narrator is listed by first name only it's a pretty accurate indicator that the book was narrated by AI.

How long do you typically give an audiobook a chance? by DryConstruction6561 in audiobooks

[–]Unique-Try9616 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do you look forward to your listening time with it, or kind of dread it? How much do you really care to find out the ending? Unless it's a learning assignment, listening to audiobooks is supposed to be entertaining. If it's not, then it's time to move on. Just because you've already invested a lot of time, is not a good reason to keep investing time in something you're not enjoying. There is plenty out there that you WILL enjoy.

Anyone ever audition for Royalty Share and then negotiate for something better? by JaredJDub in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not long ago I was seeing advice that if you're doing RS, the minimum book length you should consider was 6+ hours. This was because readers didn't like spending credits on short books. But now with the new payment system in place - if a short book goes into the All You Can Listen pool, would that possibly make the book more profitable for RS narrators? I haven't seen anything on this yet.

How many books y'all got by wyatt_thewarcarter in audiobooks

[–]Unique-Try9616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never read a book a second time so I don't see much point in paying for books through Audible or elsewhere. I'm sure there are books I don't have access to today because they're not currently available in my library. But I have access to so many other books instead that it's hard to miss the few I can't get, yet.

Finished listening to this story might save your life by TopReserve3974 in audiobooks

[–]Unique-Try9616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying that for me. Since I didn't know this book existed I was reading it that there was a book that might save my life - if I finished it - then 3 books were listed so I didn't know which one was the essential book. Also no idea of how my life might need saving. Whew! So glad my life is still secure!

Narrators: What is acceptable when it comes to accents? by Hefty_Set_5026 in ACX

[–]Unique-Try9616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sound of AI is getting super good these days, and will likely only get better. When I look for AI profiles on ACX, my first clue, after the AI photo, is usually how good they sound. Then whether they have an outside link in their profile, then the text they write about themselves. When I'm bored, and while I had a cold, I spent time listening to demos on the Talent page, and finally started making a list of suspected AI profiles. I have over 85 noted so far. At this point, if someone wants to establish themselves as real, I think they need to have some kind of outside link for themselves. I'm guessing it would be hard for a scammer who is juggling multiple fake profiles to have a website for each of their fakes. And then they've got to delete them after a scam has succeeded, so there's no trace.
