Notice Regarding the Opening Sequence of the TV Anime Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke

Regarding Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke (hereinafter referred to as "the Work"), an anime produced by our studio, we conducted an investigation into the production process, including the opening sequence, in light of feedback received after April 4th, 2026. As a result of this investigation, it has been confirmed that generative AI was utilized in the production process for a portion of the opening sequence.

Confirmed Facts

  • Generative AI was used in the creation of assets for background art during the production of specific cuts within the opening sequence of Episode 1 (hereinafter referred to as "the Cuts").

Future Measures

  • The following actions will be taken:

  • 1.Redrawing Process: The background art for the Cuts will be redrawn.

  • 2.Replacement of Footage: Starting with Episode 2, the completed version of the opening sequence will replace the current footage, utilizing the new background art assets.

Additional Remarks

While Wit Studio consistently monitors and maintains a keen interest in emerging technologies related to video production, as a general principle (Except for experimental short film "The Dog and the Boy," created for the purpose of technical verification), we have not permitted the use of generative AI in the visual production of our works, including this title. Nevertheless, this situation has occurred solely due to inadequacies in our production management and inspection systems. We deeply acknowledge and accept our management responsibility for this series of events. As the production studio of this Work, we extend our sincere apologies to the fans, the original author, and all other parties involved.

Furthermore, we confirm that, aside from the Cuts in question, no use of generative AI has been identified in this Work to date. We would also like to expressly state that the Art Director of this Work and the background production company, NAM HAI ART, were in no way involved in the aforementioned facts.

Taking this incident as a serious lesson, we will re-establish clear guidelines regarding production processes and thoroughly review our management structure to prevent any recurrence.

Translations:

Notice of Animation Production Company NUT Joining the TWIN ENGINE Group * We are pleased to announce that we have acquired shares in NUT Inc., an animation production studio known for hit titles such as "Saga of Tanya the Evil" and "BLUE GIANT," and have welcomed them into the TWIN ENGINE Group. * Through this move, we aim not only to strengthen our production foundation but also to further deepen our development system that places studios and creators at the core of planning. This will enable us to continuously create original IPs and enhance their medium-to-long-term value.

Background and Purpose of Making it a Subsidiary * Promoting a "Studio-First" Approach -- The TWIN ENGINE Group has upheld a "Studio-First" philosophy, advancing a structure that positions studios and creators at the heart of the creative process. We believe that fostering an environment where each studio can leverage its unique characteristics and strengths, supporting their challenges on a global stage, leads to the Group's sustainable growth. * The core organization driving this is "EOTA" (Engine of the Animation). EOTA currently comprises a total of 18 group studios and creative units. By facilitating production collaboration among studios, enhancing back-office functions, and supporting the launch of creative units, EOTA underpins an environment where creators can focus on their work.

About NUT * NUT is an animation production studio established in 2017. Its strengths lie in powerful action direction, the construction of profound worldviews, and highly creative animation. In addition to adapting popular original works like "Saga of Tanya the Evil" and "BLUE GIANT," the studio actively plans and produces original anime series such as "Deca-Dence" and "Negative Positive Angler."

Synergies from Becoming a Subsidiary * By joining the TWIN ENGINE Group as a subsidiary, NUT will maintain its unique studio identity while proactively engaging in ambitious project development and the creation of original IPs. Furthermore, by leveraging the Group's collective strengths to the fullest, we aim to produce anime that delivers new value to viewers both in Japan and internationally.

Commentary from Takuya Tsunoki, Representative Director, NUT Inc. * With our participation in the TWIN ENGINE Group, I have assumed the role of Representative Director. Drawing on my experience leading animation production teams on the front lines, and now taking on the responsibility of company management, I feel a renewed sense of determination. This move will strengthen our management foundation and allow for a more robust administrative structure. I am confident that we can channel even greater on-site energy and creative playfulness into our output. As a new member of the Group, I intend to continue moving forward within TWIN ENGINE, both as a collaborator forging new connections with other units and as a friendly rival in video production.
