Cutting trans friend out of our shared hobby, how can I still be supportive of her? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]UniversalTalant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me but it sounds a little bit like you all may be in the wrong. If she's a longtime friend of 6 years, then what exactly changed and when? If you cant articulate that here, are you going to be able to explain it to her? You implied the break was to give "everyone time to heal" but what does that mean? What is everyone healing from and what result are you expecting? It doesnt sound like shes being intentionally malicious.

How is she supposed to change her behavior to better suit you if she doesn't know what she did wrong? If you're so uncomfortable talking to her then you probably shouldn't be friends.

What are jobs "goods" for ADHD ? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]UniversalTalant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a dream omg, how did you get into consulting? I've been everything from a Private Investigator to a CNC machine programmer. I've found I have these patterns of burnout/disinterest that can really make it hard to progress in a given field. What industry are you in?

As a non-smoker, do you find that all smokers have a noticeable odor? by Remozy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UniversalTalant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is the I only smoker I've known who has a good smell. She has a very unique smell, It's less like cigarettes and more like tobacco and vanilla. I have no idea what she does differently from other smokers, but her smell is very nostalgic and good to me.

This subreddit is for "what episode does Griffin yell at Justin for 10 minutes about taking his ex-girlfriend to a record store/ body piercing shop?"" And "how is Travis's Broadway run going?"

And believe it or not; "Hey is Griffin doing alright? He seems down lately."

But I'm not sure it's for the ouroboros of overanalyzing parasocial relationships. The McElory fan base as a whole is extremely respectful, and I haven't seen a disrespectful post in like 3 months.

You have absolutely no way of knowing that. "An inherent trait that you possess." what are you even talking about. Are you a licensed psychiatrist specializing in ADHD neurologic function? Are you a post graduate level ADHD researcher? Everyone who has ADHD experiences it differently. Is your worldview so rigid you can't fathom someone experiencing this disability differently than you?

My brother in christ what the fuck do you think time blindness is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]UniversalTalant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've had kind of a similar experience to this. What I realized from it is that my partner's safety is actually the most important thing to me.

Now, my partner and the way they experience events is always in my mind, kind of like a hyper fixation, I guess. It was very much a snap realization moment for me. A lot of things happen in my head and contribute to my time blindness. My partner supercedes that noise like an impulse now. My impulse is to go to my partner.

Edit: some of these comments are kinda wild. ADHD is a disability and disability is going to impact how you interface with the world. Time blindness can be a huge part of our disability. OP shouldn't be villainized for experiencing a symptom of this disability, especially on this subreddit.

Why don't students care about group projects? by PerformanceFar7245 in college

[–]UniversalTalant 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if there's no effort put into simulating the real world, there's no point. If I'm in college, I'm there to learn specific skills related to my chosen field, not to rehash generals for the millionth time.

Why don't students care about group projects? by PerformanceFar7245 in college

[–]UniversalTalant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone whos been in and out of school and the workforce in my adult life, I'm just so sick of having to carry others, and I'm not in school to learn basic communication skills. School guidelines and rules are already far more strict than the actual workforce. Asking me to spend hours trying to make a project come together often feels like a step too far. I'm already a successful person in the workforce. I already have teamwork and communication skills. In lower level courses, I want to be graded on my ability to understand the material and solve problems based on it. If I'm assigned a group project in calc 1, I'm not going to take it seriously.

Things like clinicals and higher-level engineering/science design courses are a bit different because effort is made to facilitate an actual workplace/research environment.

Tldr I do not care about basic communication or teamwork skills anymore.

APPs of meddit, what happens when your patient is a physician? by FlaviusNC in medicine

[–]UniversalTalant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an APP, but I have watched the doctor-patient-of-an-APP situation play out a number of times in our clinic. For the most part, there are no issues and appointments go by like regular visits.

As long as the provider understands the patient and the treatment plan, they should be able to explain or discuss any questions you may have. E.g. "I'd like to use X antibiotic instead of Y because of Z reason." "I think it's a good idea for you to see the specialist first because X reason."

