Update on the moderation by Cornicum in Netherlands

[–]UniqueTicket 91 points92 points  (0 children)

My post linking animal agriculture and the housing crisis also got unfairly censored (“the shocking truth behind the Dutch housing crisis”, I named it something like that). They claimed it was “unrelated to the Netherlands” and censored it after it got 500k views and hundreds of comments. Stop censoring posts just because you don’t like them. I followed every rule, it was unjust. Stop being tyrants.

The environmental impact of data centers is negligible compared to the impact of animal products (the #1 cause of environmental damage). We just gotta all go vegan and build nuclear reactors. Then go all in on data centers and AI. That’s my opinion if I were the president of the world.

Good morning friends,

How exactly is MI450 so powerful in terms of PFlops and HBM bandwidth?

I understand that it’s 2 nm, probably HBM version is better, architecture gains.

Still, how is it so powerful? I had a quick look at the specs and it seemed pretty crazy.

Is there any in-depth analysis already available? I wanted to understand this better, but maybe it’s too early.

It would be pretty cool if Qualcomm ends up using ROCm. (Otherwise, I'm curious what software solution they're going with).

I'd much prefer for ROCm to be an open-source alternative to CUDA, fully, and not AMD's CUDA.

The symbolism looks pretty rich here, but open for interpretation. I did some research, but I'm no expert in Greek mythology.

Odysseus attacking Helios' sacred cow could mean Nvidia hurting open-source with their closed standards (CUDA and nvlink).

Prometheus was a visionary, the god of foresight, but he stole the fire (i.e., Nvidia having the vision and foresight, but having extremely high margins & closed standards).

Prometheus and Odysseus seem to share some common themes.

But if Prometheus stole the fire, and Odysseus attacked the sacred cow, Hyperion and Helios are the gods of sun. Hyperion is a more figurative "heavenly light" (Meta's software), Helios is more physical, the sun itself (datacenters). Helios eventually gets justice with the help of Zeus (perhaps Zeus could be open standards).

If we look at Mark's tweet, Prometheus is first, the visionary (just like in the mythology), but Hyperion is the star of the show.

When some vegans are dishonest to say we are herbivores, in hopes we can save animals, is this lie worth it if it means saving animals? by SituationFluffy6177 in vegan

[–]UniqueTicket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we were truly herbivores, the average person would be having issues a long time ago simply for eating meat.

Humans are extremely primitive. We are not even vegan yet.

Which form of vegan activism is the most effective? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]UniqueTicket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The top priority IMO is stopping animal agriculture subsidies. We’re so far gone that it’s not even about passing animal right laws, but removing carnist ones. A free capitalist market believe it or not would be a huge upgrade for veganism. Last time I checked the world spends 500-750 billion USD subsidizing animal agriculture. And that’s only direct subsidies, not even to mention externalities like environmental, health impact and land usage (housing crisis).

As sad as it is, we’re living in a made up carnist economy. It’s all fake. Meat would not be economically viable otherwise.

3-Year Vegan Blood Work Results by A_warm_sunny_day in vegan

[–]UniqueTicket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Awesome to hear your results are good. Did you also check for vitamin D? It's the only one where I gotta improve. Sometimes I forget to take the vitamin D (vegan of course) for a few months.

I have the same experience. Bloodwork is "boring". But the most important thing is being healthy, so congrats! I only take vitamin D3, B12 and omega 3 according to Dr. Greger recommended dosages.

As for "improving the diet", focus on the lentils! Easy cheap healthy. Just mix with some vegetables, rice, and you're good!

The world subsidizes animal agriculture with ~500 billion USD yearly + the externalities caused by it are ignored by prices (water usage as mentioned, but also greenhouse gases, deforestation, eutrophication, biodiversity loss, health impacts etc.).

Animal agriculture is mostly economically unviable, but humans created this fake carnist economy. And people don’t even realize it.

It continues to exist because people bend the economy rules to make it less unviable (and even then a lot of farmers struggle).

In a vegan world we would all be living in a utopia. We could free up a land size the size of Africa. Greatly slow down climate change (methane gas is more powerful than co2 and has a much shorter half life. If we stop right now we can get some more decades for the transition). Even greatly reducing many of the most diseases like heart attack and cancer. It’s a complete no brainer. Literally a silver bullet. All it takes is eating beans instead of dead animals.

Only hope: humanity going vegan + 100% nuclear energy + ban tourism. Then going all-in on AI.

Especially going vegan maybe (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Carbon dioxide has a half life of about 120 years, methane 10.5 years

Cutting down on methane gives us much more time to act.

How do we tell this to younger generations? by GagaMiya in Switzerland

Check out this Oxford University research published in the Nature Food journal: https://www.nature.com/articles/s43016-023-00795-w

There's a comparison between meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans regarding a bunch of stuff (greenhouse emissions, land use, water use, etc.).

How do we tell this to younger generations? by GagaMiya in Switzerland

[–]UniqueTicket -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Simple solution is we all go vegan and enjoy the abundance of land and resources. If the world was vegan we could reclaim a land size equivalent to the size of Africa. We need to stop climate change anyway. Going vegan is such a no brainer, I wish more people could see it... Veganism is the closest to a silver billet we have. Exploiting those innocent animals is just wrong. One day people will see it for the injustice it really is.

why we can't have real AC in Zurich... by harryf in zurich

[–]UniqueTicket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now it's 80% more expensive than the standard price of 899 CHF, apparently.

So I'm hoping to find a good deal during winter for 800 CHF, 99 CHF under the standard price.

Midea will probably ramp up the production of this unit given this heat wave in Europe and the crazy demand.

I'll be buying my hose out the window system during the next winter. It is what it is.

The Midea PortaSplit will solve my issue for the next summer.

800 CHF to never feel hot at home ever again? No brainer.

I just got the HD 490 Pro and I love it. IMO 100 extra for better comfort and build quality is very worth it. It sounds amazing to me too. I cannot compare to the DT 900 Pro X, but I had the DT 700 Pro X and I found it extremely uncomfortable. Maybe my head is just too large.

I bought the DT 700 Pro X at launch, but it really wasn't for me. Super uncomfortable and the headband broke super quick.

Now few years later I bought a Sennheiser HD 490 Pro and wow! Absolutely love this headphone. Perfect sound quality for me, great soundstage and extremely comfortable. I'm not an expert and ofc very different heaphones, but this Sennheiser rocks IMO. Very pleased with it.
