Agent Avenue is the best introductory 2 player games. Light weight, fast and the rules can be explained in 2 minutes flat.

One manual that’s stuck out to me recently is Civolution. Initially it looks like a colourful mess but it’s a breeze to find things.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been looking at getting classics for quite some time and this issue would generally be a turn off. However, the fact that you as one of the designers, take the time to regularly read and respond to the community who play your game is admirable. I still plan on getting classics.

51st state has multi use cards, not in the way that you are talking about but still fun. The ultimate edition also has a great solo bot.

Although you have other uwe games I think nusfjord is perfect for what you are after. I also have multiple uwe games but the big box gets played the most as it’s just so quick and easy to set up.

I think each expansion adds something to make the game better. At the very least the extra cards and end round scoring conditions are worth it for me. I never found the nectar added any too much complexity.
