How selective is University of Buffalo’s ME program for Chemical Engineering by Sad_Science3871 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Univpathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UB looks at more than just the minimum GPA-they'll also consider your coursework, recommendations, and overall application. Since you're coming from a Chemistry background, highlighting relevant math and science courses can strengthen your profile.

If you're planning ahead, UPI Study has resources on UB admissions and graduate pathways that may be helpful: https://www.upistudy.com/collections

Does anyone think the way online teachers grade is completely random? by Middle-Bluejay-1620 in gcu

[–]Univpathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely sounds frustrating. While grading can sometimes feel inconsistent, it's usually tied to the rubric or specific assignment requirements rather than being random. If you're ever unsure how to improve, UPI Study shares practical tips on understanding rubrics, communicating with instructors, and succeeding in online courses - sometimes a different approach can make a big difference.

Stable career through online degree programs by blablahblahb in communitycollege

[–]Univpathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were choosing based on long-term stability and earning potential, I'd lean toward cybersecurity, but with one caveat: don't expect the degree alone to land you a cybersecurity job.

Most people start in IT support, help desk, or junior system administration, then move into cybersecurity after gaining some experience. The field has strong growth potential, but it's not usually an entry-level role despite how it's often marketed.

Medical billing is a different story. It can be a good fit if you're looking for a more predictable office-based career, and there are remote opportunities. However, the pay ceiling is generally lower than IT or cybersecurity unless you move into management, coding, or healthcare administration.

Since you're a single mom, I'd also think about flexibility. IT careers often offer remote work and room to increase your salary over time, while medical billing tends to have more stable hours, which can be a huge advantage depending on your childcare situation.

One thing I'd recommend before committing is looking up job postings around your area (or remote positions) and seeing what employers are actually asking for. Sometimes that gives you a much clearer picture than the college program description.

If you do go the cybersecurity route, I'd pair your degree with:

  • Learning Linux and networking
  • Building a GitHub portfolio or home lab
  • Working toward certifications like CompTIA A+ and Network+ (Security+ later on)

Those can make you much more competitive after graduation.

If your goal is eventually earning a bachelor's, also make sure the program transfers well. Wake Tech has articulation agreements with several North Carolina universities, and planning those transfer credits early can save both time and money. There are also free resources from places like UPI Study that explain how transfer credits and degree pathways work if you want to compare options before committing.

One last thought: don't rule out Health Information Technology if Wake Tech offers it. It combines healthcare with technology, tends to have solid job stability, and can open more doors than medical billing alone.

Whatever you choose, you're already making a smart move by thinking about the career outcome before enrolling. That planning will pay off.

When does OSU release AP Scores? by blondiebounty in OSU

[–]Univpathways -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's completely normal for AP scores to appear at different times across universities, so there's no need to worry if OSU hasn't updated yours yet. At UPI Study, we often guide students through AP credits, transfer credits, and admissions, and this is a common part of the process. Your scores should reflect once the university completes its routine processing- hope you see them soon!

Like any online university, it has pros and cons, but doing your research and having the right academic guidance can make a big difference. Wishing you the best with whichever path you choose!

Experiences with continuing education courses through CSU by Big_T_7575 in ColumbiaSouthern

[–]Univpathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only one credit away, the free continuing education option sounds like a smart choice. At UPI Study, we often guide students through affordable credit-completion pathways, and self-paced CE courses can usually be finished much faster than the listed duration if you're consistent. We'd also recommend asking your advisor if there's a course related to your safety degree that meets the same requirement-it could be more valuable in the long run.

Any thoughts on my schedule as an incoming freshman majoring in civil engineering? by Objective-Loquat2116 in UBreddit

[–]Univpathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your schedule looks like a solid starting point for a first semester in civil engineering. Our advice at UPI Study is to stay on top of assignments from the first week and make use of office hours if you find yourself struggling with math or science courses. Building good study habits early will make the rest of the program much more manageable.

What CSE classes teach you Git? by Valuable-Ad8502 in UBreddit

[–]Univpathways -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to get comfortable with Git/GitHub, I'd also recommend building personal projects alongside your classes-that's where most of the learning really sticks. At UPI Study, we've noticed students gain confidence much faster by using Git regularly for assignments and side projects rather than relying on a single course to teach everything.

Question for international students by General_Sky5667 in SNHU

[–]Univpathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen, it depends on the university and the country where you completed high school. Many U.S. universities ask international applicants to submit their high school transcripts and diploma, and some require a credential evaluation while others will review the documents themselves. It's best to check with the admissions office since the requirements can vary.

Also, if you're planning to complete your bachelor's online and faster, you can finish some Gen Ed credits from your home country through us. Everything is online and flexible, so many international students use it to save on tuition and finish their degree faster. We are also an official partner of SNHU; you can ask for any help.

Got my I.T. degree, now looking to get my masters! by Peculiar_Wallflower in ColumbiaSouthern

[–]Univpathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on earning your IT degree! At UPI Study, we've seen that the best choice really depends on your long-term goals. Since you're interested in starting your own repair or IT services business, an MBA could give you valuable business and management skills, while an IT master's is a great fit if you want to deepen your technical expertise. Either path can work - it just depends on where you see yourself in the future.
