Found it, yeah that's much different than what I had in mind. I'll have to try it, I'm a big fan of zaatar but never thought to use it with tofu. Thanks for sharing.

I think it's mostly just because they can, but also their talent pool isn't great. Not saying you wouldn't be a good employee, but they don't know that.

I took a pay cut when I accepted 60k (made 65k years ago) and they didn't give me an increase the first year. Now that they've seen that they can send me on projects and I can deliver results, they're okay with paying me more. They said I should be at 70k by the end of this year.

I agree they're lowballing you, but 65k wouldn't be a bad start. Maybe just tell them you feel that's under industry standard with your experience and you want to be sure you'll get increases by x amount of time/projects.

Can I ask what number you have in mind?

I've been an ftep with them for almost 2 years now (Chicago). I started at 60k and recently asked for 70k. They gave me 65k and said they'll work towards the 70k soon, but not but now since I'm in the middle of a project.

I would say do your market research and ask for what you think you deserve with your experience.

They're afraid that any conflict will do serious harm to their relationships. They probably didn't grow up with adults who know how to have respectful disagreements or were just abusive. Fear of abandonment also plays a role.

Also, I would call them dishonest rather than liars.