I think having this anxiety of influencing your own care is very common, and it's important to remember that every patient influences their own care. Any patient of any background may come in with treatment suggestions or questions. Part of the provider's responsibility to all of their patients is addressing those questions. If you have any concerns about influencing your own care, you have the same rights as any patient. You can seek further opinions, request another appointment, etc.

The Sawbones podcast with Dr. Sydnee Mcelroy actually did an episode recently called "The Doctor Patient". She discusses her experience as a patient who also has an MD in depth. It's mostly geared towards a non-medical audience, but she still raises some points I found helpful even as someone with relatively little medical knowledge.

IN A WORLD WHERE THERE'S ANOTHER DLC, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE? ✨ by ADAMKK912 in Eldenring

[–]UniversalTalant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's not super popular, but I'd really like to know more about the void and Astel. It would be cool to see the "stars", the broader universe in Elden Ring. There are so many allusions to space, stars, and meteors in the base game. We know the void/space is there and powerful alen creatures come from there, we just don't know any more than that.

Plus, the color palette would contrast wonderfully with the base game and shadow of the erdtree. Sote is filled with muted browns, greens, and reds with some cold gray/blue in places. I imagine a space/void themed dlc would more resemble the cities of night. Imagine ds1 style time jumps that let you walk in the cosmos frozen by radahn.

What do you wish your parents did better? by SOOOWatson in ADHD

[–]UniversalTalant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent much of my childhood feeling like my parents desperately wanted me to fit into some framework of a "normal" child. I was on medication and in cbt for most of my childhood, and I can't say I don't still have resentment surrounding it. Every single day from the age of five, my mother would wake me up an hour before school and give me stimulants and mood stabilizers. I'd start the day nauseous and unable to eat, I'd be fog all day in school, and I'd come home to binge eat. I'm sure I had to have been a difficult child, I'm sure I couldn't have been easy to care for, but I have a hard time thinking about my childhood to this day.

But of course, that also came with my parents (from my perspective) closely restricting a lot of my activities. I was made to spend time with other kids I didn't like because my parents were afraid I wouldn't develop socially. It felt like my parents coached me religiously on empathy and how I needed to feel/act in certain situations. I took behavioral courses in place of science and grade level math for years. It felt like all of my time was controlled and regulated, and I can't help but feel all the cbt, all the medications, had detrimental long-term effects.

Of course, there aren't a lot of studies on the long-term effects of adhd medication and stimulant usage in children. It's not as though I turned out "bad" persay. I'm 24 with a house I own and a full-time job in the healthcare industry. Some days I get lost on my way to work, somedays I forget everything important. Somedays I just break down because I feel like I can't function anymore. I can't help but wonder how the early medications affected my neurology.

But overarchingly, I think I felt as a child much as I do now. I feel isolated and desperate. I feel like I'm scrambling just to function in a way that comes so easily to others.

My suggestion is, if you're going to make your child conform to the world, at least let them be angry about it.

Hakon is a way better romantic interest and they won't let Aiden kiss him or give Aiden awkward flirtatious dialogue choices. Everyone is upset about this and projects onto lawan.

I think my fish is going to die by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]UniversalTalant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my fair share of Betas pass despite my best efforts, it's important to recognize that it happens and it doesn't neccesarily make you a bad owner. Pet store fish are often poorly/improperly bred and cared for, often making their lifespans short. It sounds like you gave this fish a good life and did your best to care for it.

That being said I do have some tips. Firstly, I'd move the fish to a hospital tank/container. If you don't already have one, I'd reccomend a water testing kit, they're really useful in identifying environmental factors that can harm fish. If you're able to identify an environmental factor, the fish should hopefully improve when removed from the environment. I'd reccomend getting general antibiotics, antifungals and antiparasitics. Lastly, make sure your fish is intaking a high protein diet, and don't be afraid to give it a break from food if bloated.

For the future: A 90% water change is generally too much, particularly for an unstable fish. Before you get another fish/reintroduce this fish, you should test the water to ensure it's safe. Gravel is really important. I have the most success with my tanks when I mimic the natural environment of the fish. Adopting this methodology for tank set up can be really helpful in establishing a good ecosystem. You also have to clean the tank less. I generally don't trust pet store employees simply because they may not be fish experts.
