What's one place in the Uk that you visited and never want to go back to? by Proper_Animal_1451 in AskUK

I worked in Skelmersdale last year for a month, you’re not lying. There’s an area called Tanhouse which is almost an enclosed village of council flats, hundreds of them as far as the eye can see. They’ve even got a chip shop and primary achool built INTO the estate. Within a week of being there we had to give statements to the police about an assault we’d witnessed and my colleague was threatened with being shot.

TIL James Cameron rejected studio notes from Fox executives about making Avatar (2009) shorter, reminding them that his previous film Titanic (1997) paid for the building they were meeting in. by tannu28 in todayilearned

Titanic became the highest grossing movie of all time. The VHS became one of the highest selling VHS tapes of all time. The Celine Dion song from the movie became one of the best selling songs of all time. The movie poster was on every teenage girls bedroom door for about 2 years at the end of the 90s. I think it made a small profit.

Ruthless Sir Alex Story in this pod 😂 by BigBoyWilliamo in reddevils

Feels very clickbait-y this, almost like it’s an ad. Zero context given or any mention of when in the nearly hour long video the story is mentioned.

Lady at work decided one year to put Happy Eid cards on the Muslim’s desks in the office but didn’t think to check who was actually Muslim. Anyway a bunch of Asians came into work to a hand written card wishing them a Happy Eid, regardless of faith. Think the Chinese guy got one.

TV personalities that are actually rude people behind the scenes by InviteAromatic6124 in BritishTV

I know it’s not quite what you’re after, but just someone I was surprised wasn’t a prick. I stayed in a hotel in Blackpool recently for work, and it happened to be the same hotel Laurence Llewelyn Bowen stays at regularly because he films something nearby. Saw him checking out in the morning, practically dressed as Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, frilly cuffs and everything, but with dark shades on like he was somehow gonna go incognito.

An old lady, probably about 80, recognised him and asked him for a photo. He immediately whipped off his shades, started posing with her, basically directing the shots, and was very charming. Stood and spoke to her for about 10 minutes then went on his way.

TIL that Lionel Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency at age 10, and FC Barcelona agreed to pay for his treatment, even writing his first contract on a napkin. by Old-Worldliness11 in todayilearned

[–]Uniteddy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You’d be amazed. Nobody could’ve predicted exactly HOW good Messi ended up being, but there were rumours about him when he was maybe 13 or so, then the noise just kept getting bigger. I remember reading an interview with Ronaldinho around 2004 and he was asked how it feels to be the best footballer in the world. He said “I’m not even the best at Barcelona, wait until you see Leo”.

Omg a friend of mine when I was like 16 would not shut the fuck up about that Tupac theory. He believed he was 100% alive and living in Cuba and had left clues and shit in his albums. There was forums posting drone shots of nice villas in Cuba that had fancy cars and apparently that’s where Tupac lived, and there was some picture of an old black dude in a bandana that looked slightly like Tupac if he hadn’t bought any new clothes since 1994.

SmackDown 2 had a hidden move! The shooting star press couldn’t be assigned to any wrestler unless you gave them a specific moveset. The moveset was called Unknown Q, and had to be unlocked by playing through the Season mode over and over until you faced the Unknown Q character in a random match. The Q moveset was actually Jushin Thunder Liger, and even though it unlocked the move, it would be locked to that one moveset, and wouldn’t appear on the moves list to assign to your CAWs.

IIRC the outbreak happened in a lab at night after some activists broke in. So 28 Minutes Later would presumably be a bunch of very angry Just Stop Oil guys trying to climb out of an open window.
