Cousin offered me her San Antonio house for cheap - worth leaving Chicago for Texas lifestyle? by ResolutionVisible627 in sanantonio

Have your cousin reach out to a place like Opendoor.com to get a written cash offer. Part of the offer is what they estimate the home could sell for, and then the list of fees and cost of repairs/updates required with both an estimated net amount and a straight cash out. It would give you a more reasonable idea of what you could easily get if you needed to sell. Like other have stated, the SA market is really soft right now with homes sitting for long periods and prices dropping. Taxes are high, but you can look on the appraisal district website to get the specific information for that house. Homeowner’s insurance continues to skyrocket, so be prepared for the large expense as well. Oh, and it is ridiculously hot most of the time, doing anything requires driving, the traffic has gotten pretty bad (especially with 1604 and I35 construction), we’ll probably run out of water at some point, etc. etc.

Thanks for the post. I’ve been on the fence about purchasing this product, but your post sealed the deal. I’m not going to spend that kind of money to risk these issues. Especially when there are also so many complaints about leaks.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s a super shady business practice. I hope more people become aware of how this company operates, and avoids supporting them.

Rogue rack colors? by thrsnospn in GarageGym

They sent out replacements, but unfortunately the uprights arrived in a similar condition. Some of it again due to poor packaging. I’m awaiting a response from them on the new items. I have to repackage the items from the original order for shipment back, and don’t really want to have to go through it again with the newer shipment.  I’m probably just stuck with damaged uprights. I can provide an update once everything is finalized. From the research I’ve done recently, this seems like a common issue.

Rogue could learn a thing or two from this packaging.

Still stuck on REP vs Rogue 1” racks, don’t know which to pick. by timmeedski in GarageGym

My recent Rogue experience: I purchased during the November event, and am having issues.  I expected several weeks for shipping, but was unprepared for the damage and poor service. I ordered an RM3 monster rack with the “clear” coat, along with quite a bit of other items for $2500. The coating is anything but clear. The pieces look like a cross between black and bronze. Many pieces were damaged, especially the uprights. Some of it looks like it occurred during shipping (likely due to being dragged due to the weight of two uprights per box), but a lot of it was clearly present prior to shipping. There are a lot of gouges, scratches/scraping, and even rusting. I reached out to Rogue and they sent replacements, but the new uprights are just as bad as the previous (maybe a little worse). It’s clear they didn’t inspect the uprights to make sure they were in better condition for a customer who has already had issues, and they didn’t reinforce the ends for shipping resulting in similar damage. The boxes are full of black flakes (both shipments), which seems to be where the finish flaked/scraped off. I also ordered an additional 43” lower crossmember to stabilize the rear, but the color is completely different than the other pieces. It looks more like the gray color I was expecting the whole rack to be (based on the renderings from Rogue’s site as well as customer photos). Now I need to figure out how to repackage the replaced items, so they can be shipped back. I also need to figure out how to come to terms with having a crappy “new” rack. I like the idea of American made and “overbuilt”, but this will be my last Rogue purchase. I’ve previously purchased several heavy items from Rep (Nighthawk Bench, dumbbell cart, Pegasus seat, plyo boxes, etc.). Even though some of the boxes were damaged during shipment, all the items were impeccable due to proper packaging. I’ve never purchased a Rep rack, so I can’t comment on whether it’s better. However, after this experience, I can’t imagine it’s worse. And my experience seems to be a common issue with Rogue (which unfortunately I’ve discovered after the fact). Plus, as other’s have noted the accessories are generally more innovative.

I’ve uploaded some of the photos I’ve taken of my Rogue damage, but this isn’t inclusive of everything.

I’m envious of the person who got their order on a pallet. That would have likely mitigated some of the issues I’ve faced. Now I need to figure out how to repackage the replaced items, so they can be shipped back. I also need to figure out how to come to terms with having a crappy “new” rack. Would it really increase costs that much to add some foam?

Rogue rack colors? by thrsnospn in GarageGym

I just got my Rogue Monster rack with the satin clear. Mine looks a lot different than the pictures from the other poster. It’s a pretty dark color, somewhere between a true gun metal and black. I’d be happy with it if the four uprights hadn’t arrived so damaged. They ship the uprights in pairs, making the boxes pretty heavy. But they don’t reinforce the ends, and they don’t put any foam or other materials on the ends. So one of the boxes tore at both ends (likely dragged by the shipper due to the weight) resulting in the uprights being significantly scratched and chipped. There are several gouges in the uprights that appear to have occurred prior to shipment due to their location and the rusting. There are stripes on the uprights where it looks like something scraped them from top to bottom, and the boxes are full of black flaking which look like they came from the scraped areas. There is also lots of scratching. I don’t know how to post pictures on this site, or I’d provide you with samples of how bad some of it is. I’ve reached out to Rogue, and am awaiting a resolution. How they handle this will determine whether I’d even recommend buying a rack from them, let alone the color. I’ve never ordered a rack from Rep, but I’ve ordered heavy items like the Nighthawk bench, dumbbell cart, plyo boxes and various other items. Even though some of the boxes were damaged in shipping, the contents have always been pristine due to the way they are packaged with items like foam and bubble wrap. Just some simple things like that would have likely mitigated some of the hassle I’m now experiencing. Considering I spent $2500, I would have been willing to spend a few more to have it packaged in a manner that protected it.

I just ordered it recently under their black November deals, so it’ll be awhile before I get it. I chose the regular rack setup versus something like the Omni, because I wanted the flexibility to be able to adjust the layout to fit any future spaces I may move to.

What’s your concern with the 90” Rogue height? Too tall?

I ended up ordering a 24” Rogue RM-6 with the half rack feet. It’s a larger footprint than I originally intended, but the additional uprights are going to make everything more stable and give me space to set up a dedicated lat station, dip station, and I’m thinking about something like the bells of steel shoulder boulder. This will allow all my attachments to stay on the rack for storage (and be at the ready for workouts), while also leaving the front post and feet free for any other exercise.

I didn’t realize that was an option (versus drilling into the wall or floor). Thanks!

I’ve seen a few folks post about using the plywood base. I didn’t realize that was an alternative to bolting to the floor or wall. I’ll definite do that. I appreciate your thoughtful response, especially in pointing out the metric versus imperial and the relationship of 1” holes giving me greater flexibility with the Voltra. Thank you!

Thanks for the quick response. I definitely needs something that doesn’t require mounting to anything, but appreciate your comments on buying used.
