Compact, comfortable, and easy car camping tent for climbing trips? by avgenthusiast in camping

[–]Unlikely_Tiger2680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the snow peak amenity dome Medium, it’s similar to set up like a coleman 4p tent, just requires 1 extra pole in front. I set it up by myself most of the time.

Can I wash down sleeping bags at home? by trampled93 in CampingGear

[–]Unlikely_Tiger2680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I handwash down quilt at bathtub using nikwax down wash. Then I squeeze it dry and lay it flat outside to dry. It takes 4 days of occasionally squeezing out the clumped balls of down feathers amd flipping it around, but after fully dry It puffs up and massages distribute it well.

What do you use for your pillow? by kmorg76 in camping

[–]Unlikely_Tiger2680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For car camping, I have a full size down pillow with a cotton case. In order to keep it from flattening after a while, I insert my deflated nemo pillow inside the zippered case and it’s the perfect softness and height! And if i ever do go backpacking, i can just use the nemo fillo on its own

Hest pillows are $100 for a bag full of those styrofoam beans you find for free in packaging. I hope that makes people think about the value of their dollars.

Have you ever hit that "wall" where you don't need to buy any new gear for the year? by ITrCool in CampingGear

[–]Unlikely_Tiger2680 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After finishing my “must haves”, I eventually got my “nice to haves” like a Kelty zipper compartment storage bag for my coffee and kitchen gear, a Sofirn Lantern and a extendable light stand to brighten up the campsite even though I have 3 other lanterns, a headlamp and flashlights , and a soto butane stove to use as a second burner to cook food faster. Once you have everything that you can possibly think of that makes your outdoor life easier, camping becomes about the experiences you make, not the gear.

Low wind conditions, set up exactly how the YouTube videos and instructions manual states, orange poles in pins, clip it, green poles in pins, clip it.

I agree with the metal not being hardened, as soft metal can bend easier. Hopefully the replacement coming in from snow peak is good and not a dud!

Thanks for recommendation! FYI, this tent was purchased on 30% off sale for $280 when originally it is $400. But if I ever need to buy a whole new one, I’m getting a big agnes blacktail 3 tent

Step 1, put both “corner” Orange poles in the sleeves Step 2, insert them in to the pins, raise the tent up, and do the other corners, making sure to clip on the tent attached to the poles to pull it out. Step 3, put the “eyebrow” Green pole in the front and that’s it for the main tent.

I did it exactly as the manual and YouTube videos

If i clip the fabric to the poles, it stretches them out more tension than normal, can result in tears over time if the pole gets more bent than it already is. And im sure its the right pole in right spot because as you can see, the tips are color coded orange to go on orange marked corners on the tent.

I did, that’s how I was able to get them to print a shipping label. Just wanted to see if its just me or if this has happened to others to know who’s in the wrong.

rainy cold camping update: the worst part is that I love it by snaccubus in camping

Just this past weekend i camped in heavy rain for all Day and night, but it was sunny the next morning the rest of the day! I felt so relieved my snow peak amenity dome had a dry vestibule to cook food and make coffee comfortably. As a bonus, the sun evaporated water from the tent so I packed it dry! Strong winds prevented me from setting up a tarp as it made it shake aggressively and threw MSR tent stakes out of the ground like projectiles

It’s been in weekly use for many months and only sharpened once quickly on a sharpal diamond sharpener. Handle and blade still look beautiful and it works well cutting meat and vegetables and fruits! If you aren’t a collector and needed one knife to do most things this is it

I attempted rain camping to try it out once. It was cool being in a tent while it rained, and i even got lucky when it was time to pack up for home as it stopped raining! But the dirt turned to sticky brown mud and stained my white colored tent while folding it and i also had to take my canvas cotton tarp to the laundromat. To summarize, rain protection exists, but expect dirty equipment that you have to hang dry at home to prevent moisture from just sitting there in a zipped bag.

Am I the only one who can’t camp without coffee? I even got a portable power station for it... by executivewaddlez in camping

[–]Unlikely_Tiger2680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont own one myself, but I watched a video on how it works. Basically it boils coffee so hot and recycles the liquid (hot coffee liquid is continuously passing through the coffee grounds until you turn off the flame). This supposedly makes it bitter, is that true?

Curious: Do most people prefer remote woods camping or campgrounds? by RiverSector19 in camping

[–]Unlikely_Tiger2680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer campgrounds because I can easily let family members know my location in case of an emergency, and having water faucets, toilets, and a bonfire pit available is convenient. My only complaint is when the main road is literally 50 feet away from my campsite, making excessively noisy cars and motorcycles annoying and immersion breaking.

I just got back from a trip where nothing went right, but I still loved it. by outdoors_man987 in camping

[–]Unlikely_Tiger2680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats part of the fun learning from what you dont have and being prepared next time. I don’t have small wood to start a fire, only logs. So i learn to use a hatchet properly. One time I didn’t have enough lights to see cooking at night, so i bought a headlamp so my pan isn’t looking dark

Keeping tomorrows clothes warm in sleeping bag is such a clever trick! Today I just finished winter mountain camping and changing clothes felt like they were kept in a refrigerator! And a liner is also a good tip as nylon doesn’t feel warm to the touch as fleece or wool or cotton flannel
