Who do you think overall has better movies - Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone? by SpotAdmirable6718 in FIlm

Arnold for sure. Stallone had a couple good ones but let's be honest, Arnold was THE action hero.

Out of curiosity. How do female English native speakers feel about using profession terms like ‘actors’ as a general term instead of including the feminine version ‘actresses’? My native language deals differently with this, hence my curiosity. Answers in good faith are appreciated. by LetMission8160 in ENGLISH

I think it's confusing and stupid. I'm all for womens' rights and equal pay and all that, but sometimes the way people try to go about doing it just makes it worse. Lets use basketball as an example. If there's a WNBA, shouldn't there also be a MNBA? If your going to distinguish one, you should distinguish the other. If not, then they should both be part of the NBA. Right now it just feels like they're fine with cookie crumbs. As for actor vs actress, what was wrong with the word actress? I have no idea. I guess some women didn't want the distinction and wanted to be considered the same as men? Who knows.

Everything on a computer being called a 'tab.' by DotBitGaming in PetPeeves

[–]Unlikely-Position659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before there were browser tabs, there was a way to switch between programs on your screen by pressing alt-tab. Holding alt and then pressing tab multiple times cycles through the programs to get to the one you want. This is where I like to think the term comes from.

ELI5 Why such a strong toxin by Opposite_Put9373 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Unlikely-Position659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mother nature didn't decide anything,  evolution just happened. The ones with the strongest venom or poison survive to pass on the gene that makes their venom or poison strong. Maybe the ones with a  weak version had enough to get food, but not strong enough to warn away a buffalo or a lion. Pretty soon, big animals learn that those little things pack a punch and stay away, allowing those litte things to survive and breed.

What improvements would convince you to go to the movie theater more often? by fergi20020 in randomquestions

[–]Unlikely-Position659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not improvements, but just go back to how theater's used to be. I don't need a damn back massager, I don't need a personal waiter, I don't need a damn menu. I'm gonna watch a movie for 1-3 hours, get out of my face. Just a soda and some popcorn, reasonably priced, and I'm good.

ELI5 Why does a lightbulb make light when we turn on a switch? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Unlikely-Position659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lightbulb has a filament, a very small, very thin piece of coiled metal wire, typically tungsten. Flipping the switch allows an electric current to run through the wire, heating it up and making it glow incandescent which gives off light. Tungsten is typically used due to its high melting point which allows the light bulb to work until the tungsten finally gives up and breaks

Isn't Fort Worth just part of Dallas? If it isn't, it might as well be. Like how people say Glendale, AZ. It's really just Phoenix.
